: can anyone send me some reggae solo scales n some reggae chords email me at [email protected]
I have a very limited knowledge of reggae music, but I think i can help a little bit. Reggae Chords are not some fancy breed of their own, they basically are normal major/minor chords, nothing too abstract. What makes them unique is the voicing of the chords and the pattern/rythym in which they are strummed. For example, Dyer Maker by Zeppelin has somewhat of a reggae feel, not exactly, but a good example. It is just c major, a minor, f major, and g major. The notes are taken from the barre chord forms of these and just an interesting pattern and picking rythym is used on the D,G, and B strings. As for solos, this is where my knowledge goes way down hill, but from what I hear from Marley, etc, is a major pentatonic chord, maybe some major scale (iolian) thrown in. Of course minor pent would work too depending on the sound, but basically it is just the note you resolve to and the note you resolve from. Play with landing on different intervals from the root of the chord to get that sound. Maybe from the 7th to the 1st for the chord change. I am not sure if any of this helped. I just was in the mood for reggae and tried to decipher some of it. I am more of a blues man myself, but if you have any questions, i can try to help, and if i can’t, i know people who can.
I’ve been playing the guitar for a couple of years now and have recently started listening to the Blues! I want to buy a ‘Blues guitar’, but i’m not sure what to go for. Would a Fender Telecaster be a good choice? Alot of the bands I listen to, such as Workdogs, Gibson Brothers, Blues Explosion, R.L.Burnside etc. tend to use Telecasters so I was thinking of getting one. What other Blues guitars would you recommend? I can spend upto £600, which I think is about $900. I would really appreciate your help, and I look forward to hearing from you, Chris.

Hey Cris
Most of the Workdogs’ sidemen played junk guitars from hell. It’s not the git, it’s the player. Just keep practising on a guitar that feels good to you and listen to as much old blues as you can get your hands on.

: : use only minor chords for pretty much all reggae that is not bob marley. minor chords fretted up the neck, not open minor chords. To get the reggae "whickit" sound that you hear, you have to roll your right strumming hand over to mute the strings after you strike. do this roll while easing off with the left hand with the chord. scales that are used are playing the minor pentatonic over the minor chord that is being played. some reggae soloists use that distortion with those high bends. Get some thin strings; it helps. just mess around with the tone on your amp and you’ll stumble across the distortion sound, i don’t use a petal for my reggae distortion, i just mess with the dirt on my fender. any questions email me rferg01@hotmail
