What Mr.Block did for me
I was lucky enough to have been a student of Mr. Block's many years ago...I remember taking lessons in his basement, on I think it was an old New Yorker, a guitar I'd cut my arm off to play again, except that doesn't make much sense does it? He gave me my first job teaching at Dorothy Pearler's music school...an honor I must say.
I want to take this time to thank him publicly for the education he gave me. I can read and remember some of his instruction, basically, dont move if you dont have to <g>, to the point where I've gone back to the standards and created my own arrangements of Sunny Side of the Street, Chantnoouga Choo Choo, Sentimental Journey, Basin Street Blues, Goody Goody, Gettin' Sentimental Over You, Aint Misbehavin', and my wildest accomplishment guitaristically, Moody's Mood for Love (King Pleasure and Blosson Dearie). The value of my musical education doesnt tally in money; doesn't begin to account for the knowledge he imparted to me and the pleasure I've derived from what I learned from him. So thank you Mr. Block. I only wish I was a better student of yours in the time we had together.
sincerely,
