    Allan Sisson

I accidentally connected both outputs of my voo-doo vibe to two amplifiers that I believe are out of phase. when I daisy chain these amps there is to much feedback to hear notes. I think this move killed my voo-doo vibe. the eq response is starkly thinner than when I got it and is essentially unusable. are you (tom lankin) the offical roger mayer repair man? if so what do I have to do to get my voo-doo vibe tone back?

Does any body out there have any tabulation by Ernie Isley? (Ernie`s Jam in particular). I can`t figure out why you can`t find anything on the web in the form of tabulation or why you almost never here is name mentioned when the so call experts talk about the great guitar players. People put down the smoke and give him his props this guy is phenominal. I would greatly appreciate any tab by the great one. You would be doing me a enormous favor, I`ve been studying his style of playing for quite a while now and I just can`t seem to capture it. In the song Ernie`s Jam there are alot of classic licks, and I believe if I learned just some of them it would greatly enhanced my guitar playing. Thank you.

      1. Re: re any tabs on ernie isley
        M

I would have to agree with steven. Ernie has alway’s been my favorite guitarist. I’ve played since 1970. He was very inspirational and I have always been amazed by his guitar work. He is a true hero in my book. I had the opportunity to see three of their concerts back in ’75 ’76 ’78 at the forum in LA. Recently he played at the Cerritos Center. I was worried that I wouldn’t get a ticket. I lucked out and got a ticket in the 3rd row back from the stage. Let me tell you it was the best I’ve ever heard him play in all of the 30 yrs I’ve been listening. He hasn’t lost a lick! He always was, is and alway’s will be the best there will ever be!

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve gone on to meet some pretty legit musicians myself some from back in the day and have had a taste of the record business as well but have given it up (started playing keyboards) but I still have just about every album the Isleys in the 70’s. Can anyone tell me where I can get a good coppy of the Live it Up Album?

        1. Ernie is the Man!!
          LCH

Simply put, Ernie Isley is one of the BEST funk guitarist from back in the day and to this day. I have every record/tape/CD that the Isley’s have come out with and Ernie is still awesome. I had the chance to see him play at the Carmichael Center here in Montgomery, Alabama a while back, and stood right in front of him at the stage with the rest of the crowd looking up at the guitar wizard soloing on "Summer Breeze" and blowing everyone away!!!! He actually threw his guitar pick to me, which I have framed next to the 8×10 photo of him jamming when he threw me the pick! After the concert I had the opportunity to meet the master back stage finally after 30 years!!! and had some photos taken with him and Ronald Isley. I’m a guitarist myself and Ernie was my influence back in the day. Though I can play everything Ernie has come out with, he’s still the Man!!!!!!!!!!

          1. Hi I was reading what u wrote and im very pleazed and excited writing you. I respect youre feelings on Mr ernies playing style. With all respect can u tell me what guitar and guitar effects pedal i can use ive been playing for 8yrs hoping praying for improvment i hope u can tell me the effects u use to get that sound. Thank you so much and hopes of hearing from peace?

    Marc

Hey you guys, I don’t know much about the Isley brothers, but I was listening to a song by them in the car with my dad. The song was called "Summer Breeze", and I wanted to know if anyone had the tablature for the solo in that song, because I would really like to play it. Thanks

      Marc,

I just started tabbing alot of the Isley brothers music (Move Your Body, Secret Lover and Ernie’s Jam from their new album), I have started tabbing Who’s that lady? as well, I plan on starting Summer Breeze in about a week or two, it shouldn’t be that hard to tab because its straight forward (licks and chord wise), when I am finished I will let you know… Or just e-mail me in about a week or two…

  5. Voodoo Axe
    John Eacott

I am writing to get information on the Voodoo Axe pedal and Jimmy Page. As a Jimmy Page fan, I have been working on his violin bow and guitar; which was also done by Eddie Phillips of "The Creation." During the 1998 Page and Plant concerts, his use of this technique was great. I know that he uses a wah and distortion, but the wah sound was very nasally and sharp. In a review, a person commented that the Voodoo Axe produced a buzz saw type sound. Does Page use this unit? Any assistance you can provide will be appreciated. Thank you, John Have a great Christmas season.

Hi, I play harmonica. Have you had any experience of the Vision Wah
and a microphone with harmonica? I have tried to use wah pedals but I
believe the treble part of it gives me a feedback problem whereas I
can’t use them. I live in Los Angeles and am trying to find a dealer
of Roger Mayer pedals so I can test it. Do you know of any?
Thanks so much for your time, Vic Damus

    4. Re: Ernie Isley's guitar effects
      Robert L. Watson

I believe that Ernie Isley used several effects on the Isley Brothers records from "3+3" to "Winner Takes All" such as the Cry Baby wah, the Maestro PS-1A Phase Shifter, the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff fuzz box, and the Roger Mayer Octavia. His effect setup had changed through the years. In fact, Ernie had started using the Boss Flanger around 1980 when he recorded such songs for the Isley Brothers such as "Don’t Say Goodnight ( It’s Time For Love )" "Choosy Lover" "Between The Sheets" and many others.
Ernie Isley will always be the one who had the hookup and the one who knew how to use it.

I found this at an Isley brothers yahoo group. Ernie’s current effects are: Crybaby Wah, ProcoRat Distortion 2, Dunlop Rotovibe, Boss Flanger, and the roger mayer octavia. It makes since though. If you study his sound all of these are effects he uses. Peace

I was very luck to meet & talk with Ernie Isley twice. On stage he use Two Amps, A Mashall and Mesa boogie, effects he use 2 Pro Co Rat turbo,Roger mayer octava (same sound Jimi used on purple haze)
Dunlop Roto vibe, Boss flanger and just about
every effects there is. His Guitars are Custom made by Fender at a cost of about $8000.00 to
$7000.00 each. He is a very cool dude, Very down to earth, he even sign one of my guitars but Ron Isley was very cold. Maybe that why he is catching so much hell today. the Stroke, IRS etc.

: Also, I have been trying to get in contact with Ernie Isley, so that I can get some tips on how to improve my guitar playing style and picking techniques. If you have a mailing address, telephone number or e-mail address of Ernie Isley, please let me know because I would really like to speak with him. Thank you.

          Mike,
I went to an Isley Brothers concert back in 75 when the Fight The Power album was current. At that time he used from his guitar to his amp, a cry baby wa wa, a big muff, an octavia, and a meostro phase shifter. I belive a by pass switched was used so that when he had the big muff on, his signal was routed through to 2 Marshall amps. When it was off it was routed through to 3 accoustic phase amps. He had these amps in a rack, and used in conjunction with them, four Marshall cabinets with four 12" speakers in each one.
The pedal board which I’ve described can be seen on the back of the Go for Your Guns album. At the time of that 75 concert, the roadie told me that the octavia that he was using was one of just a few that were around at that time.
The one that he had then actually belonged to Jimi Hendrix at some time.

      1. Ernie Isley Gear
        Fred Fox

In my view: Ernie Isley is one of the best guitar players in the history of the instrument. Forget the gear; he just knows how to play and has awesome ears. You and I admire him, but we’ll very likely never be as good as he is. Fred

      2. Your best bet is to save up

Your best bet is to save up about $200, buy some Isley Brothers tickets while Ron and Ernie are still touring and make sure you get the ones that state (VIP meet and greet). That way you can get in a good 2 minute conversation before the next 65 VIP’s meet Ernie and Ron. How do I know? I just did exactly that for their February 2012 show!!! both are very down to earth.

Other that than just add Ernie Isley on facebook. He does have a real page (not a friend page, but a musician page) and he updates it quite frequently. He doesn’t seem to really respond back to facebook posters, although he did respond to me back when he had an actual “friend” page (now disabled).

If you want to play like Ernie just study his videos on youtube. Practice notebends and the pentatonic scale.. you’ll be fine

I went to see the Isley concert at the Fox Theatre in Detroit……Ernie Isley is a treasure. The man can flat out play electric guitar alongside the greatest. I was only disappointed that they didnt play some of their songs longer. They totally forgot "Harvest For The World" and one of my very favorites; "Hope You Feel Better Love." A great concert overall and Ronald Isley has not lost a thing, either.
