I need help before I buy this guitar for my boyfriend

My boyfriend's birthday is around the corner and he's been drooling over a '68 black Les Paul in the window of an antique store for the last couple of days. It comes with a case for $375 but I'm not even sure if it works. I've seen people in looking at it a lot but it's still there which makes me think it doesn't, or it's just not worth the money. I want to snatch it up and get it for him if it's a good deal. Can some one tell me what to look to decide whether or not to get it for him? I need to move on this within the next couple of days, so please help me!
