  4. Silvertone Hollowbody electric HELP
    Rick

    I have a Silvertone hollowbody electric 3 pick-up w/ seperate switches
a Bigsby tremelo with the #’s F-66HM, F-66IW, and 7834H1454 on the inside. I need the 1st string tuner(the tuner key(?) is there but the rod thru the headstock is missing). I was also wondering what value it has, not that I’m going to sell it, I just want to know. It has an individual electric tuning knob for each of the 6 strings on the main body. I beleive it to be from the early to mid 60’s.
    Any help would be appreciated.

That’s close but not quite. Mine is a single cutaway with no pick guard. Otherwise that’s right on.

I’m trying to locate a pickguard and bridge coverplate for a Silvertone "Beatle" Bass. Will consider buying another Silvertone "Beatle" Bass, regardless of condition, if the pickguard and bridge coverplate are present.

my model number is slightly different its a 319-12149 but its made in the USA i believe that in 1964 silvertone began having there guitar made over sees with the wood that the shipped from the states. so i know its at least older than 64 and assume that is all i will ever know

      1. 1967 Silvertone 319.12149 Acoustic
        Randy

Hi, I have a 1967 that was completely rebuilt by Scott Baxendale, a well known luthier in Georgia. It is my go-to guitar and I don’t say that lightly. I have a Gibson J-45 Regal, Gibson J200 Parlor (not that many out there and not to be confused with the Gibson Parlor), Martin 000-17SM, etc., and the Silvertone beats them all. Scott completely took this guitar apart and re-braced it, added new open back Waverly tuners, replaced the nut and bridge, but never touched the woods other than to clean the guitar up (spruce bracing of course was new). I must have gotten one that was under someone’s bed for many years, since there were no cracks when he started to work on it and no neck issues at all, no wood warping, which is a great thing. Of course I keep it humidified in its case and I can’t say enough about it. After Scott rebuilt it, it had a price tag to go with it, but not bad at all when you consider what a quality guitar costs these days. That said, it was amongst the less expensive American made guitars that I own, which is all I’ll own by the way. I’ll never sell this guitar. I’d starve to death first and after that, I’d request it to be buried with me :). Here’s what little spec I have on this guitar, which I either measured or guessed at, keeping in mind that these weren’t originally custom built, but rather catalogue guitars:

        Nut Width: 1 3/4″
        1st Fret String Spacing: 5/16″
        12th Fret String Spading: 3/8″
        Top Wood: Sounds like Spruce
Back & Sides Wood: Maple or Birch, but I’m leaning more towards Maple

It is without doubt worth the time and expense to have one redone.

        Thanks,
        Randy

        1. Correction to my previous post
          Randy

Even though this thread dates back a day or two, I’m going to correct what I said about my 319 being a 1967. It is actually a 1969. As far as the back and sides wood, I’m going to throw Mahogany in the mix as a possibility. I’m have a custom guitar built at the moment and the specs I have requested are straight from this Silvertone. The Luthier I’m using said he thinks it could be Mahogany. Either way, if you find one of these gems, pick it up and have it redone. Even though it was a catalogue guitar, it was made in the USA and the quality is still better than these knock-off guitars are, by a country mile.

      Hi Jacqueline & Paul,
I also have the same model. It’s a great little acoustic guitar. Mine is a nice brown wood-finish that gets lighter in color as you get near the sound hole. I don’t know much about this guitar model(year?,etc.) Sorry. Maybe the nest person who comes along will. I’m just gonna hold on to mine as long as I can or until it falls apart! Thom

        Eddy G'bone

I have the same guitar. My mother bought it for my dad in celebration of their 1st wedding anniversary. She bought it at a garage sale in mid 1967, so it is at least older than that. It also has the numbers 2635S1214 near the base of the neck on the inside. So far that’s about all I know about it other than it is the guitar I learned to play on.

        1. Your guitar date
          Anonymous

This was made the Feb 1963 on the 5th day thus, 2635 or 2/63/5 the S stands for satin finish or on some the stain or style of coloring. Without seeing it I can best say yours has a semi satin finish.

      2. Since everyone else posted I will too. I have an acoustic silvertone guitar model 319.12208 made in u.s.a. I just wanna know how old it is. Any help?

      3. Are there any numbers rubber
        Anonymous

Are there any numbers rubber stamped on the inside of the guitars? This would help in that both Kay and Harmony stamped their own numbers inside.

I have one of these two that was given to me by my father-in-law. Haven’t determined what model it is, but surprisingly I really like the tone..

I don’t think you’ll get rich off a Silvertone though. So just play it!

The 1448 model Silvertone with case and built in tube amp are increasing in Value. People are paying anywhere from $275 and up, depending on the value. Those in excellent condition will continue to go up in cost because there aren’t alot of them in good condition. Very Collectable. I just bought one myself.

I have one too, the exact same model as you, 1448, same colors, black with bits of silver glitter on a hard case with built in amp and quitar the same color as the case. I’ve had offers for over $700. I also have the matching bass with it. The set values to over $1500. My sugestion is to put it away, and never take it out unless to play every once in a while, and get a less expensive one to play around with. Silvertones are quite rare, mostly because the Japanese started remaking them and selling them as the real thing, so the originals by sears have gone up in price.

I have an older silvertone electric with 4 pickups, a wierd striped chrome pickguard (which is almost as big as the whole front of the guitar), some sort of treble/bass selector and 20 frets. I Had a three pickup, (chrome without any adjustment screws) version with the same pickguard/control plate trapozoid(?) shaped face. Les Paul shaped body, tabacoo sunburst, plywood semi-hollow body, flat top and back, white plastic binding bolt in neck, no visible truss rod, redish position dots, has the exact same fret scale, width and thickness (20 frets only)dimensions of my 53 Les Paul junior, made of a blond wood, neck and fingerboard, over the end tail peice, never had the original bridge, three volume and tone controls, a rotary switch to get various combinations of the pickups, plug jack in the top.

Had great action, terrible sound. Way too much feedback.

Died a dogs death, but I rebuilt the neck into a great little homemade electric.

Value will only depend on who might be looking for one.

        Try ebay.

        John

Thanks……I also have an old Silvertone acoustic guitar that I bought 20 years ago. Info I found on the web is that Silvertone was a Sears brand name that Sears & Roebuck put on several guitar models like Kay, and others and sold them under the Silvertone brand name. I found a picture of mine on E-bay and the info there said mine was made in the 1950’s. I am finding it hard to find a site where I can match my serial number. There is probably a number stamped on the inside of the guitar. Take a pen light and look through the slot on the front. Check carefully and try to cover the whole inside on the back. It is hard to spot but my serial number was in rather large digits but only visible through one of the slots at just the right angle. Hope this helps a little. If you find a site where I can match the serial number, let me know. Thanks DJ

:The serial number means nothing for dating this amp. I just bought one and I am going though the same search.

The best way to date them is based on the Pots or the Volume and Tone switch that you turn.

The pots for both have codes on the back of them. Based on the 4 digit code on the back of the pots you can determine the age.

For example mine had the numbers 6640 and 6645. This means "1966" and the 40th and 45th weeks of that year the pots were made.

An excellent source of information is the "Dating Vintage Guitars and Amps by Source-Date code". The above is from that article.

I just picked up a small acoustic silvertone. Looks like a childs model. Had a 45 instructtional record with it.The guitar and record packaging are like new. The no. on the record package is 6490.The guitar is a dark black-brown sunburst. It still sounds nice.
Any info for me? What have I got here? Thank you and keep on pickin’, joe

If it is a thinline with two pickups with white covers and f-hole,it is worth anywhere from $350 to $450.depending on condition. Are you looking to sell this guitar?

        Good Luck,

I have an electric hollow body F hole silvertone thats been in my family sence the 1950’s. Everything works perfect and It has a beautiful sunburst finish.I also have the original red crushed velvet case. This guitar belonged to my father and he thought he bought it around 1954. Numbers inside body–(L 4700-8999 N-1) Everybody I have talked to said they have never seen one like it.

Can anybody help me get some good info on this–Value, age, collectability etc.
