Re: LP Special HB SL

What up Duane. Yeah man, I just bought one from MF and I have to say that I am very satisfied. This little beauty has all of the standard “good” hardware that you will find on the more expensive models and it plays like a Les Paul should. Not to mention that it’s also quite nice to look at. The only difference I see in this axe and it's bigger brothers is A: it is cosmetically striped down, and B: it is a flat top and thus much lighter than your standard Les Paul. Other than that bro, I gotta say that this is a quality LP for a good price. And really, who needs to spend three or four grand on an axe just for a nice paint job and all kinds of fancy trim. That or for a phucking endorsement, give me a break! Gibson can blow me in this respect, phucking robbery if you ask me. No thanks, my five C-note costing, bare ass, smooth playing LP Special suites me just fine thanks. My advice, if you like Les Paul’s and your like me. That is, can't justify the cost of a couple of thousand dollars for a guitar, buy the LP special. I think you will find as I have that it is well worth the money, and that it is indeed the genuine article. Good luck brutha, hope it works out for you, whatever you decide to buy, out.

Les Paul Pickups

Hi, I have bought a Epi Les Paul Standard 2000 model.
It have alnico Pickups design by Gibson, in the clean mod songs beutiful,
but when I put the distortion mode the pickups don't rich high gain using a Marshall JCM600.
I want to change these pickups for one with more gain, but I want to retain
the vintage aspect and the tonality.
If anyone know which is the best pickup for that I appreciate the answer.

Thanks

Eric

Re: Les Paul Pickups

get the L500 for the bridge and L498 for the neck, they have the highest output.

Re: Need a LP custom

: Need a les Paul custom UNDER $2000 new...

check out www.guitartrader.com, they quoted me $2095 for a gibson les paul custom(no sales tax, and free shipping). i would probably opt for spending more on the shipping, next day and $5000 worth of insurance, to assure better handling. a friend of mine that works with ups recommended that, saying that items insured for $5000 or more are kept separate and taken better care of. i plan on buying a lp standard in february with the tax refund! good luck, and enjoy.

I am looking for a classic plus or a classic premium plus in Honeyburst finish.

LES PAUL ARTIST, GOOD DEAL FOR 1500?

I recently stumbled upon an Artist model that's not moving at a music shop. Anyone know about these? 3 switches, active electronics, I think it's an '82. It's played, but that leaves the condition in good/very good shape. $1500 seems like a pretty good deal. They had no amp so I couldn't plug in to see the various tones...any comments? thanks

hey man, no offense but if you don't snatch that guitar up while you got the chance, you're an idiot. i've been playing one for 21 years and is the best i've ever played. play it first and insist on listening to it through an amp just to make sure that everthing works. if i could find another one id good shape i wouldn't hesitate to pay 1500 bucks for it.
please take a look at the link i posted below. www.lespaulforum.com/slubarticle/ artist/artist12.02.html

Pickguard for early 1970s Les Paul Deluxe

Hi there -
If anyone has or knows where I can buy a cream colored pickguard (vintage or repro) for my 1971 goldtop Deluxe, please let me know.
Thank you!
Chris

Which Epi?

I'm not sure whether to buy the Epiphone Slash Les Paul, the Stanard or the Goldtop. I need to play November Rain, but i've read some reviews of the Slash LP, and apparently the toggle switch is crap and it isn't good for very heavy metal ,only straightforward rock. I prefer the red colour of the Slash one, but the Snake spoils it. Is the standard available in the same colour?
HEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

Re: Which Epi?

Well, if it's the '56 gold top (the only goldtop Epi still produces), it has P-90 pick ups, which are better for blues than metal. I would suggest the Standard with the Alnico II humbuckers and a Digitech Metal Master pedal.

Re: Which Epi?

all of the epi les pauls are pretty much the same guitar with different cosmetics. epi makes some great guitars and some real peices of crap. its all hit and miss. go to a store and check them all out. buy the one that seems to have the best fit and finish, some important things to watch are the fretwork and the nut. as for a heavy metal sound, 99% of its in your amp. you may be better off with a new amp, not a guitar. if you want slash's sound check out marshall's tube amps. slash uses seymour duncan alnico II pickups in his live and studio les pauls and they are fairly low output pickups.

Not true. Different models have different woods, pickups etc and the cheapest ones are bolt ons.

Re: Which Epi?

I got a Epiphone Les Paul standard and the toggle swich is crap also and i think you can get the standard red.

Re: Which Epi?

I also have a epiphone les paul standard, and the toggle switch is also crap

Standard vs. Deluxe???????????? HELP!!!!!

I don't know the order of models (quality wise) in the Les Paul series. I'm trying to decide between a Deluxe and a Standard, but I'm not sure which should be the higher quality. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Standard vs. Deluxe???????????? HELP!!!!!

SORRY ABOUT THE GHOST MESSAGE...DELUXES AND STANDARDS , IVE OWNED BOTH AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER WERE CONSTRUCTED EXACTLY THE SAME BY YEAR TO YEAR SPECS...WHILE THE DELUX HAS A BRITER TONE,,,ITS NOT THAT MUCH BRITER THAN A STANDARD,CUSTOM OR CLASSIC.YOU CAN MAKE UP THE TONE AT THE AMP.I WOULD ADVISE THAT RESALE VALUE MEANS EVERYTHING, AND I WOULD TAKE THE STANDARD OUT OF THE TWO. ALOT OF CURRENT RECORDING ARTIST CLAIM IN GUITAR MAGS. THAT THERES A BIG DIFFERENCE IN TONE WITH THEIR BELOVED DELUXES,,,THEN YOU ALSO READ THAT THEY SEND IT THROUGH ALL KINDS OF EFFECTS WHICH RENDERS THE POINT MOOT.HOPE I HAVE HELPED IN SOME WAY

Standard vs. Deluxe??? ...which do I choose?

I'm not to sure what the order of models is for the Les Paul series. I'm looking at a LP Deluxe and an
LP Standard and Gibson doesn't really tell you which is a higher quality guitar on the website. So if
anyone can help, it'd be appreciated! Thanks!

I own both a 73 les paul goldtop deluxe and a les paul standard '82 and I will tell you that the pickups on deluxes suck for rock music.Gibson did some stupid things in the 70's and one of them was putting epiphones left over mini humbucking pickups in these guitars . this guitar is one of the best les pauls I have ever picked up,playing-wise,best in the world, but the pickups had no power, luckily I found some old PAF's to install in it; but I had to rout the cavity which some people say ruins the guitar.I dont care . but if you want to play rock, get the standard. I suppose the neutered sound of the mini humbuckers would be fine for jazz or maybe country but large humbuckers can be turned down... and one day you might want to open it up ,so do yourself a favor and get the right one to start with.the standard is also more collectible.

Re: Standard vs. Deluxe??? ...which do I choose?

One man's opinion, the quality of the Standard and Deluxe are both topnotch. The real difference, apart from the tops is in the pickups.. The Deluxe has the mini-humbuckers, and they do sound sweet, but are a bit brighter than the big humbuckers for some people's taste. I have older models of both the Standard and the Deluxe, and I cannot part with either. They have their own character. So , go play them both, then decide.

Les Paul Studio

A friend offered me his Gibson Les paul studio in very good condition, both looks and sound for $500. It was made sometime in the 80's, and I need to know whether it's a good buy. Thanks

Re: Les Paul Studio

Daniel,

500 for a les paul studio in great shape is a fair price. U can check EBAY for actual prices people are selling for. U can figure out exact date of guitar by using serial number. I have heard several studios, and I feel that the 80's studios are better than recent guitars. IMHO. Good Luck

Re: Les Paul Studio

: Daniel,

Daniel, I have ust bought a Les Paul Studio today for $1200.00. If it's in good condition i believe it's a good deal but if it's in bad shape or have been abused watch out!
Good Luck!

Help me

okay I was just windering when les pauls were discontinued in the 60's
'cause there is a guy selling a '65 LP junior for $500 and I just remembered that
they were discontinued sometime due to legal difficulties. The fellow selling the guitar
also said that the serial number was removed. so I am dubious

Re: Help me

Don't do it. It sounds too shady. There's always 'another' LP out there.

tone of various les pauls

I am shopping for an electric guitar, I don't know a whole lot about Les Pauls, but it seems that everyone who is someone in rock has one. I was wondering if there is a difference in tone between the standard, custom, deluxe, pro deluxe, and even the epiphone. Also, is there a huge difference in the tone between older models and new ones. I heard somewhere that the quality is going down in the new ones. Any additional advice you could give to an inexperienced LP shopper would be extremely appreciated. Please email me at baerstev@martin.luther.edu Thanks!!!!

les paul

I have a Les Paul TV model guitar. Someone once told me it was made in 1959. I am trying to find out how you know for sure. I have the serial number. Also, trying to find out approximate value. How does the value increase in respect you age of guitar etc. Thank you for any help.

Re: les paul

Check Gibson's website. In "Exchange" section, under "Service & Support," you'll find Vintage Info that has the serial numbers for dating your git. Good luck.
