        Gene Beach

I have the Egmond that I received as a Christmas gift from my parents around 1963 or 64. It is a flat top with round hole and features a pretty deep body – 4.25 inches. This thing was so hard to play – high strings, bad set-up, it is a wonder that I stuck with it. I got a Yamaha-180 for Christmas in 1969 and still enjoy it. Anyway, in the 80s I went stupid, stripped the tattered tobacco burst finish off the Egmond and refinished it in a solid stain. Since it was my first guitar, I plan on restoring it sometime but doubt that it will ever be much of a player!

:I bought my Egmond in 1970 and agree that it had a high action, However I reset it and I am still playing it 37 years later. My son and one of my nephews leaned to play on it and my son still heads for it when he visits.

      Hello,

I have a red acoustic Egmond f-body guitar I bought back in 1971 in Scotland as a starry-eyed 15 year old. Unfortunately I never learned to play it and 34 years later it’s in need of some repair (the body has sunken between the f-holes and needs to be opened up and rebraced – which will probably cost me a fair amount to get fixed). The serial number on the back of the stock is 74030299.

I still think it’s a cool looking guitar and I’ll likely bite the bullet and get it fixed. You never know, now that my son is taking guitar lessons, maybe I can learn to play as well!!

      Cheers,

        Hi Rusty,
I also have an egmond lap steel. Dont know where i got it from. It is in fine condition, But by the petina in the paintwork it is obviously very old. I would like to date it.

I’m located in Western Massachusetts…approx. 40 miles east of Albany,NY…just about a year ago…I bid on (and won) purchase of an Egmond guitar..Small in size..arch-top..double f-hole.Not knowing anything about these guitars piqued my curiosity..Unpacking the guitar..I noticed a single pickup and vol./tone assembly mounted to the pickguard..the input jack was unusual also..1/8"..phone plug required to operate.Also..the brand of pickup was "Ibanez"..an early vintage..The seller listed the guitar as a ’61 "Egmond Hofner"..my question is: What did I buy?..good?..bad?….my investment was approx. $160.00.
This guitar is serious need of work..loose back and rattling braces..very high action..almost thought of using it for a slide guitar…however,it does say "Egmond" on the headstock..any replies to this submission would be appreciated. [email protected]

bit expensive mate, egmond were the cheapest guitars you could buy in holland in the sixties. I’d say $25 dollars would have been more than enough.
          look up the following site:

If the previous poster can find me any Egmond for $25 I will take as many as he can find. In the UK, even poor condition Lucky 7’s (which yours sounds like) without the scratchplate go for £60 or so.

Egmond is a guitar company from the netherland it was massproducing guitars from the 60’s till the 70’s. It was at one point taken over by Martin. But was never related to Hofner. They were producing a couple of thousand guitars a week in their factory witch was located in Best a small village near Eindhoven. The guitar were one of the cheapest around at that time. With us in Holland a egmond guitar is worth someting between 50 till 200 euro, in dollars is almost the same. Archtops and basses are worth more than others. Please send me some pics I got a hole archieve of egmond pictures. So maybe I can tell you what the type of guitar it is you got

I have a 12 – string Egmond Guitar that I’ve been looking for info about for a while now. It’s got a hummingbird scratchplate and still has the signature of authenticity inside the sound hole. It’s in quite bad shape as it has been passed through many hands but I was wondering if it might be worth anything

I’m sorry to tell you but an egmond solidbody guitar is almost never worth more than 200 euro. If it is than it will be a guitar owned by a very famous person (Think George harrison’s that is worth 500.000 pounds)or you are selling it to a very crazy collector.

        Hi Paul:
I also have one(my first 6 string)I just keep it because was the guitar I learn how to play. I was 13 and was back in 1968 a gift from my mother.
Anyway, I keep it just for that reason. I dont think that they were good guitars then and certanely not what you can call a good guitar now.I dont think that there is any value there other than the value we want them to worth. My seria# is 24010145. I am trying to restore mine and was looking on the net for parts and came across a nice web site from a man who lives in Holland and collects this brand of guitars.
        http://www.markenhof.myweb.nl/indexe.html
You can contact him via Email.
And if your uncle has some extra parts for that guitar, I will be willing to buy it to replace on my own.
        Regards
        F. Moura

        1. I have a 6 string Egmond – arch top acoustic f-hole burst. Serial #24010142
I bought it for $5.00 with the case. It has no strings but still a very pretty guitar.

I have a Egmond archtop acoustic that was my very first 6 string. Bought in 68.And yes, the serial # is in the back of the stock, in between the machine heads, mine is :- 24010145I keep it for obvious sentimental reasons. I came across a web site with the History of the Egmond factory and family. Very good here it it for anybody interested.
        http://www.markenhof.myweb.nl/indexe.html
And by the way, I need to get the machine heads for mine, since I am trying to restor it. If anybody has them or even knows how can I get them…PLEASE let me know. I also will buy an old and wrecked one so I can use it for parts.
Best regards for all…and hope to ear from all of you.

I have a ’60s Egmond electric, kind of a fake-leather-covered Jazzmaster copy. Bought it relatively cheap about 6 years ago, and love it.

Everything I’ve read about these has commented on their supposed lack of quality, but I have to say mine’s not bad at all. Nothing like a real Fender Jazzmaster, other than the shape, but not bad. The wiring could’ve been better, I guess. The vibrato tailpiece is actually probably the best of any guitar I’ve ever owned, actually. Despite looking like a Jazzmaster, it’s actually semihollow, and sounds more Gretschy to me than anything else…

Odd tidbit: my Egmond has, pencilled in the hollow inside of the body, under the pickguard, the words "Blausmier Einen!" I don’t know what "Blausmier" means, but apparently it’s number one?

I own an Egmond Serial No. 29070323 semi acoustic Western / Dreadnaught style guitar, it has a stainless steel pick-up, with a black port with Egmond printed on it fitted across the lower part of the sound hole.
It also has open gear tuner pegs three each side, it has only a part of the label inside and the number 32 printed to the right of the sound-hole. The 17″ neck has 19 frets and is fitted with a truss rod. tortoise shell scratch plate on a 20″ x 16″ body x 4.25″ deep.
I would like to know how old it is and any other information about this guitar that you could tell me, I don’t care about value as I am not likely to part with it just yet, I have a few different guitars but have to admit I am only an admirer of their beauty and their sound as I don’t actually play. 9. Egmond Acoustic Guitar

I have an Egmond 6 string f-hole guitar. The body is a golden color center with darker shading around the outside. The guard is white and the bridge is adjustable with two round rollers. The head is an arch with the name Egmond lettered in gold and a metal plate with 3 screws between the head and neck “Made in Holland.” The serial # is imprinted on the reverse side of the head vertically between the tuning heads. It is an 8 digit # starting with 190. My mother got this guitar back in the mid to late 60’s from her father, who was a professional musician. He played almost every musical instrment and also owned a music shop and bought, sold and traded instruments, sheet music, records and albums, etc. My mother played the piano and wanted to learn to play the guitar, but never had the time. It has only been out of the case maybe a half dozen times. There are a few slight dings on the edges, but there is absolutely no wear or scratches on it since no one ever played it. I did a good bit of research on this particular guitar and found a picture of John Lennon in his early pre-Beatles years playing a very close looking Egmond guitar, but that was a while ago and I never printed it out. I have been unable to go back to locate that picture. I remember it being in my mothers possession in the mid to late 60’s, but I don’t know if her father ordered it directly from the manufacturer, a wholesaler, or bought or traded it through his music store. Since he stocked various instruments, I can’t say how long it might have been in his store. Despite the few dings, I would say it is in excellent condition otherwise. I am still trying to research it through the serial number. I would like to get an idea of how old it is or possibly when it was made. I don’t really have any sentimental attachment to it, so if anyone is interested in it, I might consider selling it if the price or value could be determined. Any information that could be provided would be appreciated. Hoping to hear from any of you guitar “rockers” out there. Thanx, dee cee!!

        I have three:
        a semi-acoustic (sort of 335 shape with 2 single coil pick-ups)
a Western – not market Egmond but with the tell tale cross mark and ‘Made in Holland’ label on back of neck
a Rosetti Lucky 7 red semi-acoustic with single cutaway but, alas, no scratch plate with pick-up
Thes are undoubtedly historic (see the ‘you were very unlucky to have a Lucky 7’ comment from the Beatles George Harrison: however they are virtally unplayable due to their necks without truss rods and curvy swervy necks.
        I still love them all.
Perhaps they’d be good for slide playing.
