  1. Martin SPD16-TRP
    Bob

Hello, I’m inquiring about an SPD-16 TRP that says custom made for Guitar Center. What I do know is that it was made in 1997. I’m interested in what the TRP stands for and possibly the value.

    Thank you

  2. Martin cd45 fake
    Bob b

I just bought an acoustic guitar. The man in the local market said it was a game Martin. But being guitar nutcase I tried it out. Wow. The sound and build quality seemed genuine. He said he needed the cash as he’s made no money all week. Probably a sales pitch. I said I only had £200 cash on me. I bought it. Now, the question is, how can I tell? There is a serial number. Probably fake. Inside, on the block. 091672. I’m not too bothered if it’s not real cos it looks lovely, plays beautifully, and sounds fantastic. O, with a real case, I think. If you can help thank you. Real Martin owners please forgive me my sins. Rob from Wales.

  4. Martin DCPA4 , OMCPA4 or 000
    Tyler

Hi , I have played electric guitar for a number of years and play in a band . I am thinking of branching off and doing the odd gig acoustic on my own . My style is just flat picking, strumming and solo’s from electric playing . I’m after treating myself to a nice acoustic and I’m wondering if anyone can help ?
I suppose I’m after a good all rounder . Songs I play are mostly classic rock , pink floyd , Bon jovi , Eric Clapton , oasis etc . I have in mind a Martin dcpa4 , ompca4 or maybe a 000 ? I suppose I need some help on which body shape to go for to suit my style and needs ? I like the idea of having a cutaway just in case it’s needed, but it’s not essential if something else would suit me better
    Cheers

  5. 1970 Martin D28s
    David Ikard

Looking at a 1970 D28s that has had an LR Baggs pickup installed. Does this affect the guitar’s value? What is a range of value for this guitar? It’s in good shape with no cracks. The pickguard has also been replaced with a standard tortoise color pickguard. Thanks for the help.

  6. head stock Martin decal
    Jerry Brittain

I just purchased a very unique guitar. My present guitar is a D32P, great, rich, sound. Today, I bought another guitar, it is identical to the D35, in every way. There is a paper ion the inside of the guitar saying it was put together to be like the D35, suspect most of the parts, including the body, neck, and head, are from a former Martin. Sound is unbelievable. Know something of the history, same owner for decades, who just died.
My question is this. I want to find one of the decals that goes on the head stock. Are they for sale, and if so, whom do I contact. Don’t want or plan to misrepresent it, one look inside says it was made in California, but for sentimental sake, want to see if I can locate one of the decals.
Any thought or suggestion much appreciated.

  10. Looking to Buy a Pre-War Herringbone
    Michael ONeill

I’m looking to buy a pre-war herringbone… I have looked at a couple, but I’m finding it difficult to ascertain the going rate for these guitars. Can anyone give me some info or point me to a resource that shows some pricing or comparable recent purchases? I understand all the variables that can impact the price… I’m just looking for some rough guidelines. Thanks a lot.

  11. Difference Between D-28 vs D-35 vs D-45
    Steve Leonardo

What are the differences between D-28 vs D-35 vs D-45. Is the size the same? Tone the same? Is just the trim and decoration different.

      Size, is the same
      Tone, a bit different

D28 is the de facto standard

D35 has a three peice back and a bit more Bass response, and a bound neck

D45 is top of the line in regard to trim

  12. Choosing a Martin Model
    Sean

Martin makes a ton a models and guitar sizes, and prices vary. How does one choose between models? What’s the difference?

I have a Martin DX-1K. I bought this as a camping/cottaging guitar and fell in love with the way it plays and sounds. I’m now intrigued to discover the higher-end Martins. The issue is there are so many models.

I play folk/blues/country stuff. What’s a good next step for me to investigate? I love the bass and volume of my dreadnaught.

I really just want to narrow down my search. My proce range is $900-$1500 and I will consider used.

  13. 1950 D-28 Martin played on the Grand Ole Opry

Hello….my father was on the "Grand Ole Opry" in 1962 regularly…He played a 1950 Martin D-28…."Serial number 119xxx" as well as several other artists at the time also played it onstage….It has a "custom pick guard added by another performer named Shot Jackson and the guitar is in some of the pictures of my dad performing on the Opry….You can go to Bobbyhodge.homestead.com to see the guitar…My dad said even Elvis played it……Anyway…..I am looking to sell it and will entertain all "Reasonable" offers. ddavis

my father has an older martin dred (probably 60’s). he wants a soundhole pickup for live performance. i am thinking of getting him either the baggs M1 or the fishman rare earth humbucker.

  15. Martin Collectable
    Bob O'Marah

Hi, I’m new to the forum, I play a 1977 HD-28 in a bluegrass band.
I love the guitar and love the music we play. About twenty years ago I bought, used in a flea market, a Beverage Cooler made out of wood and shaped in a barrel form. I’m looking for some info. on it. It has a C.F. Martin & Co. logo painted on it, the cushioned top lifts off and inside is a plastic insert to hold ice and beverages and it has two rope handles. It’s kind of neat and an interesting conversation piece, does anyone here, know the history on this piece?

  16. Martin N20
    Larry

    Hi,
Would anyone know what the date range is for the N20? I was under the impression Martin dicontinued making this guitar sometime in the 70s but the serial number on mine looks to be from 1988.
    Thanks for your help.

  17. Difference between 1987 D-16 & D-18

I can’t find any info on what exactly is the difference between these two models vintage 1987. Looks like same size, woods, binding, & bracing. Anyone out ther know?

  18. Martin Prewar tuning machines -- where can I find?
    Ken Totushek

    Hi friends,

Hey, I’m looking for a source for Martin prewar tuning machines–particularly the 3 on a plate engraved ones for a turn of the (last) century 0/ 00-28 model. Does anyone know of a source for vintage Martin parts? I’ve searched the web high and low, and can only come up with newer imitations (sort of). I’m looking for the real thing! Anyone have an old prewar Martin for parts? I bet you could make a bundle, if the parts are original!

    Thanks much,

    Ken T.

  19. Martin Sting Mini
    Jim Mathews

I purchased a Martin Sting Mini several months ago. I have not played the guitar much, maybe 30 minutes tops and I have noticed that the frets are already showing wear. Now I know that you are bound to get minor marks from the strings, this is more than that. It has significant wear marks that I feel are abnormal for a guitar That costs this much. I also have owned and still own other Martin guitars and have not had any problems like this .Is anyone else having similar problems with their Mini?

    1. Re: Martin Sting Mini
      jim

: I have since had the martin inspected by a couple of professionals and they say that it is indeed just string marks not actually fret wear. I took a high powered magnifier and they are right, no fret wear.
      That is a relief.

  20. 1956 D28
    william

I have a 56 D18 in amazing shape: sides and back of the best Brazilian I’ve ever seen in near mint condition; very slight checking on top, the B-string crack (repaired)all original except saddle (ivory) because of recent neck set, original case; I’m the second owner, and I just got an original herringbone. This is investment grade, a slim neck, and comes close to my herringbone. I would consider a trade for an older 00028 or a prewar D18. I’m in west Michigan.

  21. can't find serial number
    duggee

I’m staring with a flashlight into the guitar. I’m looking up and down and sideways. Straight down I see CEMartin & Co. Nazareth Pa, Made in USA. Can’t see no serial number anywhere. WHERE IS IT? Maybe the pick up installer covered it, but doesn’t seem likely. The Martin website doesn’t say and I can’t find it on the forum.

  23. D-18AG new pickguard?
    television

I have a Martin D-18 Andy Griffith. I don’t know a whole lot about acoustic guitars and the acoustic guitar market. I’m wondering if I would de-value the guitar if I put a tortoise pickguard on in place of the clear pickguard that comes standard on the guitar. I don’t like the clear pickguard….but don’t want to mod the guitar if the mod causes a huge decrease in its value. Thoughts anyone?

  24. 52 Martin D-28
    dream-finders

I am about ready to pull the trigger on a ’52 Martin D-28 in apparent pristine condition – I have pics. It will be for sale but does anyone know the real prices these are going for. Has non-original case and is a one owner guitar. Thanks, Kevin

    Ian Dwyer

Ok, I know this is a Martin forum so I am sorry in advance for asking this question, but I am looking to buy either the Martin LX1 or the Tylor Baby Taylor. What do you guys think? Anyone have any knowledge about these two guitars they want to share? All input is welcome. Thanks in advance!

  27. I’m looking to sell my Martin. It’s about a year old with normal wear for a year old guitar. Awesome sound and it’s about the nicest looking guitar I’ve ever seen. I’ll take 2800.00 or best offer. Pictures will be sent at request.
    Thanks!!!

Does anyone have an idea what year CF Martin Made the switch from Rosewood to Black Micarta on their 00016 Models? Owning several models including D28s, and 35s I have found myself picking up the 00016rgte more often than the others and love them. would like to have one with rosewood bridge and fretboard instead of micarta.. knowing the year would help

      Tim Holmes

Played one the other day and was amazed! It blew away any Martin D-28 I’ve ever played and even my precious Breedlove 🙁 .
This guitar is a virtual cannon unplugged, and is incredible sounding with the Fishman Ellipse transducer/mic. combo plugged into a Fishman acoustic amp.
I’ve got a feeling there is one in my near future!

  30. Martin guitar registry?
    Dale Wagler

Is there a registry anywhere for Martin guitars? I’m trying to locate my grandfathers pre-war D-45. It had "HAW" (his initials) inlaid at the 12th fret. I’m not sure of the year, but he sold it to a Martin employee in the early 70s, I have the ’71 D-45 that he took in partial trade, but would like to find his original guitar. Thanks.

  31. Martin F-50

Is there any intrest in a Martin F-50? I purchased one about a year ago, but don’t play it much. I am willing to sell or trade… I don’t have the original case, but do have a good hardshell case for it… other than that everything else is intact.
