Shaftesbury 12 string electric

My shaftesbury 12 string electric, has the look of a ricky,!!!! but it has aplate on the back clearly saying is was made in Japan as opposed to the general idea that they were made in Italy - does anyone know when the manufacture was changed?
The guitar is still brilliant and I would think made in the early 70s, would download a photo but do not know how?
