  1. Alvarez Yairi DY99; Tree of Life with Modulus Neck

    I have heard the DY99 model of this guitar is very rare and could have passed through the hands of Jerry Garcia at some point and there are pictures and videos of him playing this exact model with the Modulus graphite neck. Very few have been found to even exist and mine is in pristine condition.

    Can anyone verify its lineage and what it is worth especially with Grateful Dead fans looking to hold a piece of Jerry Garcia history.

      There are pictures and video of Jerry Garica playing the very rare Alvarez Yairi DY99 available. Further research after speaking with Alvarez Yairi and the people at Modulus show this guitar with the tree of life inlay and graphite neck to be very rare with only a handful being made specifically for Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. That is why there has been very few to have been found in the world of this model guitar.

      One recently sold in a last second bidding war for just over $3100 on Ebay without mentioning Garcia or the Grateful Dead at all as it was purchased at an estate sale of some wealthy guitar collector but with Jerry Garcia’s other guitars Wolf and Tiger going for much, much more finding one of these model guitars would be like finding a needle in a haystack and finding one in pristine condition could be the find of the century for Dead fans all over the world.

    I have a 1900’s Parlour Guitar with SOLID Mother of Pearl fingerboard. The fingerboard has Abalone inlays of stuff like a Lotus Flower, Infinity symbol, a Trillium, and other stuff like that. The Guitar has lots of Ivory. Banding is perloid.

    I imagine that it was custom made for someone famous – anyone have any ideas how I might find the name of the musician that played this beauty?

      I bought this guitar from Norwalk Music in California in 1988, and it was my main Gig guitar for years (even over my Jacksons). I love it for metal, sounds and plays great. For me the extra frets are useless because my fingers are too big, but I love the cutaway for comfort. Mine has a little gig wear, but not bad for all the use and abuse from live metal shows. I’m surprised I never broke the neck. I’ll die with mine. These are extremely rare. It’s hard to find any info on them, even from Washburn. Because of this, it may be tough getting what it’s worth since the demand isn’t there. I would only sell to a collector, never a music store. If we can only get Steve Vai to use one… hmmm

        Hello, I’m in England and have a 36 fret Washburn in WHITE Crackle.
        I have had it for around 18 years and would NEVER sell it.
        It’s my favourite ever.It’s on the wall and I keep getting it down to play it. And it plays as good today as it did when new.
        I remember I kept looking at it in this shop in Nottingham and eventually couldn’t resist it anymore.
        It’s the best thing I ever bought and have no regrets.
        If I had to sell my Guitars then this would be the on I’d hide

      After playing other guitars and comparing craftmanship, I The IEC 36 is practically priceless! Neck through body, 36 fretts, thats hard to accomplish! I have been toteing this some bitch around for the past 20 + years! I think I gona start using it again, need some strings though I tend to break them on any guitar! I guess I will write a new solo with it! Check out

      if the electronic were redone, then the guitar may run at 600/700 us. since this guitar is rare in the sense of number of frets and aesthetics, it could be worth a little bit less because of the original electronics changed because the sound of the 80’s and 90’s metal was something really specific (yet generic9 and that generic tone may be sought after by some people. never change nothing on a good guitar! I’m looking for one myself. fernando.

      actually, these guitars sell for less than their original price nowadays…you can pick one up for $800, they aren’t very desirable except amoung some circles…hope this helps

          I have the original show model, the one advertised in the guitar player magazine when they came out. I have only seen one other of these in Hawaii in 1991,It was very difficult to get this even when it first came out. they sold out within days i think, maybe even before that, I know the local store here never got them, and the Hollywood store did not have em, I got mine from the rep as he said it was the show model. I have kept it in the best condition. I would consider a bid, it would have to be in excess of the one that just sold on eBay for $1600. though but again I am in need of money, besides the rep I am the original owner! 661-393-2521 Los Angles

            After doing a little math I realized I was in hawii in 1989, where If you stopped in the Kuhio saloon you may have heard me playing "Metal version" of johnny be good with this 36 fret guitar along with a one man band side show act guy that played a number of instrument as the same time, it was the gig I could get at the time, but I was amazed that people though went crazy for my
            blistering soloing over the side show music. I am not sure but I think that guy the had symbols strapped between his legs that he would clap togather??
