A complete online textbook with photo articles on maintenance and repair of acoustic fretted instruments.

I'm Frank Ford, a full time guitar repairer and restorer since 1969. I think
you'll find my web site, FRETS.COM to be a special resource. If you're a
musician, there are lots of articles on maintenance and setup of acoustic
instruments. If you're a luthier, FRETS.COM will give you many hours of
technical viewing. As of 11/17/99 FRETS.COM comprises 650 pages with more
than 3000 photos of instruments, repair and maintenance. FRETS.COM is the
web site I always wanted to visit but couldn't find, so I created it myself.
I have personally photographed, written and maintained everything on this
site since I started it in 1998. Please e-mail me with suggestions or
questions. Cheers, Frank

Mandolin Bridge

I have a 1983 Alvarez F style, in need of a new bridge. Should I use a standard bridge with thumbwheels, or go to a Brekke bridge? Also, could I install this myself, using a jewlers file for the string slots?
