    Roger Hudson

Does anyone know where i can get a replacement hi lo or wilson (preferably wilson as it matches the year of my Rapier) tremelo and bridge. The tremolo is not a part that I seem to be able to find a replacement for as its structure is unique to these guitars and I so want to retain its original spec if I can.

    Thanks

Still looking for one? I’ve got a LA Pro II in red in terrific condition for sale here in Belgium. Great guitar but I keep picking up my Berlin Pro so it doesn’t get played as much as a guitar like this should… Drop me a line if you’re interested – slashedzero at hotmail dot com

All the Watkins guitars were cheap when new, however i’ve found them to be pretty good guitars on the whole, if a little quiet.

The common colours on Rapiers were red and black, there’s also a candy-blue one.

I think that basically, the more pickups, the more the value, ie a Rapier 44 is worth more than a Rapier 22. And though i say "worth more", i don’t mean millions! A top-notch orignal Rapier 44 is worth £150 tops. A good, serviceable Rapier 22 or 33 has got to be worth upwards of £100 easy…

Incidentally, if anyone has a Rapier for sale, i’m interested as i sold my one a few years back when i was unemployed, and i miss it!

: I have a black watkins 33 with the toaster syle pickups in it and am wondering whether this is very rare or not.

Do you have a picture of this Guitar. My dad was in a band in the 60’s and when I leared the guitar I decided to take this one apart and never managed to get it back together. I think he would be very interested in buying this.

If you could posibly send a picture.

: A friend of mine is trying to find out how much a 1963/1964 watkins rapier 44 with 4 pick ups would be worth these days?! i know nothing about guitars but i think its supposed to be in good condition. If anyone has any clue that would be great!

I recently bought a Rapier 44 in fairly good condition for a guitar of this age, the pastic coat finish tends to crack slightly although this adds to the character and doesn’t affect performance. Anyway, I paid about £130 whic I think is a great deal, wouldn’t pay more than £200, $400, for a top quality one even though they’re fantastic!

I also have one, they were a rare version of the Rapier 44. Manufactured by Watkins, there is a website describing them and their history. Mine is number 0178 pre 1964 we think

        Mike Nightingale

Hi, I also have a Circuit 4 that I have owned since approximately 1971. Mine is white s.no, 5249 I bought it second hand from my then biology teacher for £15. Apparently the list price when new was 47gns (£49.35). I love this guitar and have bought and sold many other guitars over the years but would have to be offered a lot to part with this one! The action is second to none and the range of tones is useful too. Apart from the serial number there is no identifying logo or name on my Circuit 4 and it’s taken 35 years to find out what it is!

I still play the above guitar, purchased in the early 60s,it differs only (as far as I can see) from the Rapier 44 in that it has a bank of 3 push button switches. Was this model earlier or later than the Rapier 44. I have never seen any reference to the circuit 4 anywhere.

      Dear Mike,

It might be late in the day, but "Yes" I do know a guy from whom you can get a bridge for a Rapier. Well, at least I hope so, as I am currently buying one from him, but I don’t think it is the last – he has most parts.

I am contemplating on selling my Eggle as I have now moved on to the bass. I know if I do I will regret it, so let me know if you’re interested. It is the Berlin Pro V with Gold hardware, Natural wood binding, Green going into black. The sale price is 1,000 and I’m in England. EXC condition with low model number

: does anyone no where i can find any secondhand berlins? I am in England and I would very much prefer to buy second-hand. The company’s new website address is http://www.patrickeggleguitars.com

I have seen them for auction on e-bay, albeit they are on the continent, but recently one went for about £300 or so.

I think that PE went out of business. Best place to look for a 2nd hand Berlin is Adtrader or Loot – expect to pay £400-600 depending on spec

        Phil Mugleston

Have just been looking on their website, listing all the models. Great guitars, I have a Berlin and LA Classic. Wouldn’t swap them for anything.
Look in "Guitarist" mag. They often have 2nd-hand ones.

    2. Re: watkins guitars
      Phil

: i have a "62" Rapier 44 which has had the body repainted, it cost 30 pounds sterling five years ago and although I’ve seen similar models (though in better condition) for advertised at up o 350 pounds sterling I think you will find that the true value is around 1 – 200 pounds.

basically they are not really sought after except by people trying to re-kindle their youth, or by others who just like oddball guitars.

I also have a Wtkins Rapier, though only with two pick-ups. It is left handed and bought second hand in the mid sixties. It has the body re-varnished, but otherwise is in original condition. Is the value likely to be any different to that already stated?
