Interesting...My father got a brand new Val Dez classical guitar for a birthday present back in the mid- late- 70's. It always had a great sound. I learned to play on it myself long ago and I've had it in my possession for quite some time now. It still looks great. Over the years, I've brought it in for maintenance a few times -- broken tuning peg for one. Anyway, each time it's gone in, I've always gotten praises from the pros at the shops. This baby has unusally great tone. The only Val Dez I've ever seen or known is this one that's in my family. Apparently, it was one of those entry-level guitars with hit or miss workmanship. Made in Finland and imported by Espana Music Company in New York, NY during the 70s. Not many of them out there and even fewer in great condition. Frankly, not worth much money. But, hey, if you happen to have one where the workmanship was "right on" and the body sings when it resonates, then it's definitely a keeper. Considering my collection of better, upscale guitars...my retro, el-cheapo, Val Dez will forever hold an endearing place in the line-up...it's a beauty.
