Yamaha of Japan indicate that this guitar was made by Toshio Kato their first classical luthier and that it was a high end handmade classical guitar. If this was on the market today it would be worth $5,000 US.

There is now a nice Yamaha GC 20 D by Toshiro Kato posted in Flickr. The Katos from this time period are few and far between and are certainly fine handmade instruments. There are many rumors that Kato signed his name on a bunch of Yamaha stuff in later years. Even those instruments are sought after and carry a high value with both players and collectors.
