Alverez yairi DY75

I bought a DY75 in the late 70's. Looks like it was discontinued. Anybody know when and why?

Re: Alverez yairi DY75

According to the acoustic blue book they were originally made in the mid 70's but were also mfd from 1991 to 1995. I own a dy75 and it is a 1992. I love it!!

ID this guitar please

Hello folks! I have had this guitar since I was a kid in my early teens. She is a Alvarez Classic. Very pretty. These are the numbers inside her. Model # 5005 and serial # 470540
She has some beautiful scroll work at the top where the pegs are. I'm just curious. I have no desire to sell her or anything like that! Thanks folks!

OVATION GUITAR MODEL EA 68 VIPER BLACK

I'm looking to purchase either a new or good used Ovation EA 68 Viper Black Color Acoustic/Electric Guitar.

Apparently this model is no longer in production. However, it can be re-manufactured at the factory with a wait time of three months.

If anyone knows where I can find this particular model (new/used) other than a factory issue please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you.

Yairi DY77?

I had a Yairi in the mid-seventies that I think was a DY77. I remember the binding on the body was wood perhaps maple. Does anyone have any information on this guitar. I've been looking on ebay for one, but I'm not sure on the designation.

Thanks

: Thanks

i own a Yairi DY77. it was produced in 1975.

Re: Yairi DY77

I own a 1973 DY77. The guitar features a one peice top. book matched sides and back. The fretboard dots are abolone inlay fluer-dis-lis. This guitar action is like an electric, and the intonation is dead on all the way up the neck. Just thought you'd like to know.

I have no idea what the value of this one is.

I just bought a 1977 DY77 on Ebay for 400. When you compare what else is on th4e market for the same dollar amount, this is a steal. Great guitar.

Trying to Date my 60's Gibson Les Paul Custom

I purchased this guitar in 1974 and have owned it since then. I bought it privately and it was obviously a good few years old when I bought it, the seller told me that it was made in 1961.
This is when things get confusing - it is a black single cut-away Les Paul Custom, which according to Gibson ceased manufacture in 1960, yet the serial number is 190649, which indicates it was made in 1964, but this model wasn't made that year! Also it has 3 pickups and all gold hardwear, which match the spec on a 1961 double cut-away, SG shape - without the vibrato.
Can anyone help me out with this?

From 1970-1975 the method of serializing instruments at Gibson became even more random. All numbers
were impressed into the wood and a six digit number assigned, though no particular order was given and
some instruments had a letter prefix. The orange labels inside hollow bodied instruments was discontinued
in 1970 and were replaced by white and orange rectangle labels on the acoustics, and small black, purple
and white rectangle labels were placed on electric models.
In 1970, the words "MADE IN USA" was impressed into the back of instrument headstocks (though a few
instruments from the 1950s also had MADE IN USA impressed into their headstocks as well).

indicate the year, 99=1975, 00=1976 and 06=1977, the following six digits are in the 100000 to 200000
range. MADE IN USA were also included on the transfer and some models had LIMITED EDITION also
applied.

K. yairi DY 39, 1988

Is there any one who now how much a K.Yairi DY 39, 1988 is worth?
please write a E-mail to me....

1980 Gibson ES-335 CCR

This "vintage sunburst" 335 is my favorite, all-time guitar. I put "vintage sunburst" in quotations because, growing up, back in the day, this Gibson finish was called a tobacco sunburst. I guess we can't do that anymore since tobacco is incredibly politically incorrect.

Rant aside, this is ALWAYS the guitar I pick up for doodling, then again for polishing a finished product before I go into a studio session or onstage. While it is more fragile than my solid bodies, and I hesitate to lug the 335 around to free-for-all jam sessions, I will do so if it isn't raining or the middle of August.

My 335 stays in tune and is wonderful to look at- propped up on a sturdy stand in my living room. His name is Albert. Go figure.

While the new ones I play in Bay Area music stores have the "look and feel" there is something to be said for holding an axe that has been around over 20 years, you know? Kind of like some of the stories can pour out along with my own riffs.

Kazuo Yairi-Alvarez CY118 Serial Number / Year Question

Dear Classical Guitar enthusiasts:

I own a Kazuo Yairi Alvarez Classical Guitar Model CY118. I am getting ready to sell it because I recently purchased another fine guitar. I cannot remember whether I purchased the Yairi in 1997 or 1998. The Serial No. is 52508. If anyone knows anything about the Yairi-Alvarez serialization system, I would really appreciate it if you would let me know how it works and what year this guitar was made. I have tried but to no avail so far. Thanks in advance and please also reply to phaddock4@cox.net.

Respectfully

Paul Haddock

P.S. I am getting ready to place this up for bid on Ebay and a smart person could avoid paying my increased cost of listing the guitar by contacting me directly, before I post it next week. It is in mint condition. Pictures at http://www.bigpicture-bible-handbook.com/Yairi-AlvarezClassicalGuitar.html

your guitar was made in May 08, 1952. If it is an acustic they were all hand made and one of a kind.

K. yairi YM2

I have just got a yairi ym2 it is gorgeous with a lovely cedar top with waht i think is rosewood back and sides. however i cant find any info on it any were. it isnt listed on any websites i have come across. if anyone has any info please reply to this message or drop me an e-mail . cheers

Re: K. yairi YM2

Hello,! Would you want to sell your YM-2 ?
Thanks!
mm

Re: K. yairi YM2

Hey, I also bought a ym-2

Ym is for Yairi Master series and I got Mine in '96
The sides and back are ovaonkal (SP?) it's a great tone would from africa. Yairi bought it almost all up and so it's quite rare
Great guitars- very light with a warmer cedar tone than the bright spruce top guitars- hope this helped

Re: K. yairi YM2

Since your last message, have you learned anything more about the YM2? I can't seem to find much info. "Heard" that they were only made 1995-98. The "YM" designation is also unusual. Since there so few YM2's around (any idea how many?), it is very difficult to compare them. How would you describe the sound of yours, perhaps compared to some well-known instruments?
Paul

Is this DY92 a Dreadnought,(the standard "box" guitar)or is it the "Lute" version(Bubble Shaped Back-built of strips of exotic wood with the stain(finish)a deep rich color in the center and darkening near the edges with a suede leather pad on the lap curve(where the guitar is rested on the thigh or leg).

I have been looking for this particular "Lute Guitar" for many years. If this is the Guitar you have would you send me a courtesy e-mail just to let me know what you intend to do with the instrument.

I have searched for information extensively on this guitar(Alvarez-Yairi Lute DY92) and once many years ago I saw a price guide listing a "Very Fine Condition" one at $1,990.00. If its the "Lute" its still very much worth it as is the Dreadnought.

I know that it sold for as much as $2,300 as far back as 1981. They (Alvarez-Yairi)have built these in limited production since 1976 but ended production in 1993.

Once again, if you would, please send me an e-mail to know what happens with it or what you intend to do.

Retail prices thorugh internet sites Im seeing around $125-159 and through auction sites as low as $60. Ive checked prices on mine for nearly 6 years now and the price will still fetch $125 if you're savvy. Me? I have another model but similar, my 1st guitar, so why part for $100. I'll keep it now and pass it on. Now offer $1000 and we'll talk. LOL.

Yairi DY48

I love this 1983 Yairi. It's been all over the world with me and I've used it in solo acts in Japanese coffee houses, as well as in blues and rock bands and just for my own playing pleasure. I bought it new and I thought it pricey at the time, but now, after 18 years of lugging it around the world and the intonation is still perfect and the sound is still right on, well, it's my baby. My husband has recently started picking up guitars. The Yairi is his first choice when he lays down the Les Paul I bought him to learn on. Beginners to experienced pickers- this is an amazing piece of work. Thanks Yairi and rock on!

Yairi DY73CS, 1983 ser# 50533

I'm a novice guitar player. I lucked-out with buying for $300, a DY73CS. + to ++ condition. Amaaaazzzing sound. Incredible overtones. Does anyone know anything about this guitar?

Re: Yairi dy 73 CS

This guitar has a solid spruce top. Back and sides are mahogany. (not solid) Ebony fingerboard and ebony bridge, bone nut and saddle. The CS stands for cherry sunburst finish. Not many were made as they were quite pricey when new. (lots of abalone inlay) You got a great guitar at a super price.
