Would like anyone’s comments on this model. Maybe compared to the D18. Would the micarts fingerboard detract from the tone compared to ebony?
I bought a used one last October just for an investment, but fell in love with the tone and sheer volume of this guitar. The micarta does not seem to make a difference in the feel and definitely no affect on the tone. Outfitted with Markley’s Custom Light Alchemy strings, and this guitar rivals any D-18, 28 or 35 I have played.

I must agree! I own the CEO4R along with four other hi-end Martins and to tell you the truth, this one playes and sounds the best. Maybe it’s the way I have it set up or the fact the I use bone end pins and saddle but be assured I love my CEO4R and will never get rid of it.
I just knocked my case into my 000-15 and there is now a scratch about an inche and a half long. It has dented the surface ever so slightly. Can any of you help me to remove it? I am gutted this has happened!!!
So glad to have found the site. So happy to have registered. So frustrated that time after time and trick after trick, I am still prevented from posting, with no recourse. Please tell me why. Thanks.
I have a D 35, (my best friend) which I always told people was a DS 35. Is there such a thing as a “DS 35?” I guess I was just confused. Am I correct that the D 35 refers to the three part back which mine has? How can I find the serial number and thus the age of the instrument? Do all the D 35’s have the same dimensions?
I assume this is a serious request….inside the guitar you will see the seril number AND model number burnt into the wood, this will solve the DS issue…what is your serial number>?

I just bought a Martin DX1 Dreadnought that, for the most, part I am really in love with. The thing is there is some fret buzz that I’ve been noticing since I bought it. If I strum bar/power chords high up on the fret, or play single notes on the A or D string it will buzz a bit (it’s even more pronounced when I do this with my thumb, but I’m not sweating that since it isn’t good technique and I shouldn’t be doing it anyway).
I took it in to two different places to see what the deal was, and they both told me it’s set up just fine and that this is just sort of a normal part of the sound of an acoustic guitar. I’m primarily a bassist, and this is the first nice guitar I’ve owned, so I’ll admit I don’t totally know all that much about acoustics. So basically I wanted to get the feedback of others: does a certain amount of buzzing come with the territory of acoustics? Should I raise the action, and will that even make a difference? Do any other DX1 owners know what I’m talking about (cause I’ve heard it on others since my purchase).
Any advice/suggestions/whatever would be greatly appreciated. I just got this thing a couple days ago, and I played it thoroughly in the store and definetly love it, but maybe didn’t really notice just how much buzzing to expect. I’m kind of obsessing over it and wondering if I’ve made a bad buy, so any insight would be most helpful. Thanks a lot.

I’m looking for a Martin 0-18 or 0-?
anyone have one for sale?
I have a martin d28 that I acquired in 1973. I would like to find out when it was built. Know how I can tell by the serial number? I am trying to find out approx what its worth. It is in excellent condition with lowered action and internal pickup. It has a satin finish. Any ideas. Thanks.
Fred
Hello, I have been offered a Martin D-28 from 1971 for 1.500$. The guitar is said to be in good conditions. Is it a good price?. Thanks and long life to Doc Watson.
The price offered seems pretty good, especially if its in good shape. This right around the time they changed from Brazilian Rosewood to Indian rosewood. If it were Brazilian Rosewood the price would be more like $8000. A friend of mine has a Brazilian model and I have the Indian Rosewood D28. Actually I think mine sounds better. Good Luck. Hi Cifu, I’m just learning how to use this program. Did you buy the Martin D28 for the $1500 price? I think that is a good deal if it is in good condition. Did that include the case? Those guitars have a really good sound of that era. OK let me know. Fred
I own a 1966 Martin D-28, w/two piece Brazilian rosewood back, etc. Original owner, original papers, and guitar is in excellent condition.
The sound has only grown richer with age. Can anyone comment on the price range for resale?
……..Thanks!

Have a 1954 Martin 000-18. I’m being told the tuners are not orgiginal. I bought the guitar in 1976 from a friend’s grandmother. She bought it new. The turners are sealed, gold finished, and teardrop shaped. Any ideas what they might be?

Can someone please advise me as to the value of this instrument
purchased in 1973 from McCabe’s in Santa Monica, CA
All backpackers users seem to complain about the difficulty in handling this guitar. I need some ideas about how to add weight to the base to stablize it. Somewhere I read that a player dropped beanbags full of shot to weigh it down.
Hello, I’m trading in a Tanglewood all solid mahogany acoustic at the shop where I bought it a couple months back, because the neck is really rigid, not very easy to play slides and other. I tried a Martin DCX 1E, which the backs and sides are some composite material, but I was surprised at the bass end and the very playable neck. Any comments on these guitars? I should also state that I live in Europe, where prices are much more than in the States, either wise I’d probably get a solid wood model, but way too high over here.
:I bought one about 10 months ago and I really like it. It has great playability and the sound is unreal. Thats what sold me after I tried numerous guitars in the same price range. Even the least expensive martins have that same deep strong bass response. I also have a30 year old Guild f48 that is a beautiful instrument and sounds great but it’s not nearly as comfortable to play. Huge guitar, huge sound. I still play them both but the martin much more. Now I want the D28 bad!
This popular thread has been given its own page : 00-16DBM
: After a long search (about 3 years), I finally decided to try Martin for a small bodied blues guitar. I chose the 00-16DBM due to the 1/2 inch deeper body, as well as the unstained mahogany body as I prefer a no frills look. I guess I had always thought of Martins as folk and country guitars, but was I ever wrong. I just wanted to throw this out there and maybe help someone else find what they are looking for, as I searched the Martin line up, I was very impressed with the thoughtful assortment of variations offered by Martin. Also, the quality was above what was expected in the "daily player" Martins. Any comments or questions would be appreciated. Thanks, Whitey
Still happy? I am looking at one now

I own #14 out of 30. This thing is a wonder. It’s as though I have never played an acoustic guitar before (and I’ve been playing over forty years).
Anyone have an idea on the range on prices of this guitar in good to excellent condition?
: Anyone have an idea on the range on prices of this guitar in good to excellent condition?
I looked at one the other day and it wasn’t in very good cosmetic shape but it had a recent neck reset and he wanted almost 4,000.00 for it. It had a cracked bridge and he said he always tuned it down and just used the capo which told me he was afraid to tune it to pitch. From what I understand it was after 69 when they changed rosewood from Brazilian to Indian and that seems to be the driving factor on price. Personally I am going to look for an early 70’s guitar, they seem to run from 1,200-1,500 from what I see.
Am awaiting arrival of a new D-45. I currently own a HD-35 (circa 98) and was wondering if anyone can give me a good comparison between the sound of the HD-35 and D-45.
Thanks,
Ronnie
Can you help me log in. I registered but I keep getting kicked out thanks

Hey:
I am trying to price a 1941 00018 in good condition. I saw a ’39 D18 for $17,500. Is that the ball park? Thanks for the help.
Mike
Nope, D’s are in a different league for some reason. ’41 000s range $6 – $10k.

Hey can anyone help me get a ballpark value of my guitar. It is in good condition, there are small sub finish cracks in the top from it’s age and perhaps un-ideal humidity. It has been stored for the past 10 years in case in doors only bought out 3 times.
thanks Chris
well i just paid about 1400 dollars for one.
i would say if it plays really well it should fetch around that price

Hello, I am writing up a paper for my marketing class and i was wondering if some of you could tell me why you chose to buy martin guitars instead of a similarly priced Gibson or Taylor accoustic guitar? Also, what do you think about the quality of your Martins?
Sure — we buy Martins because they sound better for the kinds of music we play — if they didn’t we’d buy a different brand. When you get to a certain point in your playing, you decide whether or not you want to give yourself a superior instrument, of whatever brand you think will support your musical style best. For most types of music, Martins sound much better, mainly because of the way they are constructed.
Diffrent guitars…due to bracing, wood type and construction have diffrent tone, sustain, etc. One has to shop around, ask questions and play, play, play…….As with politics, some folks swear down party lines…As for me,I am neithe Republican or Democrat…also…I play waht suits my style and, yes, pocketbook!!

Hi. I would like to replate the gold tuning keys on my D-41. Any idea what type of place to get that done? I’m in Chesapeake VA if anyone knows of a specific place.
thanx,

Hi. Anyone ever complete a Martin Dreadnought guitar kit? I am thinking of doing a kit, Stew-Mac sells one that Luthier magazine gave a good review to, but I’m also interested in the Martin. I have a ’73 D-41, and as such am a Martin fan.
thanx,
Rich

I own a D28 Martin and a friend of mine dropped a portable phone on it and put a nasty little indention in it. Anyways i was wondering if it was possible to get my guitar either refaced or refinished and if it was possible how much would it cost?
Go to Martinguitars.com and find an authorized repair person in your area. I believe that (depending on size), small dings can be steamed out and the laquer touched up.

I am going to buy a guitar at a music store but, want to make sure I’m not getting ripped. Is $500 about the right price to pay for a Martin acoustic guitar DXM II. I looked on Martin’s website for a comparison. They have the DXM listed but not the DXM II. I’d appreciate feedback from any kind soul!
