Heard a great blues song on the radio – no info given ‘n no playlist. Main bit of chorus is ‘you better Stop, hurtin me’. It’s a slow electric blues with great guitar. Can anyone help with lyrics/artist? In hope. Teri
The artist is Lonnie Mack. The song is called Stop and it’s on his CD Attack of the Killer V (Live), my favorite version at over 9 minutes. It’s also on his CD Strike Like Lightning, recorded with Stevie Ray Vaughan, and on Alligator Records’ 30th Anniversary Collection.

This popular thread has been given its own page : Re: lyrics (The Death of J.B. Lenoir Lyrics)
Here’s what I think are some corrections (I’m also a big fan, but I am a native English speaker):
A car has killed a friend in Chicago, ‘thousand mile’s away
When I read the news, night came early in my day
JB Lenoir is dead and it’s hit me like a hammer blow
I cry in my heart that the world can hear my man no more
JB Lenoir had to struggle, playin’ unappreciated blues in vain
Now the blues has lost a king and I’ve lost a friend that died in pain
Does anyone know the chords?

What a fantastic song this is. Really touched me – Keeps J B Lenoir alive.
The Lyrics to this song, clearly a heartfelt tribute to one of John Mayall’s influences, goes like this:
A car just killed a friend in Chicago a thousand miles away
A car just killed a friend in Chicago a thousand miles away
When I read the news, night came early in my day
J.B. Lenoir is dead and it’s hit me like a hammer blow
J.B. Lenoir is dead and it’s hit me like a hammer blow
I cry inside my heart that the world can hear my man no more
J.B. had a struggle playin’ unappreciated blues in vain
J.B. had a struggle playin’ unappreciated blues in vain
Now the Blues has lost a king and I’ve lost a friend who died in vain
Great song… thanks for lyrics
— "a car has killed my friend"
j.b. lenoir was killed by a heart attack caused by a car accident that had happened to him 3 weeks before.
You got a few of the words wrong 😉
A car has killed a friend in Chicago, thousand miles away
A car has killed a friend in Chicago, thousand miles away
When I read the news, night came early in my day.
J.B. Lenoir is dead and it’s hit me like hammer blow

I cry inside my heart that the world can’t hear my man no more.

Big fan myself, this song is a treasure. If you don’t mind, I’ll change the lyrics some:
: from the "Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues: The Soul Of A Man" Soundtrack
: A car has killed a friend in Chicago a thousand miles away,
: A car killed has friend in Chicago a thousand miles away.
: When I read the news night came early in my day.
: J.B. Lenoir is dead and its hit my like a hammer blow,
: J.B. Lenoir is dead and its hit my like a hammer blow,

: now the blues has lost a king and I’ve lost a friend who died in pain.
Incidentally, released in 1967 on Crusade, a man cut down just when the establishment would have wanted but his roots live on in America through music like this and more. Fantastic…
When I read the news, night came early in my day.
A "caress" cannot killed anyone. I cannot figure out how a would-be fan of JB Lenoir did not understand the words "a car has killed a friend".
Anyway follow the link http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/~blues/Death%20of%20JB%20Lenoir.htm to find out more about the lyrics.
A car has killed a friend in chicago, thousand miles away : JB Lenoir was a blues singes and died of a car accident
when I read the news, NIGHT came early in my day
JB lenoir is dead and it’s (=it has) hit me like a hammer blow
😉
Indeed, incredible song! This is my take on the lyrics, the last verse is very different. Maybe I just like to picture JB as an unappreciated blues genious 🙂
A car har killed a friend in Chicago a thousand miles away

JB had to struggle playing unappreciated blues in vain

Now the blues has lost a king and I’ve lost a friend who died in pain
thanks a lot
First two lines are:
A car has killed a friend in Chicago thousand miles away (2x)
the rest seems okay…
its "a car has killed a friend"
thx for your lyrics man and wasn’t able to find other on the web
I think the first line begins with "a car has killed", not a caress. Not sure though.

1.looking for the lyrics to Mississippi Fred McDowells "Louise" from the "You Gotta Move" record on Arhoolie .
2. Looking for the song title and artist of a song I heard in the movie LEADBELLY. The seen was "leadbelly" and "Blind Lemon Jefferson" riding in a car, and "BLJ" singing. One lyric I remember him singing was "..ONE KIND FAVOR.." but it is a version I never heard before.
One kind favor the I ask of you, "see that my grave is kept clean".
I’m sure that is the BLJ lyric of which you are speaking. It is one of his most famous tunes.
