: I have a Hikari H500 that I bought from the C. Bruno and Sons sales rep about 33 years ago. Yours and mine are the only ones I know of. It’s been many years, but my recollection is that they were built as prototypes and were never put into production because they couldn’t get enough orders from music stores. Hikari built prototypes for Takamine. Mine is a 19th century style guitar. Can you tell me a little about yours?

:I have a WG 81. I bought it 17 or 18 years ago from a guy at a yard sale for 25 bucks. He had bought it about 13 or 14 years before that for his wife when they were in Hawaii. She didn’t play it so he took off the strings and put in the box in a closet until I found it. I have recently replaced the tuners and bridge, etc. Mine has a very powerful tone to it and I am having a hard time finding anything that will replicate its sound. Not the highest quality guitar I have ever had, but it is the only guitar I still have from when I was a kid. All my other stuff is new. Good to see that someone else has one.

I saw your posts and had to comment. I bought my Hikari H100 in 1972 when I was a classical guitar major in college. At the time, my instructor seemed quite impressed with it’s quality, and he was a class-A guitar snob! Mine is still in beautiful condition and has very rich tone. I have no recollection what I paid for it or what it’s worth. I plan to take it to the International Guitar Show in Texas next year (I missed this years show) to see if anyone knows anything about them.

I have a Hakari model HF-250 classical. It is also marked C. Bruno & Sons. It is the lightest, loudest, clearest and most interesting classical guitar I own. It appears to be a cedar top, but the sides and back are a solid wood that almost perfectly matches the sides, so I’m assuming that they are also cedar. Ebony fretboard, and Golpeadores that appear to be installed under the finish. I think I paid $400 for this guitar, and have never had a second thought. I think it would have been worth twice that amount, and probably 3 times the amount. It is one that I will keep forever, no doubt. When you pick it up, you immediately realize it is something very special.

        1. Hikari Guitar
          Anonymous

I purchased a Hikari guitar in Hawaii in around 1975. I don’t recall the model number, but it had a 3 piece back similar to a Martin D-36 except the middle piece was some very light wood – almost looked like balsa. The outer pieces looked like Brazilian rosewood, however, I am sure it was a veneer because the inside of the guitar did not reflect that it was a 3 piece back, but rather a 2 piece because the brace ran down the middle. I purchased the guitar on the navy base who stocked those guitars regularly. I think I paid around $130 for it. I also purchased one for a friend that was nicer – replicated a D-45 with the nice abalone inlays. The only other place I have seen Hikari guitars for sale was in Hawaii at about the same time in the equivalent of the local WalMart. I have never seen one since. I gave mine away to a friend whose son wanted to learn to play and have never seen it or another Hikari guitar since. Mine was beautiful, however, I am pretty sure it was veneer. It had an extremely thin neck and was a fine first guitar.

        2. Hakari H 150
          Terry

I bought a Hikari H150, (has96#. Apart from the H150) also shows C Bruno & Son,Inc since 1834. I bought it in 1969 in Santa Barbara, CA It came highly recommended by the music store, but I can’t remember the name. I played it for about four years and then after having children didn’t have time for it so it’s been in its case ever since.
It’s interesting to know that there are not many out there that I know of.
It’s an absolutely beautiful classical guitar and very well-made and is in excellent condition.
I’m just wondering what it might be worth today?
I believe I paid $350 for it back then if my memory serves me right.
If you have any information I would appreciate knowing it thanks

          Terry

I bought my Hikari H150 in Santa Barbara too at a music store, which I can’t remember the name either. I bought it in 1974 for $350.
It would be interesting to know how much they are worth. My story sounds familiar to yours. Mine is in excellent condition and still in it’s box.

      Steve Murdoch

received the following message from FSC music ([email protected]):
      Hello Steve….

Well yes you have come to the right place… We are the importer of Phil Pro products. However, they had reduced manufacture for a period of time, and we still have a good stock to sell on.

As for the MSD91 CE I never imported this model, nor have seen one, so I am a bit lost. Can you send a photo? Phil Pro have/had thier own factories in China and Korea.

Now I am responsible for them again, BUT also the HADLER range of guitars, mostly to shops. Phil Music don’t have a web site now.

Let me have that photo if you can. What I will say. The Phil Products have been good quality and fit in the market place as entry to mid level items I hope this helps,
      Best regards,

      Phil Hadler.

I have a 4-string dating from the mid 90’s. Has a good tone, P/J pickups, fender style neck with a rosewood fingerboard and plays quite nicely. It’s a lower end instrument, probably around the same quality as a Squier but cheaper. Mine has an all red body and does not have a pick guard so I don’t know what the body is made of. I paid $70 for it and got a bargain.

    Chris Gert van Rooyen

Hi Paulo & Miceala and family
Hope you all keeping well.Chris from Kimberley joint me Gert in Bloemfontein ,we still producing 300 and 500watt slave amps that runs reliable compared to major brands.
Me "Gert" am busy to design a slave amp, light in weight,Amcron type,
delivering easaly 2000 to 4000 watts rms,no mains transformer needed.
Now we need a company to produce audio output transformers of a band
with 30 Hz to 10 kHz at 2000 watts rms. Output tappings shall be 0v, 10 ohm , 2 ohm , 4 ohm , 8 ohm , 16 ohm , 100v line. Class B push pull type. All other technical details will forwarded as soon as there is conformation from a company that can produce this type of transformer. This transformer must also be wound such that no electical leakage might occur between primary and secondary due to safty regulations. We can see that it is not profitable to produce pa mixers here so please send us information on a complete front 4,6,8 channel mixers. No amps or transformers.

    Regards to all you people

Wow! I bought a used 12-string Hikari for $20.00 when I was stationed in Hawaii in 1978. Sold it for $40.00 and bought a new Takamini acoustic/electric for $300.00, with hard case. I had no idea the two guitars were related.

The Hikari acoustic was the prototype put out and when they went production they changed the name to Takamini. Nice guitar.

I purchased a Hikari Classical, which looks a lot like it’s a Takamine C132S. I’d sure like to know. It was made in Japan, has a solid Cedar Top, and has Rosewood sides and back, which could also be solid, but hard to tell.
