Guitar parts forum

While maintaining a page for Schaller parts, I found out that many people have questions I can’t answer by myself. Unfortunately, turning to manufacturer doesn’t always mean getting any reply, too…

That’s why I launched this forum and hope it may help somebody the answers he(she) needs.

I no longer run the forum, but you can discuss everything here (not Schaller’s stuff only).

There is only one but: that “everything” should be about guitar/bass or other stringed instruments building, repair etc.

  3. Heavier strings
    Really upset guitarist

I changed the strings on my guitar, they were the originals, and its a Floyde Rose locking tremelo.
The new strings are heavy Ernie Balls, now the strings won’t stay in tune to save my butt.
I adjusted the springs in the back, but it still won’t stay in tune.
There were three springs in the back of the guitar, should I get another one put in???
any help would be great, cause we play next week.
    Thanx

most guitars come from the factory with a string
gauge of .009 to .046, and if you go to a heavy
gauge string like .010 to .052’s you will need to add a extra spring to your floyd.
the first thing you need to do is get the tension
off the tremolo and then add you spring. make sure
you get the tremolo as level as possible so the
strings will stay in tune. as the strings strech
you will need to retune a few times. I hope this
      helps you out dude.

  4. Raising humbuckers
    ZAO Freak

Hey, how do I raise the humbuckers on my Ibanez?????
I want to get more feedback, and I’ve heard that if you raise the pickups closer to the strings, it will hum more.
This is a brand new guitar, I don’t want to mess the pickups up.
so, if someone could tell me how to do that, I’d really appreciate it.
    Thanx people!
    :^)

    1. Re: Raising humbuckers
      GlorifiedG

I’m no expert, but if your guitar is like most I’ve seen, then it’s pretty simple. I’m guessing it’s a standard electic and there should be screws on either side of the pick-up with the head sticking through the pickguard. just tighten those up. there’s springs on the other side that allow the pickup to move forward and back with those screws.

  5. Ibanez RG220D guitar w/ Floyde Rose floating tremelo
    ZAO Freak

I have a Ibanez RG220B guitar, and the floating bridge on my locking Floyde Rose tremelo keeps raising up when I tune my strings, I’ve adjusted the springs in the back many times, and the bridge still isn’t parallel to the guitar.

It keeps raising or lowering, and I can’t keep it straight, so I was wondering how to fine tune it so its level.
    thanx

The first thing you need to do is to find out what gauge of strings you have. Based on the gauge, you can get a better idea of how to set the thing up. If you take off the back cover of your guitar you will see the spring tension screws and the other inter-workings of your floyd rose. now usually there will be three springs there. three because most guitars come with a light-med. gauge strings.
Now if the back of the tremolo is pointing down
toward the body you might have a heavy gauge strings on, in which case you need to add a extra
spring. (make sure you get the springs equaly spaced) then adjust as needed and retune. take off
a spring if the tremolo is tilting back into the body (dont forget to space the springs in this case also) I hope this helps you out.

  6. KAHLER PARTS ??????
    Fred Adkins

I have a Jackson king v that has a Kahler fixed fine tune bridge on it.
The part I am looking for is kahler part # 139 (fixed bridge string hook) I have been looking for this part since July of 2001 and still cant find anyone who has this thing. I have went to BC Rich, Kahler,
Jackson, Allparts and every music store I can find…… if anyone knows where I can find these things e-mail me. Oh yeah one more thing
DONT EVER BUT ANYTHING THAT HAS KAHLER ON IT ANYWHERE !!!!

      Joe Theuerkauf

I have a Heritage with a Kahler floating trem on it, and one of the string hooks broke. It’s a locking bridge, but so what. I’ve tried looking into replacing the trem, finding the little piece of plastic I need, and have come up bupkis. I’m in touch with Heritage hoping they have something laying around.

If they do, perhaps they might be able to help you. I know they typically make Gibson lookalikes, but the one I bought looks just like a plain-jane Jackson. If I learn anything, I’ll let you know.

PS: Yes, avoid Kahler like plague.

Thing is I’ve got a Jap copy of a Kahler trem I’ve had since Kahler first made the things, must have been early eighties. This Jap company brought out a copy and I think Kahler sued for copyright. I am in the middle of making my own guitar and it needs one of these Kahler type trem systems. Its an excellent design. So, does anyone know of any other company making this type of system?

Kahler does have a website but it is pretty lame. I too have been bitten by the kahler bug. I have J.B. Player Strat knock off from the late 80’s that had a kahler floating trem. broke the trem in shipment, Body sounded good so I wanted to replace. Now I have a gaping hole that only the original kahler will fit.

Was bidding on ebay for the exact replacement. Got over bid at the last second, He got it for 30 bucks. Seller said it came out of an old Peavey.

  7. How do I install a new Tremelo in a guitar that already has one
    Robert Beard

I’ve got a Peavey Tracer. And a KMD Floyd Rose Licensed Tremelo. There is an existing Tremelo installed "Kahler Flyer". It’s all rusted, broken. The KMD is a different style with bigger studs than the previously installed flyer. How do I go about installing this new Trem myself. Books? Advice? Tools? Estimated time for beginner? Thank you

the second hole was for a screw that increased or decreased the spring tension tension via a cam connected to the springs to set the floating height of the part of the tremolo that pivits. if you remove the tremolo you will see the cam

  20. Floyd Rose Help
    LuLu

I have a BC Rich NJ Beast Guitar with a licensed Floyd Rose Tremolo. When I tune the strings they keep going flat so I tune then and it pulls the tremolo way up off the guitar. the only way the strings stay in tune is if the tremolo is all the way off the guitar to its maximum. When I lock the nuts it still goes flat because the bridge has so much give I guess. How do I stop this.

    1. Re: Floyd Rose Help
      mark

to set the floyd rose trem afloat and in tune take off back plate and adjust springs for example if floyd is dipping forward turn the screws equally clockwise untill the trem is flush with the guitar and then check your tunning you will have to compensate for the adjustment email me for more help

I’m looking for a tremelo for a non-production Godin prototype body I came across. I’m told it may have been a six-screw trem possibly made by Schaller. In any case it’s got a large footprint (floyd size but square) and a very shallow rout. Wondering if anyone’s seen anything like this.

I was wondering whether you have stratocaster tremelo bridge covers that would fit my squire affinity strat. one of my friends told me that the tremelo bridge on a squire is a different size than ones on regular fenders. i’ve been improving my guitar for quite some time putting on a better pickguard, better tuning machines, and darkening up my headstock. it looks real cool, but i just can’t find a bridge cover that will fit. if you have one, or know where to find one or get one custom made. please email me back, my email address is [email protected]

        Hi all.

Im having trouble with the kahler on my jackson KE1. It seems like kahler has packed up and are now making golf clubs, and the parts aren`t being produced anymore. The store I went to told me the best idea was to buy a whole trem unit off the net and cannibalise the parts as needed. However, the apm 3310, stock on jackson`s KV1 and KE1, is very hard to find.

Is the apm 3310 (non trem) the same as the kahler pro (unit with trem bar) in all respects except for the bar, or are the specs totally different? if the dimensions and parts are the same, then apm 3310 users, get hold of a kahler pro unit for spare parts.

Thanks in advance for all info.

No, but would like to know myself. I’ve got a Mustaine sig series KV1 and Jackson will not give me any leads on it. They only tell me they don’t offer it anymore. I wonder if they tell Mustaine the same thing? heh

      1. Kahler parts for misc models.

Contact Wammi world. That IS Kahler’s parts dept. This guy will know. I have got old Spyder, Killer and other Kahler stuff. I even decked a LP Custom out in Kahler all gold everything. Mind you it may cost some money, but he should have the best info on Kahler stuff. Kahler brass works made bridges for Jackson, Charvelle etc before there was anything with Kahler’s name on it. Thankfully Kahler has kept quality high and production in the USA. Floyd sues anyone who makes anything that remotely resembles a Floyd Rose based on “dress rights” which do not expire. That is the most chicken shit thing I ever heard. A floyd Rose with dress rights? Yeah the Fender headstock shape, or Vox grille cloth, but a bunch of bolts and screws on a plate? I have more items that have Floyd licenses on them that work almost nothing like a Floyd Rose that an appeal would probably overturn what ever kangaroo court made that decision. Anyway Wammy or Wammi World what ever it is can give you some ideas. Otherwise troll Ebay and pray.
