I'd need pics to be certain, but it's almost definately a Japanese copy from around the very late 60's/early 70's.
Like I said, I'd need some pics, but the desription (no of California) and the serial number point to it being Japanese.
It is most probably a copy of a Mosrite Combo from your description, which wasn't made by Mosrite until 1965.
