: Hi My name is Kenny B.
: I have a question about a rather old, Wonderful Martin guitar that I have come across. It’s a Martin acoustic 6 string from, I believe about 1949 or 1950. The model number is 0-15 137738. I’m researching this for a very good friend of mine who was diagnosed with fatal cancer (Mesothemolia) 6 months ago.
: He was wondering if it had any value as an investment. You see, he has many medical bills and his situation is terminal. He is in hospice now which tells you the level of his condition. His medical bills are mounting and he had hopes that this may have some significant value. He has had this beautiful work of art since his parents bought it for him when he was 8 years old. He is now 68. He doesn’t want to leave his wife with a large score of medical bills when he passes and this is why I was asked to research the value of this guitar that Tommy holds so precious to his heart. I truly wish he could play this guitar or any other for many years to come, but to many, many, many friends and family members, this will not be the case.
: I understand that this may be a slightly out of the ordinary request, but do you have any idea of the value of this wonderful guitar?
      : Most sincerely,
      : Kenny B.
      :

Hello Kenny, I’m sorry to hear about your friend.
Is the guitar a 1949 Martin D-28 Guitar? because I saw a listing for one for about $18,000.
I’ve posted a couple of links below so you can see what it looks like.
Remember the condition of the instrument, the demand, and the limited amount that are available can effect what the price will be.
My word of advice is to "NOT" sell it to a retail music store, I’ve seen them rip off desperate people that don’t know any better, all they get is pennies on the dollar.
Be careful of selling it in the paper too because I’ve heard of robberies, it may be best to find a well known reputable collector with a large pocket book, maybe research it carefully on the internet.
Some people like to buy and sell on Ebay, I’ve heard both bad and good stories but can’t tell you from experience because I’ve never tried it myself.
In conclusion don’t settle for less, try to find the true value, there’s vintage guitar magazines, collectors website sources and books you can probably look up prices in.
Try to get several quotes from different people, remember…if someone is offering you a low price and telling you that you should take the money because you’re not going to get a better deal somewhere else, then they are probably trying to rip you off.

      Hope this helps, good luck.

Do you still have this Les Paul? Can you send me a pic of it? My husband had one and loved it. We lost every thing in a house fire and are trying desperatly to replace that guitar…IF it is the one we are looking for we may want to buy it….thanks!

: Does anybody have any idea what a 1990 Les Paul Standard with a birdseye maple top is worth? Thanks.
I have a 1993 Gibson Les Paul studio custom shop (birds eye maple) w/ebony fret board and gold hardware. It is in good shape. I paid $1000.00, in 2003, came with a 2-50 yamaha amp. Previous owner paid $350.00 for the amp. I guess I paid $650.00 for the guitar. The guitar was too heavy for the previous owner. Most rockers can’t jump around with a 10 lb. guitar. Sorry about no help with the value, but I think I paid below market value. These seem to be rare guitars but only worth what someone is willing to pay.

: Does anybody have any idea what a 1990 Les Paul Standard with a birdseye maple top is worth? Thanks.

Why do you ask? I have a couple of Standards with Birds Eye maple. Its a 3 piece top. Some purists think it has less value than a 2 piece top but what the heck. They sound good and look good. Roy Buchanan in one of the CD covers has a 3 piece top LP.

  11. Value of handmade 1948 Hansel Acoustic???
    Matt A

I have inherited a 1948 Hansel acoustic guitar. It is in excellent shape and has supreme sound quality. If anyone has an idea of what a ballpark figure on this would be it would be greatly appreciated. I think that my musician cousin that tuned it up for me said that it was a archtop. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have a hand-made Hansel too. Does yours have a label inside saying "Hand made by Arthur Hansel" with a space for the date and serial number? I have 1954 and serial 207.

I played a Hansel for 7 years and my ex still owns it. He is planning his estate and is trying to find out what it is worth. It is immaculate and has a powerful sound though is a small guitar. The action is a little hight but thats not a problem to fix. He bought it from Arthur Hansel himself in the 50s. The lable inside is as you say but filled in #203 in 1949. Please e-mail if you have any info on a market for these guitars They are definitely rare.

My Hansel also has a label inside saying "Hand made by Arthur Hansel" with a space for the date and serial number? It was built in 1948 and the serial # is also 207. This is very interesting. I have a crack up the middle of the top but repaired it. The top is solid spruce with solid mahogany back & sides. I would like to know the value because this is a family heirloom. If any one has any more information on this instrument, it would be greatly apprecated.

Dear Ron, I am on the hunt for some info on the Hansel Guitar as well as my dear friend of 40 years is planning his estate and wants to know some history of Arthur Hansel’s guitar making activities. When I use to play this same guitar of my friend’s from 1967 thur 73 my friend use to mention a couple of well known international artists who had commissioned a guitar from Hansel but I can’t remember the names and neither can my friend. The guitar in question is a 1949 sunburst flattop with the label as you discribe it. with 1949 on it. Any info you might have on values, total number of guitars this maker produced, ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated. THank you. E-mail me at [email protected]
as a postscript. The guitar I’m talking about was bought by my friend from Mr. Hansel himself. The information I have is that Mr. Hansel worked alone and his instruments were made entirely by himself.

Yes the label is there but in the one I am refering to it has #203 made in 1949. My friend is looking for any information about Arthur Hansel and trying to find an estimate value for his guitar. It is immaculate and has been played professionally for all but 15 of the years he has had it. He’s 75 years old now and wants to have a value on it for his estate planning. Anything you can find out about the maker or other guitars he may have made would be wonderful. E-mail address is

      Hi Mike,

I just noticed you´re entry, which is not exactly recent, so I don´t know if you are still looking for the value of a Gibson RD Custom. I own a similar model, although mine is from September 1977. Based on what I have seen at auctions over the last year or two, I would say € 1,400 is a fair estimate.

      Best regards,

      Jan Raeven

I have a 1968 LP Jumbo. I have checked with W.Carter at Gibson, the 68’s were with an Orange oval inside. They shipped about 3 dozen from the factory. The wiring is about the same as the the "Recording". It’s a low imp. guitar. The switch is phase (in&out). the knobs are bass/treble/decade/vol the truss on mine says Custom

I’m glad that you still have your Gibson Les Paul Jumbo, Justin. Mine is still with me and has been in it’s case since the early 80’s. I have several other guitars and really have never played it that much. The action is high for my taste. My renewed interest in it though has prompted me to begin the slow process of relieving the neck some. I’ll see how it works out in the next couple of weeks. After the action is lower and if I still am not crazy about it I may try to find it a new home.

I have one (Gibson Les Paul Jumbo acoustic electric), it’s a 1969 or ’70 by the serial number (with Brazilian rosewood back and sides. It has a repaired crack on the lower body and normal laquer checking but other than that it is very nice and completely original with original yellow lined HSC.

      Brando

YO rita, the bullets were only made in the early 80s, i think 1981- 1982. they were made of old fender parts, maybe thats why u think it "feels" old. Usually the necks are from around the 60s or so. They are actually quite rare, although "collectors" do not like or want them, yet… i’m gonna go but one right now actually…

      1. Re: Old? Fender Bullet value
        Brau

I have one also. Exactly as described. It was produced in 1982. I absolutely LOVE this guitar. It has a very distinct sound with it’s single wound pickups and the wide spacing between them. Plays much like a Telecaster due to the neck. Few people know what it is. I like that about it. And it’s NOT a cheap Squier!!
Six years ago a guitar shop said it was worth about $375-ish with the original hardcase and owners manual.

OOPPS.Paid $600.00 Australian for mine last year. What a bargain. Love it!! Very different from other fenders. maybe because it is made
from other fender parts. I like to call it a FENDER MUTT1

          Jim

HOLY COW! These Bullets are worth something? I got mine in ’81. It started out white but has since yellowed. I was going to repaint it and give to my daughter. Should I rethink that?
I also still have the original hardcase and owners manual.

guess what? i also have a fender bullet, but mine s not a delux, i bought it new in the UK in 1983 for £130.it is a candy red tele shaped one with 2 white single coil pickups on a white pickguard, it has the tele neck and on the headstock has a star logo with a number 1 in it. I also have the original fender case and manual and also a poster that came with it which shows other models such as the H-2 (fitted with humbuckers)
As far as value goes i have seen a couple on the internet and they seem to be around £300-£400
If any one else has one i would be interested to hear from you as i also think these guitars are pretty rare.

I just recently got into USA Fender Bullet collecting. I’ve purchased three in the past few weeks. I’ve been studying different models for a few weeks. Everyone seem to be asking about selling prices. A Bullet in ok condition w/o a case goes for less than $300 USD. A great condition bullet with manual and OHSC goes for as much as $500 USD. That’s what I have found to be the case lately. Over seas they seem to be selling for much more. There are a few resources for Bullet info available online. Just do a google search. I hope this helps.

      Rita

Hi, I hope you can help me… I was given a guitar recently by a distant family member. It is a Fender Bullet Deluxe. It does not look like a Squire Bullet at all. It has more of a Jaguar/Mustang body, blonde in color w/ white pickguard and 2 single coil pickups. It has a telecaster style headstock and it appears to be "vintage". It does not look or feel like anything built in the last 30 years. It also has V shaped strap buttons. Im a Gibson girl and do not know my fenders all that well. If any body knows this guitar please let me know, thank you sooo much! Rita

Your cousin will be able to answer this better than anyone Tom. But siffice it to say the ’62 Strat was a beautifully constructed instrument and sounds better the older it gets.
Here in the UK instruments like this go for thousands of pounds Sterling so long as they haven’t been messed around.

By body style- do you mean sort of chunky and squarish with a clear top and knurled knobs for adjusting string height and a thick, bolted-on neck with what looks like alabaster inlay? If so, I have one too and would also like to know the value. I have heard Airline is the house brand of Montgomery Ward- I paid $125.00 for mine. It also has that twangy quality.

I have heard the value of these guitars is subjective. They are not "old" therefore some players/collectors are not as enamored with them as say a fifties strat or tele. The question is if you had $15, $20, $25K what would you buy? A fifties strat in good shape or a "93 HD strat that is rare? Maybe the value of these will acrete in time due to rarity, better economic times, and of course the absolute stunning look of the guitar. Also as Harley Davidsons continue to jump (like a 59 burst), perhaps these guitars will follow suit to some degree.

      Hey guys,

For guitar serial #44921, it was made in 1964. And for guitar #100068, it was made in late 1965. Since these guitars aren’t vintage Strats or Les Pauls, their values are probably under $500. Hope this helps!

I have a fender guitar from 2000 and it’s acoustic, I was wondering how much I should sell it for? If you could just e-mail me back i’d appreciate it!!!
