Got one

Is this thread still alive? I recently acquired #183, fitted with EMC pickups and an extra switch I have not seen on other pictures. What happened to that website that is mentioned in this thread, it seems to have died - would like to get more info on these basses, the neck is really good, playing position takes some getting used to. Mine was missing one of the little bolts that keep the strap bow onto the body - what do you know, I contacted Warwick and they sent me one, complimentary - great service!

Joe

Re: Nobby Meidel

Hi, my Nobby Meidel is #379. I bought it used in 1987 and it's still the best bass I ever played.

Re: Nobby Meidel

Hello I have one of these great basses that belonged to my father. He bought it in the 80's from the original owner. I play it myself and it is an awesome bass. I can not find the serial # can someone please help me locate it. thank you

Re: Nobby Meidel

Hey #214 fretless here, small, heavy and still roars. Something about the way this thing was put together gives it a deeper tone than any bass I've played. Still lovin it!!!

Re: Nobby Meidel

I had a Nobby back in the middle to late 80's back when they first came out. I remember seeing sitting on the counter at the local music shop. When I asked about it, the gut told me one of his sales reps sold it to him cheap because he couldn't sell them. Once I got past that brass bar sticking up to hold the strap, I was hooked. I still kick myself in the butt for selling it.... but that's my M.O.

Re: Nobby Meidel

I have #286, I bought it in Vancouver BC Canada from Long and McQuades for $900.00 in 1984 and it has been my main fretted instrument ever since. Cheers from Canada

Re: Nobby Meidel

I bought mine (N° 404) for about 400 euros in a small town in the south of France. Some parts were missing and original pick-ups have been replaced with very ugly seymour-duncan ones. I'll have them changed very soon for EMG probably. And also, one day I bought a set of strings for a 5 strings bass and mounted the B, E, A and G strings on this instrument. I can't afford the purchase of a 5 strings bass at the moment, so this solution will do.

I'm the original owner of #505, bought in late 1986. The story goes that at the NAMM show in Chicago John Entwhistle bought 2 and this was the 3rd. Got it from Joe at Hackensack Music in New Jersey. It listed for $2050 US. I traded him my 65 P-Bass and $300. Oil finish and still very sweet. I'd love to hear more.
Regards...Richard

Hi,

I have #391 which I bought from a friend in 1987. I believe the guitar is a late 1984 model - I use it as my main gig guitar.
Regards,
Bob.

Re: Nobby Meidel

: Hi, I have a Nobey Meidel guitar! No, not a bass but a guitar and I too am looking for more information. Was told by Hans Peter Wilfer that there were about 200 basses and 30 guitars made. Anyone have anymore info?

Re: Nobby Meidel

I bought a Nobby Meidel in 1989 in Albany NY . It has been my main fretted bass ever since . It is #575 . I'm just curious about how much it is worth . I got it for $600 at the now defunct Drome Sound Music on Central Ave. downtown Albany . The sign beside it said "Lists for $1800 in Europe" . I have always known it was a special instrument somehow and have said many times that bidding would START at $3000 . It's NOT for sale ! but I can't find even a ball park figure of it's worth . Incidently , I was MEANT to have this bass ! Ask me why if we talk . It's a good story . Later ! Dave
