I also have one of these guitars. Bought it in Brisbane from the CBS shop at West End for around $280 (Aust Dollars) in 1974/5. I am currently trying to find out value also. I note on the Fender info page that it is claimed that the top is made from cedar, though to me it looks like spruce. The tone and resonance of the instrument is magnificent – maybe this is due to the age of the wood also. Perhaps the only way to find out what these instruments are worth is to go to auction?

While job-seeking the summer of 1973, I ended my wearisome day by recharging at the local music store, which had about 30 classical guitars of all sorts hanging at eye level with a padded stool near to hand. I was in amateur guitarist heaven! Played a little on this one, then that one. No one approached me or reproached me, so I decided to conduct a private best sounding guitar competition. Several guitars were great sounding to my ears, so I upped the choice to include appearance, as if I had an unlimited budget with no restrictions. I don’t recall the runners-up, but to this day I recall that a Fender FC-40, ebony fretboard, distinctive head shaping, overall tonal quality (bass response, treble clarity, mid-range tone) was my particular choice! I’m considerable older now, with diminishing ability and needs, but if I EVER come across one of these locally in decent shape, I will try my best not to wag my tail too hard while negotiating a mutually agreeable price!
