I'm a not a native english speaker but a huge fan of John Mayall and J.B. Lenoir and couldn't imagine a more touching song than "The Death of J.B. Lenoir". After searching the net for hours to find the lyrics I finally decided to figure them out myself. So please forgive me if there are any errors, grammatical or concerning the sense and feel free to correct them.
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers - "The Death of J.B. Lenoir"
from the "Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues: The Soul Of A Man" Soundtrack
A caress killed a friend and Chicago's thousand miles away,
A caress killed a friend and Chicago's thousand miles away.
When I read the news, nod (?)(note) came early in my day.
J.B. Lenoir is dead and its (it has ?) hit my like a hammer blow,
J.B. Lenoir is dead and its hit my like a hammer blow,
I cry inside my heart that the world can't hear my man no more.
J.B. had a struggled play (?) and appreciated blues in vain,
J.B. had a struggled play and appreciated blues in vain,
now the blues has lost a king and I've lost a friend that died in pain.
This comment may be too late; but I hope someone is still interested in the lyrics.
