Anybody know what this thing is worth? Bought it in the late 70’s for 199.00. Basically looks like a Les Paul. cream color. two humbuckers. Someone said it might be worth some mulah now, as he has never seen one. Me either for that matter. actually plays really well much like a les paul.

The differance is the sonix has a bolt on neck not fixed like the paul and the pick-ups are set into a face plate like some of the sg models rather than set into the body like the les paul. I collect 70’s les pauls, and sg’s. I do have 2 sonix that i use to teach kids with. They are a good guitar for the money, about what the epi. is now. sight unseen i would give it a value between 250.00 and 325.00
: yeah i just got one and there very rare and hard to get hol of the main difference betweent that and a les paul is that the switch is not at the top of the guitar it also has the zebra pickups which are very tastey the guitar is more of an investment as it will increase in value over time i very much recommend u peeps by 1 top guitar folks
Anyone heard of the SG2000.
When I sold my Gibson in 1975, the dealer told me it was an SG2000 but havn’t seen one since.
The pickups were single pole. The only thing I didn’t like about the guitar was, where the neck joined the body there was something like a half/inch step from the fretboard to the body. It just didn’t look too good.
The sound was OK through a Marshall Stack without pedals.

I’ve seen picks and it looks great, save up your $$$!
But will it also be majorly top-heavy, with the neck and headstock being disproportunately heavy for that little, albiet beautiful body. The best thing about those guitars was the beautiful multicolored abalone.

year they were produced from 1946 to 1971 it has trapazoid tail
piece. and f-holes 17" body looks like L-5 the arched top has

: Early L5S guitars had low impedance pickups like the Les Paul Recording, Personal and Professional models – they look like big, fat single coils, but the L5S pickups were gold plated. Later L5S models had standard Gibson humbucker shaped pickups in gold plated metal covers. I have an old L5S that someone removed the pickups from (humbucker style)and would be interested in getting an original set of pickups if you decide to switch them out. Thanks, Greg
Does anyone have any idea of where I can get an adjustable saddle for my gibson J-50 (1969)? Thanks.
Take my advise and throw that adj. saddle as far as you can. Have the bridge filled with rosewood, slot recut,bone saddle inserted and intonated and you will not know it is the same guitar. Volume will be much better and tone will be clearer.

Actually, that’s a trick question. It’s common to replace that adjustable saddle because it doesn’t transmit sound to the guitar top as well as one that’s seated firmly in the bridge. I made this change about 20 years ago and have never regretted it. You can also explore having this replacement saddle intonated. It doesn’t cost that much more, and when done by a skilled repairman really will improve the accuracy of your guitar’s sound. Good luck!

This special-edition Celebrity Series of the Gibson Chet Atkins
electric acoustic guitar features a striking black-laquer body with a
custom swirling white pickguard. Mother of pearl stars are inlaid on
the neck. The visual presentation is eye-catching. The guitar comes
with a tan leather case complete with combination brass locks and a
padded leather handle. The case’s interior is plush fucshia with a
matching satin guitar cover. Package includes original
never-completed Gold warranty card though the warranty probably would
not transfer, or be available to, the new buyer.
A small fleck of black laquer is missing near the bridge of the
guitar, on the side of the first string. It is almost invisible. And
a small ding appears on the back at the cutout of the neck. In
addition the original owner appears to have overpolished a small area
of the body’s front — or to have dulled the laquer with his
shirtsleeve — at the very edge of the guitar that is covered by the
elbow when playing. It is almost undetectable. And a small area of
laquer on the the back of the neck is dulled apparently by sweat from
the player’s hand. The case also has a few very minor dings from the
two airplane flights it’s made in its lifetime. This guitar was sold
to me as mint and unused. Obviously the instrument has been handled
but very carefully. I never played the guitar. It was one of three
Gibson Chet Atkins guitars I bought but never needed deciding instead
to amp my acoustic classical guitars and to rely on archtop rather
than hardbody electrics. However, guitar playe!
rs like Dave Matthews who want acoustical ambience in group and stage
settings where feedback is a problem are well-served by the Gibson
Chet Atkins. And there’s a better reason to own this guitar: It’s
part of Chet’s legacy to all of us who love to play and listen to the
guitar. Made in U.S.A. Serial No. 92941508

card and the never-completed five-year warranty card though the

buyer. There is hairline checking in the lacquer alongside the first
string where the neck ends. This flaw, probably age related, is
almost invisible. In addition there are two tiny, almost-invisible
divots in the lacquer between the fourth and fifth strings where the
neck ends; and one small divot at the edge of the body’s face (in an
area the arm normally covers while playing). These minor cosmetic
flaws might be manufacturer’s defects or to have occurred while in
storage. They do not detract from the guitar’s beauty. I!
n addition, there are very light pickmarks above and below the
strings, probably originating when the guitar was unsold and being
tried out in the store. The back and neck are virtually immaculate.
I’ve never played the guitar. It was one of three Gibson Chet Atkins

The three thousand number is incorrect, if it was a limited edition (SN on back of headstock by tuners in gold inlay) it was only made in 1976 as a tribute to the Bicentennial. While the unexpected popularity caused Gibson to continue making them (they were supposed to be limited production-times were slow for Gibson) as far as I know only the "76 had the red white & blue "bird" in the pick guard lower front. Value of a 1976 + $2,500 approx. over other years. Also I was told the post 76 models had bolt on necks, not the original 1 piece "pass-through" like the ’76
As a laugh the same year I could have purchased a brand new 20th Anniversary edition Les Paul Custom for $450 , should have sold my car & bought it 🙂 liked the Firebird better.

Found a 1952 Gibson J-50 in EX+ condition with pick wear and other blemishes for $2,399. Other than cosmetics, it’s all original and has not been re-necked. I have found same guitar in better cosmetic condition for around $3,000.

I have a 1968-1970 J-160E available, if your interested. The serial number is #960599 which puts it right in the middle of 1968. terrific base tone and it great shape for a 34 year old.
The guitar is gorgeous with a straight neck and great aged binding and inlays. Everything is original including the tuners, which is rare, except the pickguard. A ’64 guard was added. She has that throaty volume that the 45 body is famous for. There is some finish checking and some fret filing that has been done but she is in fabulous shape

I have a 1978 Gibson L5S. It is a natural finish blonde. Probably made in Kalamazoo and assembled in Nashville.
It has two humuckers and a tunamatic stop tail piece.
It is one of the more desireable setups and harder to find than the usual sunburst models. The finish shows the flames in the maple off. It has all the standard features of the L5S: Triple binding, the L5 style neck, ebony fretboard with ablalone inlays.
The guitar is in very good shape with all original parts. The only thing not stock are the clear black Gibson speed knobs that I put on instead of the old style gold hat shaped knobs. A heavy duty Gibson case is included.

I have one that is fire engine red. Not sure what year, but probably mid 60’s.
