I have a 6-string acoustic classical guitar made by Lys in Canada. It also has Kamarouska on a label. I bought this guitar in the early 1980s. I would like a value on it. I know I paid close to $600 for it. It is in excellent condition.
: I have been able to find very little information about my 12 string guitar.
: It is made in Canada. The name of the guitar is Lys built 1980 model # L20-12 serial # 1098. I can find no other marking on the guitar. Did however find the info below.
: If you have any information on this guitar please e mail. I am excited to know.
: thanks melinda

: Manufactured by Unisonic (operated by Claude Boucher and Robert Godin) in the 1980’s. There’s not too many of these guitars out there that I’ve seen. From what I understand, the Lys line was replaced by Seagull guitars. So the name may have died off, but the guitars live on. Unisonic also made Kamouraska guitars.
Ive once owned an lys 12 string. dont remember the serial number. I paid 20 bucks for it because some one didnt know what they had. the neck was sepperating from the body and the repair cost was more than i could afford ($1500) i gave it to a friend tovfix as long as i could see him play it.
i also have the same guitar, what type of wood is used in it?

I also have a Lys 12 strings guitar, it’s a L2 – 12 strings, and the serial # is 10114, I suppose it’s a 1980, but I’m not really shure about this, I bought this guitar, in perfect shape 7 years ago, from my uncle, and he still regrets this guitar. He haven’t found another 12 strings with such a great sound. The look of this guitar his really humble, but it’s a pleasure to play and to hear it.

Wow. I also have a LYS L2-12 Sring. But the funny thing is that mine is #10115, the very next one made after yours. Crazy huh? I wish there was a place that we could figure out the exact year that these were made. As a Seagull enthusiast I find it quite interesting.
I have a friend which his guitar is a Lys L20-12 serial #1076. So they are sisters. I’ve been trying to find some information about it. But you’re the closest and most liable thing I found so far 🙂
If you still exist somewhere and have more info plz send some over 🙂

I have a Lys L-10 12 string that I bought over 20 yrs ago. Excellent guitars and quite rare these days. Godin made them and the company died after the factory burned down sometime in the early 80’s. They re-established in La Patrie Quebec where they make the Seagull, Art and Lutherie, Simon and Patrick and Godin electric guitars.
The Lys guitars were solid wood, finely handcrafted guitars that are (in my humble opinion) at least as good as the Martins. Hang on to yours… its a classic.

I have the LYS 12 string L2-12 serial 9855 in my possession. I want to sell it because the Lady that gave it to me has passed away and I need money to buy a grave marker for her. If interested then e-mail me.
The pull on the 12 string was such that the delicate handmade construction on mine , couldn’t take it, which lead to neck separation from body. I had it repaired professionally and months later, it started to separate again.
I simply turned it into a six string, lowered the bridge and no more problems since then. Lovely sound and resonance.
I’m holding onto mine.
I have an “Orpheus” acoustic guitar with a red label also, No. A480. If you find out anything, please let me know. I bought it many years ago but can’t recall where. I’ve been wondering if it might be a Mexican copy. It does seem to be very well made, though. Thanks.
