I started taking guitar lessons in 1977 and the Alvarez #5023 was my first guitar. In fact, I've bought three guitars since then, but I keep coming back to my acoustic. I've had some work done over the years, in particular, have had the action lowered a couple of times. It's been a great guitar and when freshly strung, sounds immaculate. I think my Dad paid about $175 or $275 for it in 1977. Don't know the present value, but when I go to Samuel Music, their acoustics sound and feel like crap compared to the Alvarez. So, my non-professional opionion is that they would go for $500-$600 in this day and age. Hope that helps.
