I’m looking for a vintage Gibson lyre vibrato with tremelo arm. They came on Firebirds, Flying V’s, and SG’s from the 60’s on. I need silver one with or without tailpiece or a gold one with tailpiece. Preferably vintage but will buy newer items. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

: Anybody know if Kahler is still in business? I need Trems and Parts and recommendations where to find?

I had to get a new locking nut about five years ago and had the guitar repair guy I go to call Kahler for one. He found out that they now make golf clubs. They did have a box or two of odds and ends and I was lucky. Your best bet is to go to Ebay and search for a cheap Carvin or Kramer and salvage the tremelo off that. Or you could try and get someone to machine the parts for you.

      Good luck.

I just bought a B.C.Rich guitar with a Kahler Trem on it. I do believe it is a Kahler Spider from the little research I have done so far. If you guys know anything about these guitars & trems, like when they were made, or anything else unique about them, Please email me at [email protected]

        perfesser blue

Kay made the Old Kraftsman for the Spiegel Catalog. I understand that Gibson may have made some earlier ones, I have not verified this. I have an old OK, I dont know when it was made, but I love its sound and action. I think this is a great warhorse for the vintage guitar lover. Mine has been to Africa and back with me, and all over the American West. A keeper.

          Andrew

I have one that my dad used to play until the neck came loose. Had a repaired about 10 years ago and it was good as new. Definitely a keeper. My next repair must be the tuning keys. The are original but have dried out and are crumbling. I have not located a good source for those.

  7. Kapa Continental
    Terry Browne

I have a 60’s Kapa Continental solid body guitar (strat style body with tremelo/tailpiece combonation). I’m trying to find an original saddle bridge for it. Also needs original machine heads. If anyone has either please email me. Because of their rareity I’m not even sure what the saddle bride looks like exactly. If you have this guitar and can send me a good large picture of it that will help me choose a bridge close to the original and/or be able to recognize one if I come across it that would be very helpful.

what a great guitar. problems with vibration because of the bridge and tremblo. good luck finding a replacement for your very rare guitar. bridge is adjustable and placement is important for sound quality.

I found a good source of Kapa data in the book Guitar Stories, Volume One A History of Cool Guitars by Michael Wright. He had a chapter on Continental with several pictures and some good info. I just placed my 12 string continental on ebay today and was doing some research on it when I stumbled across this book.

If you find anything please let me know. I need bridge for a Kapa as well. There is a picture of one on ebay right now. Selling for 300 so far. Problem is that the pins are 2.5 inches apart where most replacement bridges are now 2 7/8 or so.

: : Looking for Model 6119 pickguard (1968?) Chet Atkins Tennessean hollowbody with fake f holes. Send price and describe guard and condition. Thanks.

Guitar Center in Milwaukee has one hanging on the wall, under glass. Appears to be in exellent condition. They have I belive a $3,200.00 price tag on it. It has the single coil pickups. I think they call them Hi Low Tron. I have one but it’s a player. If you ain’t gonna play it get rid of it. I bought mine new In 1967 for I believe $300.00. Nice little mark up. Guitar center in Shaumburg Ill. had one at one time. Claimed it was original but I knew it couldn’t be because it was fretted over the binding. At that time Gretsch fretted the guitar then installed the binding the pulled a wire down the edge of fret board to remove excess binbing material. Which left the binding the same hight as the fret wire where thet meet.

I was looking for Kingston Bass parts earlier. I didn’t notice I had typed Kingston rather than Kraftsman. I should have edited it before sending. I’m typing with one hand because I broke myself up pretty bad falling off the house recently.

: I have an OLD KRAFTSMAN guitar w/ 3 pickups. The guitar is a poor Les Paul copy with a long metal parallelogram pickguard with criss-cross lines on it. The 3 pickup covers are attached to the pickguard but inside there are no actual pickups. They are missing. I’ve looked hard but can’t seem to find a pickup that would fit inside the covers. Would someone please give me some ideas as to where to look/find/buy some pickups that could fit inside the coverplates? The dimensions of the covers are 1-3/16 inches by 2-3/4 inches. I appreciate your help with this, thanks alot, jack

        Jerry

:I have a two pick up Kingston electric. Bridge pick up was open. I heated the cover enough to melt the wax and replaced it a similiar size coil and magnet from an old guitar from Japan. Heated the cover and inserted the pick up. You can add bees wax or candle wax to secure it well. The levels of the two pick ups are different. I may rewind the old pick up. I have enjoyed playing the guitar and think about replacing both the pick ups with humbuckers or put one single coil pick up out of phase with the other. The guitar has a nice neck and sounds good with a good set of strings on it. Go to a local guitar shop and ask if the could salvage some pick ups from some broken guitars for you. Some shops have junk boxs of good guitar parts. Good luck!
Be well and all great days,
        Jerry

I just acquired a 65 KAPA 12 string that will need to have a nut made. With the zero fret the notch depths aren’t as critical, but string spacing would be. Would anyone mind getting me some accurate measurements of a nut they are happy with, that I might make a good one? Thanks in advance.

I own a 1965 Kapa Challenger. Everything is original and it is in awesome condition. The pickups on this thing are amazing! They sound like nothing else I’ve ever played. This is the one guitar I would not sell. I had 3 other Kapa’s about a year ago but I sold them. Now, I am kicking myself for doing it. I’ve read other newsgroups where people say Kapa’s are crap. Obviosly, they’ve never played one.

True. Mr. Veneman imported them from Japan and the name comes from the initials of the family’s first names:
              Kobe(not sure of the spelling), Adele(spouse), Patricia(daughter), Albert(son).

I knew them in the 70’s.

:I bought a Kapa Continental solid body elctric in 1968. I still have it and still love it. I was told that the man who started Kapa worked for Gibson for a while designing pickups. He quit because they wouldn’t listen to any of his ideas for the ultimate guitar. He then worked for Fender designing pickups and quit there for the same reason. He thought the ideal guitar would be a Fender body and neck with Gibson electronics and he started Kapa to make his ideal guitar. I think he did a great job but Kapa only lasted 5 or 6 years. I never could find out if they went out of business or were bought out by another company. I have been searching for Kapa guitars and information about the company for years and I have had no luck at all.

I just found out about this site. I have a 1963 KAPA Challenger which I found at Ziggy’s in PHX, AZ when I first started out with my 60’s bands, The Blazers and West Side Gang. Got drafted, went to NAM, never got back into the mainstream again. It was $100 and, of course, brand new. My mother bought it for me. I used to have the original printed documentation and brochure for the Challenger. There were 2 models at that time on the brochure and it was a brand new company. I believe the second model had 3 Pickups instead of the 2 on the one I bought. I believe th 3 picup model was $130. For years, I wondered what happened to KAPA and never saw another one…. I still have the guitar, neck is perfect and plays hotter than any strat I’ve ever had. Rivals Les Pauls. Tremelo bar was never much to write home about, though… Vic West, Tucson, AZ

I have a Kapa Continental solid body guitar. It is similar to a Strat in shape. It’s thinner and smaller than a strat (like 3/4 size). It’s a cool looking guitar and what little I have found about them they are very cool sounding guitars. Mine is missing the saddle bridge and machine heads so I have a real challenge in finding original parts for it.

I have a Kapa series 500 hollow body with a melita bridge and it is a hollowbody that i think is as good if not better than any Gibson i’ve used. The company Kapa started in the 60’s and was bought our in the 70’s . They were made in Maryland.

      1. Lots of rumors, not many facts
        Witness

        Note to Fractal Queen-
Kapa guitars were not imported from Japan, as you claim. The Kapa factory was located on 46th Avenue in Edmonston, Maryland. Bodies and necks were made there, paint was applied, accessory parts were installed, strings were installed and final polishing was performed. I was raised in that town (on 49th Avenue) and was in that factory building on many occasions (frequently at times when it was closed).
Mr. Venaman, creator of Kapa, owned a couple retail music stores in Silver Springs and Wheaton, Maryland before, during and after his short-lived effort to build Fender-quality guitars at reduced prices.

I have one, but the logo is gold, not black. I don’t think they ever made one with a black logo. It’s new, a slight bit of the "g" is missing (must have chipped off) but hardly noticeable and in great shape. Contact me if interested.
