  4. Gibson rare model information
    Till

    Hi folks!
In the 70’s or 80’s Gibson built a guitar looking like the T-Bird Bass, but the headstock was different. It looked like the headstock of a Les Paul. Does anybody know the name of this model?

  6. Japanese whammy
    Paul Killeen

Can anyone help me find a source for flat chromed steel whammy bars typical of many of the 1960’s Japanese electrics (the ones with toaster pickups and lots of switches)? Many of these, offered for sale on Ebay, have everything but the bar itself. I need the bar, the Bigsby-type spring and the plate that bolts to the tailpiece and sets against the spring.

  7. Looking For Info On A Guitar
    Greg

My uncle purchased a guitar between 1964 and 1970,after he died it sat in my Aunts basement til she gave it to me in 1985,It played ok but I didn’t know much about guitars then and totally screwed up the pickups and switches on it when I took it apart to clean it,since then I’ve wanted to restore it,I have many parts and I’m getting ready to paint it,but I would like to know a little history on it,and hopefully restore it with original parts.
It didn’t have a name or any writing on it,underneath the face plate there was some Asian writing, which leads me to believe it may have been made in Japan or China or wherever,I was gonna scan the writing but the plate is long gone.I recently contacted my Aunt who told me he bought the guitar at Firestone’s Department Store in Gadsden Alabama.I would very much appreciate anyone who may have a site in mind where I can look this thing up and find out something about it.
It was a standard size guitar, with 3 pickups,a tremolo bridge, and instead of a toggle switch for the pickups it had 6 buttons on the top of the plate to select the pickups.
Here is the only pic I could find of it, http://www.geocities.com/dawg_bytez/guitar.html The scan and the cropping job leaves a lot to be desired, but hopefully it’s good enough to tell something about it.I’ve tried Teisco and Eko and found similar buttons on Eko guitars but have yet to find one like this one.

    Thanks In Advance,
    Greg

      Paul Killeen

: Greg, you are dealing with one of dozens of Japanese electrics that traded on the same basic principles– 3 or 4 single coil pickups, and lots of switches that let you put them in and out of the circuit. I have a Greco, a name for Jap guitars made to imitate the best-known brands, It is wired with a complex array of switches that let you mix and match the bass and treble side of these gigantic l-shaped pickups. Look on Ebay, and you will see a lot of what you have. Look for Teisco, Greco, Kent, Kapa, Prestige, or no name at all.

I have a 1967 Kapa Continental 12-String electric. It has a natural finish with a cream colored pick guard. I’d like to sell it to someone who collects Kapa. I like the guitar but don’t have any use for it. I needs a little work. The body is in good shape and everthing works fine on it but it may need new wiring soon. Some minor fix ups on the fret board are also needed. Some of dots on the fret board have sunk in and need to be replaced. The price is $150. Thanks

HI! This post is about 9 years after your post but i hope that it finds you well. I re-did my dad’s kapa acoustic… I am so surprised at the amazing sound that this acoustic holds. I was googling it to see how much it is worth and if i should hold on to it or trade it in. after finding out that the factory was in maryland (i live in pasadena, md) i think that i am going to keep it. if anyone does know how much an old kapa acoustic is worth… please let me know…

      Thanks and best of luck!

      1. Kapa Wildcat Sunburst
        JON B ALLASIA

Hi, was feeling nostalgia about my Kapa Wildcat I once had. I remember in 1966 walking down a street with my dear ole dad in Oakland, CA and he stopped in front of a store window, and there was a brand new Kapa Wildcat sitting in the window. He then asked me if I liked that guitar, I said oh yea, it really reminded me of a Strat and it had the 3 humbucker pick up’s with the tortoise pickguard in a very pretty tobacco sunburst finish.
Well not thinking more about it and I think the price tag said $165, anyway a few weeks passed by and low and behold my father came home with the Kapa Wildcat and I was blown away, what a cool guitar! It played like a dream and sounded fat with the humbuckers, it was a excellent build with solid quality parts as good as the Fender models back in the day. My hat goes off to your Grandfather for a great USA guitar line.

    2. Re: KAPA GUITARS
      Patricia Veneman Stone

As the "P"in KAPA, I would just like to say that the story posted here by Tara Miller Veneman is pure fabrication. I do have a cousin named Tara, whose father was my father Koob’s younger brother; she says she did not write this.
The real story is that my father opened Veneman Music in Silver Spring, MD in the 1960’s. He is the sole creator and manufacturer of KAPA guitars. KAPA stands for Koob, Adeline (my mother), Pat (me) and Albert (my brother, aka Ted).
Unfortunately my father passed recently. He deserves to have the record set straight. Thank you, Pat Veneman Stone

      1. Great Guitars
        Todd

Not sure why anyone would want to fabricate that story but like you I would have set the record straight. KAPA was a great guitar. I had one form the mid to late 60’s a 12 string electric. It was brought back to my memory tonight and I have googled for the past couple of hours trying to find one.
I think I found the twin, by the way, to that one and looking into buying it.
It had a great sound easily played and I would love to own another one.
Thanks to your father for making such an amazing awesome axe and leaving a equally great legacy..
Guitarists around the country benefitted from that product!.

      2. Koob Veneman
        Marc Connelly

I worked for Koob Veneman in the late 60s and early 70s. I managed the Wisconsin Ave. store and the short lived Greenbelt Mall store for a short time. He was a fantastic boss and mentor. I have owned and operated several companies since leaving Veneman Music and Koob’s lessons followed me throughout my life.
The Veneman family genuinely appreciated all we did as employees and I have fond memories of the employee parties held at their home and especially one Christmas dinner held at the Hula Hut in Silver Springs (1970ish) (To this day I wonder how we all got home.)
We worked long hours and very rarely sat down during the work day. But Koob paid a good wage, provided health insurance, and profit sharing. We got paid vacations and sick days.
Both of my children were born while I was working for Koob. Both children received gifts from Koob and Adeline (Mrs. Veneman) If memory serves, at Christmas parties held at their home the children all got gifts as did all the employees. The Veneman’s really understood if you treat employees well they will happily work those long hours.

If Patty reads this….Are you still skiing?

      3. Veneman guitar
        Nol van Bennekom

I just bought an old 4-string tenor-guitar, made bij A. Veneman in The Hague (The Netherlands). It belonged to Lia Dorana, a very famous actress en lady-singer in Holland. She bought the guitar in 1938 to perform in the Tuschinski Theatre in Amsterdam with the famous gypsy orchestra of Gregor Serban. The guitar must have been quite new at that time. I think that A. (Albert) Veneman is your grandfather. As you probably know your grandfather founded the brand AMKA, but he also made guitars named Muziekhandel A. Veneman wich is on a sticker inside my guitar. Lia Dorana died in 2010 92 years old.

        It’s a small world.

As family you will you probably know, dat de Dutch founder of AMKA guitars was the grandfather of Kobe and Albert. His name was also Albert and he was marries to Madeleine. Albert, Madeleine, Kobe and Albert were de christian names that made de brand name AMKA. Albert was a violin maker but he started in 1938 with guitars, as Kobe advised him and insisted to do so.

I just noticed that I wrote earlier dat Albert sr. in Holland was the grandfather of Koob and Albert. That was wrong of course. Albert sr. was the father of Koob en Albert. In the interview with Koob (with is on film on internet) september 9 2005 Koob tells about his father and his father brand AMKA (Albert, Martha, Koob and Albert jr). Ik just bought an original AMKA guitar, made just after World War II, when Koob was still in Holland in the business at his fathers small factory in Holland.

Hi, Tara. I just saw this post today. I purchased equipment from Veneman’s in Silver Spring, and I lived in Hyattsville during the 50’s till 2000’s. When I was a teen, the Kapa factory in Hyattsville (really closer to Edmonston) was withing walking distance, and we would routinely look through the dumpsters to try to find parts.
We would swap parts with each other, and somehow, I came into posession of a Minstrel Bass (teardrop) in sunburst) with no neck. I also have a Minstrel guitar neck with no guitar. The Kapa neck was known for being extremely thin and fast. One of my band mates played a Kapa Continental. I have fond memories of Veneman’s and Kapa.

The KAPA plant was not only “really closer to Edmonston”, it was IN Edmonston. In fact, it was on 46th avenue (probably the 5200 block), North of Hamilton Street. It was, essentially next door to a friend’s (FB’s) house.
I was raised on the 4900 block of 49th avenue in that town and visited the KAPA dumpster quite often. Might even have run into you there.
Long time since your post but, if you see this, shoot me a note at tejasbullet(at)dcemail(dot)com

          2. Veneman's store in Silver Spring
            Don Frat

I remember playing a Kapa guitar when I was a kid just starting to learn to play. I wanted one as they were great instruments! However, I was given a Harmony acoustic for Christmas instead. The Kapa was superior to the Harmony, but as a kid I was thrilled and thankful just to have a guitar of any kind. Later, I became a frequent visitor to the store in Silver Spring and was saving my allowence to buy a guitar just like what Chet Atkins played, a Gretsch Country Gentleman. I still remember it hanging from the ceiling, along with some other guitars. I did finally buy one from your dad with great joy! I still have and love that guitar.

I wish I had more information concerning those marvelous Kapa guitars. I’ve only seen pictures of them since I grew up and never got to play one. I was excited to discover your site on the internet! As a 12 year old, I only remember wanting an electric guitar.

I would DEEPLY appreciate if you could email me a picture of the store if you happen to have one!! Downtown Silver Spring has change dramatically over the years! Getting older has made me a sentimental person and I’d love to see the store that meant so much to me!

            Respectfully,
            Don

I am sort of at a loss of what you are wanting. It appears you want to purchase and also that you just want to hear from owners concerning history.
Not sure but the history is easy to find. I have a Kapa Challenger that I purchased some years back and the pickups are dead. I am going to replace them with some very similar ones since original parts are not available.
I personally think this BEAT UP old KAPA is a much better instrument than my other, more expensive guitars. I would not take a $1,000.00 for mine. Don’t know who owned it in the 60’s but it is a road worn beauty, dinged, scratched, chipped etc but that is the way us older pro’s know we’ve found a quality guitar, when it’s been played to death and then (not re-finished) Revived, leaving it as it is except fixing (replacing) the pickups, then i’m gonna play it to death again. (well, at my age, maybe it will play me to death. Was glad to see your notice, good luck with whatever it is you seek to find, but no true musician could part with one of these.

I had a 12 string electric back in the mid 60’s. such a nice guitar….it was blue and shaped like the one Brian Jones had with the Stones…I sold it in 1970.

      Hi Tara,

I know you posted this quite a few years ago and probably have received many responses. have you talked to Koob about this at all?

My first guitar was a Kapa, so I ahve a special affection for the brand. A few years later, 1968, I bought my first new guitar from Koob at his Bethesda Veneman music store, a Givson SG standard. Many years after that, I designed the corporate headquarters office building in Gaithersburg, MD for Koob, and got to know him through that process. I also dealt with two of his sons during that process, but really don’t remember them that well. I currently have three Kapa guitars in my vintage guitar collection, and will probably be selling two of them since I found one I particularly like.

Hello. I stumbled across this site quite by accident, and would like to ask anyone about the value of a Kapa guitar I own. I do not play, but inherited a Kapa Wildcat guitar some years ago. This guitar was owned by an elderly uncle who never really used it much. It is in absolutely perfect condition, no scratches, dings, or dents. It came to me with a velvet lined hard case, and I believe it is stone cold OEM in every aspect. It just seems such a waste for it to sit in the closet, so I finally decided to sell it. I believe it was manufactured in the late 50’s, or early 60’s. I have seen an estimate of between $300-$600, but do not know how old this information was.. or if it was indeed accurate. I would appreciate any info from someone who has expertise in this area would care to share. Thank you, Tony

    9. Re: KAPA GUITARS (What about the Acoustic)
      Ken Kalman

Everyone keeps writing about the KAPA electric guitars. I have a 6-string acoustic that I bought at the Georgia Avenue Venemans store some time between 1968 and 1970. I would love to find out more about it (such as where it was made, etc). It has a sunburst finish and looks like a Gibson (if Im not mistaken, I think KAPA once had a bit of a legal problem because its headstocks looked too much like Gibson headstocks.) I think I paid about $70.00 for it. In view of how long I kept this guitar, I wish I paid the $20.00 more that it would have cost to get it with a solid wood top instead of the laminate that I have. It probably would have sounded like a Stradivarius by now. Nevertheless, although the Kapa is my cheapest and oldest guitar, I dont think I would ever part with it – it has become an old friend, a reminder of the days when "mom and pop" music stores were de rigueur, and a reminder of my childhood in Silver Spring, Maryland. In all the years I have had this guitar, the only problem I ever had with it was the need to iron out a bump around the 12th fret some time in the mid 1970s. That work was done by Marty over at Chuck Levins Washington Music in Wheaton Maryland. I am sorry that I dont recall his last name at this moment, but I do remember him as being quite a character. He was gruff and slightly intimidating, but there was a time when it seemed like everyone had their guitars repaired by Marty.

I similarly cannot find any info on this guitar, I got it from my grandparents house. It may have been my uncles guitar bought around the same time. Have you found out anything since you last posted?

Steve here. Have seen a lot of talk on this site so far about electric models. I am wondering what my model is and where it came from? This guitar was given to me by a friend that was given the guitar by his uncle. I now have a Kapa Acoustic standard dreadnaught Serial # 360 and Model # A710, made in Japan. Is this a guitar built by your family? I can send pictures if you would like. Beautiful guitar, with excellent ivory inlays, and sounds fantastic.

      Thanks for your help.

      Scott

Hi, my name is Scott and i’m replying to your request for information on Kapa Guitars. I have become interested in Kapa Guitars, but there is not alot of information out there. Other than some being sold on Ebay very rarely, the only other information i have found is from a book : "Electric Guitars – The Illustrated Encyclopedia" :

"Capitalizing on the early-1960’s guitar boom, Kapa guitars were the brainchild of Dutch immigrant Kope Veneman of Hyattsville, Maryland, and were launched around 1963. Known for ultra-thin necks and an unusual 12-string vibrato, Kapa launched its first offset-shape solid bodies with the Challenger model name.
Thinner-body Continental models appeared in 1966. However, names were used indiscriminately on many models. The Hofner-style pickups were mostly made by Kapa itself. Kapa’s popular Minstrel teardrop-shape guitars were introduced in 1968, and Japanese thinlines and solidbodies (plus oriental hardware) began to appear in 1969. A very few all-Japanese guitars appeared near Kapa’s end, in 1970, when parts and equipment were sold to Micro-Frets and Mosrite."

So far this has been all i can find. in the book it shows a 12 string Kapa Continental (i got the book at Borders for $10) so if you haven’t seen it, it might be cool to check out.

I don’t know how much information you have recieved on your grandfathers company, but one thing that i am very interested in but so far have not found is a schematic or blueprint type diagrams or drawings of some of the guitars. I want to build a kind of modern version of a Kapa Continental, but still stay true to its original body style, specs, etc… and pictures just aren’t good for this. So, any information you can forward to me would be very appreciated if this is something you don’t mind doing, and if you have any questions for me, or about the artical, or guitar parts (sorry, i have no clue how much you know about guitars) descriptions, etc, please let me know.

      Thanks,

      Scott

I left Silver Spring in 1970 when I joined the Navy and I alway wondered what happened to the store and to all of the wonderful guitar’s that your family produced. They are great guitars. Dear Tara- If you have not as yet gotten answers to your request for information about KAPA electric guitars and basses of the late 60’s I would be very surprized. The history of KAPA guitars is documented in books. The vintage instruments themselves are (even now) available for sale in various places including one business in Calif., which has about 4 for sale currently. I bought a Kapa Challenger in 1964 at Veneman’s. I still have the guitar and the hardshell case and the original bill of sale. The guitar is excellent and I would never part with it. I used it many years in a band from 1964-1969. The Challenger is the sunburst version with the whammy bar and dual pickups. Your family produced a great guitar. It’s too bad it didn’t become more popular back then. It was a great value for the money.

: I bought a Kapa Challenger in 1964 at Veneman’s.
O my god your family did produce great guitars. I am just getting started playing and I have an all original KAPA Continental. If you would like I could send you some pics of it, It’s from 1966.

In response to Tara Veneman- I remember Kapa guitars quite well. Like many in the 60’s, I belonged to a garage rock band, and bought my equipment (which I still own) at Veneman’s Music store on Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. I lived in Hyattsville, Maryland, within walking distance of the Kapa guitar factory in the Hyattsville industrial park near Edmonston. We would walk to the factory occasionally and look through the discarded parts thrown away outside for things we could use. Through trading with friends, I aquired a Minstrel guitar neck and sunburst teardrop body, which I still own. I would like to make a re-creation of this guitar someday if I could find a picture of the original. One of the members of our band played a Kapa, but I cannot remember which model. Please contact me.

My first electric guitar was a Kapa Continental six-string. Over the past few years I’ve kicked myself more than a few times for parting with it. The neck and action were extraordinary! And the pickups were great. It was not only extremely easy to play, it had a great sound!

Hi! I have a KAPA Continental 12-string electric that I bought around 1968 or so. I don’t know that I’m interested in parting with it, but just stumbled on your message while browsing around. I just thought it interesting to hear from a descendent of the company founder. I also noticed a KAPA guitar (different) being sold on eBay. If you read this, please email me if you would like to talk about the guitar.

      1. Year of KAPA 500 Series
        Pditty70

Hello everyone. I have just received this beautiful KAPA 500 Series for Christmas. I see that the serial # is 24419. Can anyone tell me what year this guitar was made?

      2. Albert Veneman Sr.
        Rick

I was friends with Albert Veneman Sr. beginning in the 60’s until his passing. Originally the business was names Albert’s Jewelry and Loan. The original location was on Long Beach Blvd next to the old West Coast Theater which was just east of Long Beach Blvd. When the building was demolished the business was relocated to Pine ave about 3rd St. Then when that building was demolished to build to the old Long beach Mall the business was Moved to a location further north on Pine Ave. It then moved to Long Beach Blve. Albert was quite a character and practical joker. He knew Marshall arts and had been a wrestler in the old country. Not the fake kind but the kind of wrestling they do in the Olympics. He loved to drink beer and play Foosball during after hours. As I recall his son took over the business after Albert’s passing.

      3. Kapa bass parts
        John

Sometime around 1968 I purchased my first bass. It was a blue single pick-up Kapa. As time went by I sold it and life went on. Several years ago, at a garage sale in my old neighborhood, I came across my ok’d Kapa. It had been used as a bob Hun target and is cosmetically damaged – that I can fix. The major problem is that the bridge assembly is missing. Does anyone know can get ahold of a replacement?

      4. My KAPA 500 Series Project
        Howard

I know this thread is stale, but there’s too much good information here on Kapa guitars to start from scratch.

I recently bought an unfinished es335 copy on FleaBay, allegedly made in Germany in 1968. It has dates written on the body & neck pocket, as well as a few other markings. The seller claims that they were found in a warehouse in Germany. It was reasonably priced, so I bought it.

I also did some digging for German guitar manufacturers in the late 60’s, and found pics of a Kapa Series 500. I’ve looked at pics of every other German-made es335 copy I could find, and I’m 98% sure that this is the real thing. Would be great if I could authenticate it, but I’m not worried about the value, just more curious than anything.

So I’m in the process of building out this new, 47 year old guitar. I’ve built a few Fender parts basses, but never a Gibson style set-neck 6 string.
It has a clear tung-oil finish, gold hardware and a custom tortoise pickguard.
I’m installing ’59 Custom Hybrid Duncans & es335 wiring, instead of the Hofners that should be on a German-made Kapa.
I looked up & down for the Kapa trapeze tailpiece, to no avail so I’m using a TonePros AVR-1 bridge & tail like an es335.

After reading the Kapa history here, I was very surprised to learn that the company was owned by the Veneman family. I went to U of MD and frequented Veneman Music in Silver Spring whenever I could afford something.

I feel even more of a connection to this guitar now. I wish there was a way to authenticate it, but even if it’s not really a Kapa, its still a great story.

Thanks for reading. Here are some pics of my build if you’re interested.

        1. kapa continental 12-string
          Nic

I love my kapa 12 string but can’t find a bridge. I’ve been scouring ebay and other net based sources but there’s nothing that works. I’ve also bout several but again, no success. The posts on the continental 12 measure approximately 64mm center-to-center (most Gibson-like tune-O-matic bridges measure 74mm).

          Any ideas?

        2. Don’t know if you are monitoring this board anymore but I’m posting this in the event you are. You mentioned in your post that you’ve rebuilt “Fender parts basses, but never a Gibson style set neck 6 string”. I wasn’t sure if you were just making a general comment as to what you have some familiarity with, or whether you meant that the ES335 copy you picked up had a set in neck, so my comment may not be relevant. I have a Kapa Series 500 that I bought new in early 1968 (along with a used 1966 Princeton Reverb), which I still play, from a music store in Struthers Ohio. The neck on my 500 is a bolt-on neck, not a set-in neck. It may be that Kapa made the 500 with a bolt on and then switched to a set in at some point (or vice versa), but that would seem unlikely. My 500 definitely has the Hofner pickups and the tone is unlike anything else I own. Love this guitar and would never part with it. There are currently a couple of 500’s offered for sale on Reverb.com that contain some good picture.

Hope this helps with the authentication process, although, unfortunately, it would appear to lead to the conclusion that the ES335 copy you have is not a Kapa 500. In any event, good luck with the project (probably complete by now).

      5. Sounds like someone tried to sabotage this forum with fabricated stories. What shame,. KAPA was a great product and would have loved to read the comments.. True ones.

Earlier I wrote that Albert Veneman sr. was the grandfather of Koob and Albert jr. That was of course a mistake. Albert sr. was the father of Koob en Albert jr. I just bought a AMKA guitar, made by Albert sr. in The Hague, The Netherlands just after World War II. Koob was then still with his father working in the small factory. AMKA means Albert sr, Martha, Koob and Albert jr.

        Adrian Serra

Hello – My parents purchased my Minstrel guitar from a music store in Matawan, NJ over 40 years ago .

I still have her . I had the original label that was pasted inside for years and somehow of course it has
        been misplaced .

I have been searching forever for the manufacturer of this beautiful Guitar. Anyone who hears her , sees
her and plays her just cannot get over the sound and condition . She has a wide body and a very sharp pick
        guard .

How can I authenticate her so that people can stop asking me the who and what’s . I wish I had more inform-
ation to supply . She is primarily stock with only the tuner keys having had to be replaced .

Thank you to anyone who can help me .

      9. Kapa Guitars
        BW

Just happened to come across this “ancient” thread while looking up Kapa guitars. I remember the original Veneman’s store in Silver Spring MD from when I lived in that area as a kid. Never owned a Kapa, but knew a few people who had them, and even played in a band around ’70 in which the bass player played a Kapa bass. Bought quite a few things from Veneman’s over the years at their different locations, the last item being a G&L ASAT, which I bought at the last Veneman location in Rockville shortly before they shut down & it became a “Guitar Center” store. Before moving to that last location I recall one of the times Les Paul did a Gibson demo at the previous Rockville Pike location. It was pouring down rain and my bass player at the time went outside to stand in a parking space which had just been vacated, in order to reserve it so our buddy Danny Gatton could bring his van up closer to the store & get Les Paul to come listen to some tapes of some stuff he’d done. Guess it’s not surprising to see a current interest in the old Kapa guitars, similar to many other old guitar brands from the 60’s & earlier, such as those sold by department stores like Wards & Sears. As I remember the Kapa guitars weren’t a bad “bargain” guitar at all, but they disappeared around the time that the $99 Japanese Ibanez & Bradley Les Paul & SG “clones” began to proliferate, which also have fallen into the realm of “collectors items” nowadays.

        1. Venemans and Kappa guitar
          Anonymous

Hi, I am not sure if you still have this email address as I just saw this post.
I am a guitar player from the Silver Spring area and when I went to Blair my old boyfriend used to take lessons
from Danny Gatton. Regarding Venemans: My Dad bought me a Kapa Minstrel from the old Veneman store on Georgia Ave.
That was a great store and Silver Spring had a lot of amazing players ( still does).
I also ended up buying a 67 Gibson 335 from that store when my friend who played guitar
for a band by the name Natural Bridge turned me on to it.
Anyway, it was really great hearing about 1970’s downtown Sil Spg – was a great place to grow up.
          * I’ll never forget seeing Joe Pass play at the Villa Rosa in downtown Silver Spring for $5.00 cover charge ( 50 people tops in the room).

      Loren,

No way! I thought I was the only one! Do you have the US made "Contemporary Strat?" I’ve never corresponded with someone who also owns that guitar. I LOVE mine – except for the Kahler Spyder!

Anyway, I am also in desperate need of those same parts – I call them "barrel screws," but that’s probably not right. I discovered that Peavey sold some guitars with the Spyder, so I contacted their parts department and they just mailed me six of the screws. Problem is – they aren’t exactly right. They have a slotted head instead of the hex. However, if you are in a tight spot (sounds like you are), you might consider giving them a try. They seem to be almost exactly the same except for the head.

Here’s the exerpt from my email with Peavey:

The part # is a generic # 88888830 and just ask for 6 we will get them out to you.

Please feel free to call us at 877-732-8391 and ask for the Parts Dept.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know if you’ve discovered any other place to purchase them. Have you tried calling Fender? I’m going to try that today.

Also, would love to hear from you about the guitar – maybe swap a picture. Does yours have the cool flamed top?

Good luck, and PLEASE let me know if you discover anything!

        : Loren,

The reason why the allen heads are starting to strip is because you are probably using the WRONG allen wrench. You can force a slightly bigger wrench into a socket and get it to work for a while but finally you will have problems. If you get the correct allen wrench it should work fine.

      2. Re: Need Kahler Spyder tremolo parts
        Rick Smith

I’ll need to check my Kahler Spyder to be sure, but it sounds like you are describing some type of machine screw, probably a set screw. If so, they are extremely common (hardware stores, McMaster-Carr, Fastenal, etc.)

        Good Luck
