  3. Les Paul Pickups
    Mike Dix

I have two pickups from a very old Les Paul. The owner of the guitar was told by a collector in St. Louis that it may have been one of the first produced…my recollection was that it did not have a serial number. The pickups are in near-mint condition, complete with the original covers and backing plates. Anyone have an idea what they’re worth?

  4. Fender guitar appraisal needed
    Scott Loomis

I have a 1994 Fender Strat that I need appraised. It is a U.S. Deluxe version and it is also a Fender 40th Anniversary edition (it has an engraved plate on the back that says "40 years and still rocking"). It is in excellent condition and is a cool cobalt blue color that I never see. I did have the bridge pickup changed to a Dimarzio HotRails pickup. The other two are the Feder Lace Sensor pickups. I bought it for $500 many years ago.

  6. Need appraisal of Silvertone Archtop
    Brett

I own a Silvertone Archtop Acoustic guitar and need help in finding out what it’s worth. I can barely see a serial number inside the shell. The best that I can tell it reads: 769H 015. It’s very faded and hard to read. I wouldn’t mind paying to get it appraised, but only want someone if they truly know what they are doing. Someone with a Silvertone serial number index would be great. If anyone can help, let me know.

  7. Flamenco Guitar Appraisal
    M. Scott

I have a 1956 Archangel Fernandez flamenco guitar (good condition) w/ original case (good condition except needs new handle. It has a signed and dated label inside the soundbox. It was made when he worked in the shop of Marcelo Barbero’s widow, but clearly states that it was made by Fernandez. It has a personal inscription to a good friend on the label, although that person is not named. My father was the second owner of the guitar to the best of his knowledge. It was purchased by my mother as a wedding present from a neighbor who was an accomplished flamenco player and who had traveled in Spain extensively. It has spruce top and cypress sides and back as I have been told by my teacher. The neck is mahogany and the fretboard is ebony with nickel silver/german silver frets. It has a thin white plastic protector plate below the strings and a thin clear plastic protector above the strings. Tuning keys work fine and it plays very well. Any idea what the value of this instrument would be?

  9. FENDER LAP STEEL GUITAR
    JAMES THOMPSON

I HAVE A FENDER LAPSTEEL GUITAR. THE YEAR IS BELIEVED TO BE 1947.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHAT IT MIGHT APPRAISE FOR OR HOW TO FIND OUT?

    1. Re: Guitar Appraisal
      Stephen

It depends largely on whether its an MIII standard or deluxe. The MIII standards retailed for around $900 and are worth anything from $500 to $1500 depending on condition. The MIII deluxe was slightly more expensive so again depending on condition anything from around $800 to $2000 i reckon. The good thing about this guitar (or bad thing if your selling) is that it hasnt really increased or decreased in value, largely because so few people know it even exists.

Just keep your eyes open on eBay and on http://www.harmony-central.com. One will turn up. I see them fairly regularly. They just aren’t as populous as the ES-335s.

As an aside, I saw the other reply to the post. The older ES-347’s came with Series 7 pickups, which are Dirty Fingers pickups that are covered and potted in the gold covers. Other than that they are the same pickup. However, not long after the ES-347’s started production, they went to the Gibson "original humbucker" pickups which aren’t nearly as good in my opinion as the Series 7 (or Dirty Fingers). That’s what I got in my 1981 ES-347 that I bought from someone through Harmony-Central. If you get one and don’t care for the pickups, you can try a set of Seymour Duncan ’59s. They aren’t real pricey. In fact, you can find them used for about $50 each.

    1. Re: Gibson ES-347
      Chet

Sorry, but I just bought a ’79 ES-347 in sunburst for $1650.00 here in Atlanta. It was missing the brass nut but it was in very nice condition for a 24 year old guitar. The gold plate was of course faded and the back had some belt buckle scratches but the front is nearly perfect and the best luthier in Atlanta had just finished a new fret job on the thing. I felt like I may have overpaid by $100 or so but the way it sounds out of my January 1967 Fender Reverb, the $100 was worth it. This guitar is a forgotten and rare item but discriminating guitar people know its quality. It is every bit of a 335 with much nicer appointments and the Dirty Finger pickups plus the Sustain Sisters built into the thing make it better than any 335 ever built, well, maybe with the exception of Mark Knopfler’s collection of late 50’s/early 60’s 335s. Why the 335 costs more, who can tell. Sort of like everyone buying Mercedes Benz when that car line has lost its lead in quality years ago. Anyway, keep looking – they are out there. By the way, do you know where I can find an original brass nut for the 347 so I can restore this baby to its original specs?

: I recently acquired (in great shape, I might sdd), A lyle bass guitar. The thing is, I don’t know what I have bought. No visible serial no. (probably under pick guard), The body style is Gibson SG. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you,
      : Robert
I have one, but I’m on the internet to find out more about mine as well. Even thouigh I may not be able to help you, I would like to touch base (bass) to see if we have identical models. On the back, my neck is some sort of mahogany ( probably not spelled right – forgive me), possibly luan (again not spelled right, but luan is low grade Japanese mahogany). It has a rectangular chrome plate that holds the neck in place which has Made In Japan stamped on it. At the bottom of the neck near the body is botton for the strap. The tuner cases are chrome rectangular. Odd tuners – chrome, but hard to describe the shape. On the front, the machine head is black with cursive gold LYLE. The fretboard is normal rosewood with dots for fret markers. The body is red with a black pick guard. It has two white toggle switches. Next to the switches is a wooden finger rest. Beside that are four gold volume and tone knobs, two with Vs and two with Ts. It has two chrome pickups that adjust up and down, but have a tendency to sit in cock-eyed from front to back. The bridge is a simple chrome piece that has two large standard screws to adjust the height, and notches to hold the ball end of the string. If yours is the same, I can give you only the information of how I acquired it. My father purchased it for me on Christmas in, I think, 1971. He purchased it from a Lazarus department store for $99.95. I don’t know if you are familiar with lazarus, since I don;t know what part of the world you are from, but years ago, they carried toys, musical instruments, records, and all manner of other things. Now, they are pretty much a grossly, grossly, overpriced clothing store (ie: $135.00 for an IZOD banlon collared t-shirt). Concerning the bass, I don’t think they have much value, but it’s always nice to have even a bit of history. If you find out anything more, I would be interested in knowing. It was my first bass. I kept it in perfect shape. It looks exactly like the day I got it. My father bought me some of my early instruments. He bought me my first electric guitar. A Teisco Delray. i still have it and it is in very good shape as well. My first drum set was purchased by my mother and step-father. it is a rare Majestic Deluxe five piece with Zilco and Ludwig Stanople cymbals. Rare, because it has a 16×16 floor tom and 9×13 mounted tom. It is in perfect shape as well. Sorry to rattle on so long. I will put this page in my favorites to follow up. If you want to contact through the email address, be sure to put "Lyle Bass" in the subject line, or I will probably delete it because I won’t recognize it.

      Thanks,
      Michael Bauer

Hi! I saw one today in a instrument shop, and I really want it, and I think it might be close to the one your talking about. I didnt look at it very long, but you desribed it!!! The bass I saw had a hollowbody though, and it had kinda a shorter neck I think, but it sounds so nice!!! hows your sound? this one was very earthy and rich, like a stand-up,
Let me know, cause I want to buy it, but does $500 sound like too much? I dont know

I am researching the Starcaster and what I have turned up says that they were made from 1977 through 1982. Prices I have seen range from $500 to 1200 US. Hope that helps, if you want my sources of reference let me know.

Actually, Starcasters were made from 1975-1980 I own a 1976 Sunburst model. And the prices are closer to $1200 to $2000 for a good one now. And the prices are going up for them! I believe the original question was probably about a Stratocaster….
Now, if Mark really has an early 60’s Strat, I’d like to have that myself.

    1. Re: Martin D-42JC
      Steve

The Martin D-42 jc or as called the Martin Johnny Cash Guitar. Martin has now disclosed only 79 right handed and only 1 left handed have been made not the 200 posted inside the guitar. This would make the guitar rare and shows a high end price of over $8000.00 mint unplayed guitar and a net price if sold for that price being $6000.00 or if sold outright to a dealer of $4000.00 – $4500. But find one unplayed with tags and if not price will be starting at under $6000.00 to a dealer you would net less. Most dealers pay outright 60% to 65% of value and will 75% to 80% if you put on consign the guitar.

          1. I would be interested in your Martin J42BK if the price is reasonable. I have researched the pricing in both guitar price guides and have found the following: The 15th edition of the Blue Book of acoustic guitars has it listed as $4,750 to $5,500 in excellent condition. The 2016 Vintage Guitar Price Guide has it at $5,750 in high excellent condition. That said I would be willing to go up to the $6,000 – $7,000 range. Please let me know what you think.

  21. 50th anniversary Strat
    Tom

I came across a 50th anniversary Fender Stratocaster. This guitar is a vanilla color, instead of the sunburst it should be, and doesn’t have the gold hardware. With the neck off, the date of the body matches the neck. There is also a sticker tag with the name Jetza H.
How can I find out about this piece and what it may be worth?

Hi! I pulled the neck of my ‘97 American Standard Strat today and found a sticker with ‘jetza’ on it. I can’t seem to find any info on the web at all regarding this issue except your post from several years back. I would like to ask if you ever found out what it
      meant?

      Thanks a lot in advance!

      Jim

I have a Gibson J 45 that I learned to play on more than 30 years ago, which is in excellent condition all original. Mild checking on the face (which I understand is common) but the balance is all original, very beautiful, and shows very little evidence of use. The Serial number 803594 pics are available. Would sincerely appreciate help determining its value.

I’m owner of a Guild D25M what I bought new in 1977. I’m still playing on it (fingerpicking style). The sound is greate. However the laque is damaged a bit, the quality is still excellent. I tried many guitars passed years and the ones who can beat the Guild D25M I "think" is a Martin or Cole Clark. I live in Holland. If you want to see a bit of my Guild, look in the logo of our band. You can see it on http://www.freewebs.com/ssensual2/

My serial number does not fit in with the guild list of serial numbers.

: Anybody out there know what a 1977 Guild D25M in perfect condition with hard case is worth? I’m looking at a new Martin and may need to sell my Guild to offset the cost. Thanks, John
John. I have the same guitar too and absolutely love it. I paid $250 for it in 1981. I would not sell it myself. But that is just me.

      1. It’s sure not my business but…you’ll be sorry if you sell that Guild. I own a D25M from the late 70s and it blows away any guitar I’ve played including the overstated, overpriced Martin! If ytou can afford it why not keep the Guild and buy the Martin? Good luck,
        George

      2. Re: 1977 Guild D25M
        Steve

I’ve got somewhere around a 1981-83 Guild D25M. IMHO there is no adequate price. The tone is extremely rich and has mellowed over the years. It’s Brazilian rosewood, which isn’t free anymore. Priceless. Remember this is the guitar that Paul Simon played. I would not sell for any amount. But, I’m a musician.

    4. Re: 1977 Guild D25M
      Jeremie

Hi, I’ve got exactly the same model as you. I bought it in Australia in 1998 for AUD$1500. At the time they were worth about AUD$2500 new. I’m not sure what prices are like in the states, but they are not very common, and everyone that plays my guitar wants to buy it. If yours is in perfect condition, then it should sell for quite a bit.

I have a 77 guild d25m and just got it appraised. The as-is price was about $1000. After repairs(adjusting the neck, etc.), I was told it was worth about $1500. Please reply if u get any different prices.

If you get $1000 for yours, let me know right away. The most I’ve seen them go for is maybe $600. Just saw one sell on ebay for $475. Good luck and let me know how you do.

            1. Re: 1977 Guild D25M
              GuildGuy

I bought a d25m 1979 model and got it for $500 with a new case. It has a few very-very minor dings no cracking checking and all original down to the bridge pins. basicly they are fun guitars but definitely not as valuable as other guild models of the same age. I’ve seen them go for $750, and if you can get that much for it you’ve done well. Remember new these were not extremely expensive guitars and if you get $750 for it you’re more than doubling it’s original value.
