AWN 31
Serial Number 3.1927
Your guitar is a Brazilian made work of art with Spruce face, rosewood sides and back and could be a mahogony head that is anywhere from 35- to 40 years old. Prices for resale really depend on condition. Mint can run over a thousand while good can run $200-400.

This guitar was a wedding present bought at the Guitar Lady’s in the Virgin Islands. I’m wondering about the model and the it’s worth. I heard that it’s a prototype that never went into production because of it’s bright red color. There are supposed to be six made and I have number three. Has anyone who knows Gianninni guitars heard of this?
Thx,

:Ive got a like new ( really unplayed with original strings, case no scrathes Brazilian rosewood Gianinni classical made in 1962. Its really nice but I dont play it simply as I am concerned I might alter its perfect condition. I even have the music book bought at the same time. I was told that they dont make Brazilian Rosewood guitars anymore and like many want to know what its worth before I decide to even take it out its original case. The serial numbers indicate its from 1962 as does the music book in its case . Any Ideas onits value? I can send Photos if ya email me at [email protected]
What could I sell this guitar for? It’s in fair condition. It may be a small treasure as the unsubstantiated history of this guitar is that it was played at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s funeral in Atlanta, GA. It eventually wound up in the hands of a professor at Florida State University’s Music Dept, from whom I bought it in 1977.
Now disabled and unable to play, hairline 3 1/2 crack along base. Interested on selling, but need approximate pricing
Varnish a little battered have original soft case bought with it.
I have an Giannini Guitar #522 with manufacturer date as 4/65. How much is it worth? It is in good condition.

Recently had my well-preserved 30-year-old Giannini Craviola 12-string restored and amplified by a talented local luthier and have posted photos to the following website for anyone interested in several views of this delightful and unique musical instrument. good forum, really
Hello !
I recently bought two wonderful craviolas
A jazz model model: AWKS300 / J
serial 12 1979
model AWKS 300 / 6
serial hard to read … something like 11 902
I don’t care about their price … I will keep them at home for a
long time .. !o). Anyway kwnowing the price is sometimes interesting
just to know hore rare the bird is …so if you can …
Does anybody Can tell me more ? Date for the second ? Is it a Gibson PAF
on the ‘jazz’ model ?
i have a giannini 12 string does anyone have an idea of its worth thankyou
Dear Tony,
I recently bought a 12string giannini craviola from 1972(the same jimmy page had played once).Actually the manufacturer had made a compromise at building a guitar with an incredible sound character but very not one to last forever.therefor not many in good conditions have last – and it’s believed to be a rarity.I bought mine for 150 Euros in austria.some believe it’s been a great deal and the "survivors" would be woth almost the double of the price they’d been sold once (approx.350$today).
I’m not quite shure about this one,but actually it’s a beautyful old instrument, much worthier than the new editions. If you’re about to buy one, make shure the top is in good shape!you shouldn’t pay more than 250$.If you want to sell it…find someone who obviously is looking for the craviola,or vintage guitars from the 70’s.he will pay more.My advice is, better keep it,and be proud you have a still working rare beautyful one from past times!

I’ve had my Giannini Craviola 12-string for 30+ years, and after a recent restoration by a gifted luthier I would value it at a minimum of $300 dollars. I’m not interested in selling it, but a well-preserved Craviola, either 6 or 12-string model, should be worth at least that much to a collector of interesting instruments. The Jay Turser company has obtained the rights from Giannini of Brazil to produce a new version of the Craviola.
To me it is worth appr. 300 dollars.
Are you considering selling ?

Hi Ronnie,
I’ve had a Giannini craviola since the mid-70s. I haven’t got a clue what it’s worth now, either, and would love to know. Not many people seem to know about them. I wonder what ever happened to the manufacturer?
At any rate, I would guess it should be worth double to triple of the original cost, depending on when you bought it and what shape it’s in (?). I bought mine for CDN $150 in the 70s.

I recently moved and the movers destroyed the neck and strings of my Traquillo Giannini S.A. made in 1967 I was wondering where would be a good place to get an estimate either on line or in person so the movers can pay for the damage they caused.. Any knowledge would be appreciated.
Tragic! Your best course of action is to locate someone locally who can physically examine the instrument and give you an estimate. Try looking in the phonebook of the nearest major city under "Luthier" (one who makes, restores and repairs stringed instruments) or "Musical Instrument Repair." If you still can’t find help, email me with as much info as you can on the guitar and its condition and I’ll see if my local (and very gifted) luthier can give me a ball-park figure on what repairs would cost. And please folks, I’m trying to help someone here, so don’t spam my mailbox or I’ll have to change my email address. Thanks!

Max – I also have an AWN 300 in almost mint condition that I purchased new back in around 1975. This one is clearly handbuilt, which was one of the reasons I bought it. I am also trying to find out its worth. The serial # is 74 1974…so my thoughts are that it might have been made in November of ’74. It has beautiful matching splitface rosewood back and sides and a clear solid cedar top (or spruce?). I believe the rosewood is a laminate, yet you can also clearly see the matched splitface rosewood on the inside of this guitar as well. It has only the wood inlays front/back/sides; no abalone except position inlays along the topside of the mehogany neck.
Anyone knows what these are worth would be deeply appreciated!
Regards, Darrell

G’day Rene from DownUnda – I’m also interested in purchasing a Craviola – need a left hander – preferrably 6 string nylon electric but would settle on a metal string one. If anyone you’ve had a contact from has such a beast, could you kindly let me know. I had access to a couple 12 stringers in the late 70’s and my mates love them – but my needs are different. I n fact, I don’t even know if Giannini made lefthanders. Regards, Warren Targett.
Warren,
I bought a 1974 left handed, nylon string Craviola from Gruhn Guitars last year. It also has a pickup. If you’re interested in discussing further, send me an e-mail

You can go to the download tab and download the catelogs for the 710. It is Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, solid spruce top, rosewood fretboard and cedarwood neck.
They are not respected as very good guitars but some people like them. I would think being made out of the Holy Grail of tonewoods, rare at that, they could be all bad.
I have one, too. I’m looking to part with it for financial reasons and don’t know what to ask for it, since I received it as a gift many moons ago.

John I am interestd in the guitar, if its the goofy body shape, lets agree on a price
Last month I spotted a guitar propped up with the along with other trash at curbside in my neighboorhood while retriving the newspaper. I walked over, picked it up, peered in the hole and much to my suprise it was a 69 Giannini Classical. It was frost bit, the finish cracked and wrinkled from neglect, but there is little damage to the Brazilian wood and no holes anywhere. It looked as if it had the original strings on it and one of the tuners was broken. I cleaned it up, replacing the tuners and strings.
It stays in tune very nicely with 9’s but im going to 10’s shortly.
Never pass up a guitar sitting by the road. I previoulsly came into a 65 Archangel Fernandez that was going to the trash. It did look like trash, but The Guitar Salon in Manhattan gave me 1250.00 for it and that was 5 years ago.
Can you further identify this guitar ? I may have it now! eg. what was the case like, pegs etc ?

Message to Richard Z who posted the message re his 3 Giannini guitars. I’m trying to learn more about these guitars. Will you contact me via email.
I have 3 Giannini Guitars. My first is a 1974 Claviola, the tear shaped model with a cutout in the bottom that fits comfortably over your leg when sitting at play. It is Brazillian Rosewood laminated to more Brazillian Rosewood. I think it was done that way to strengthen the the guitar as the wood is very thin and the Guitar is very light. The Rosewood is absolutely gorgeous and I wish it could be seen from the front while being played. The Guitar resonates beatifully. I am the only owner and I paid $125.00 for it with case in 1974. I also have the nylon string traditional classical model. I don’t know what wood it is made from but it plays well and sounds good. I saw an ad in a local paper and bought it from a housewife who was trying to learn to play. I paid $50.00 with the understanding that she would not replace the broken strings. I also have a 12 String Claviola but it needs a neck reset and I have not chosen to have it repaired just yet. The 12 string model never stood up well. The top either pulls up from the string tension or the necks pull forward making them impossible to tune or play which is a shame because they sound like a harp. The Claviolas are VERY RARE but they do not command a good price in the collectors market at this time. I believe they are very under valued, especially the Brazillian Rosewood Guitars. The Classicals are very nice but they are probably going for around $250 to $350. I see Claviola’s going for between $400 & $600 which I think will be proven to be absurdly low in the future. I play my guitars so I am not really that concerned with the sale value other than as a point of interest. Maybe at some time sale price will be important to my children.

: I’ve got a Giannini. It came from my grandparents attic. Does anyone know anything about them. My model # is 900. The date is 9/66.
Michael, try http://www.giannini.com.br (Brasil). This site is in portuguese.
Hello, I’ve been looking for a model 900. Would you be interested in selling it?
: Hello, I’ve been looking for a model 900. Would you be interested in selling it?
Some years ago I said I was interested in selling this guitar if the price was right… I’ve come to realize that there is no price out there that could determine the value of this guitar. The vintage Brazilian Rosewood makes for such a deep resonant sound that I’ve never heard matched by any other guitar. Elvis Presley even used a Model 900 Giannini at times, though one from 1969. I’ve never seen a price for one of these vintage Model 900’s anywhere on the web in years of searching, and no longer look, as it’s so clear of the priceless nature of these classics, and this guitar personally holds great sentimental value to me. Did I mention I love hearing it’s warming tone as it’s played? 😉 peace all.
I also have a model 900 from 11/68. The varnish is crackled from decades of storage (not flaking whatsoever), but it is otherwise in great shape. I may be up for selling it if the price is right.

Its an accoustic steel string. Giannini is based out of Brazil, and yes it is brazillian rosewood.
They are one of the only manufacturers able to still use this protected tree.
You can’t buy them in the US anymore because they use some protected trees in the construction of their guitars.
There aren’t any more resellers in the states for them unfortunately.. at least that I’m aware of.
How much did you get it for… it might be a heck of a buy.
Anyone know what kind of guitar this is i think its braziliian rosewood. Cant find info anywere.
This popular thread has been given its own page : model AWN70 excellent condition
I just played an AWN70 today at Chicago music in Tucson. It was the nicest sounding thing they had in a solid top guitar and they had about 30 used solid wood nylon guitars (solid top andsome with solid back and sides). They wanted $450 for it. Ask someone who knows woods if the sides are cypress.
: I have a model AWN70 serial # 08-1974 in excellent condition. My wife purchased it for me in 1974 and I never played it. Just the other day my daughter showed interest and in having it strung and tuned, the owner of the store was very impressed with it being a Giannini. The numbers he threw around as to the price of a Giannini makes me want to know what value this guitar really has. My daughter will respect and care for it, but she is on 15 years old, and being 15 she is going to handle it as a 15 year old would.
: Sorry for the long story, but if anyone help me understand the value of the guitar it would be appreciated greatly.
