Hello Folks,is it known if the One Cut Harrison was ever issued with a Lucky 7 type pick-up/scratch plate,or could it be a Egmond acoustic jazz? The lower F hole has the half enlarged rounded sound hole. All of the One Cuts i’ve seen(photos)have scratch plates so i’m not able to tell from those.Any help on the history of these guitars is welcome.

Could someone please tell me any information on an Egmond with the serial number 23780837? The nubs of its tuning pegs are missing and its got a few dings on its body, but I’m wondering if its worth anything, how old it is, etc. To replace the hardware is gonna cost me $50-60 and I’m not sure if I should spend the money or just put that cash toward a new guitar. Any thoughts are welcome!

Hi ,Does Any One Out There Have Any Info As To Any Beatle Connection To This Model Of Guitar, ie The Egmond Rosetti "Lucky Seven" ,As Having Just Aquired Such A Guitar I Would Certainly Apreciate Any Help On The Matter , With Thanks ,Bill .

I believe that George Harrison and Paul McCartney both started out with Egmonds because they were so ‘affordable’! I believe that George’s original childhood Egmond recently sold for somewhere in the $500,000 range, not because it was an Egmond, but because it was George’s. Peace and Love.

  10. Information about an old Egmond
    Carter

    Hey all,
My dad gave me his old guitar that had just been sitting there. It says "EGMOND" across the top of the headstock, and the serial number is 15011019. As far as I know, he bought it sometime in the ’70’s because he has pictures of him with it. Id like to know more information about it, and find a website or some sort of resource that would appraise it for me. THANKS FOR THE HELP!

      1. Rossetti/Egmond original 50s/60's guitars
        Paul Evans

I own a few Egmond/Rosettisand wondered if there were any collectors of them out there. I have a sunburst parlour sized model that is identical to George Harrisons(and Brian Mays). It’s in great condition with its movable plastic bridge. It doesn’t sound brilliant. My first guitar was a white Lucky 7 from the late 50’s. You can age them by how many dots it has on the fretboard to within a few years and also if it has a truss rod. I bought a Lucky 7 exactly the same as my first guitar. It had been stored under a bed with 2 strings on it in its awful yellow soft case since the 60’s when the person gave up trying to learn. The curse of them is the neck bowing(and a lot have been turned into slide guitars) but this is absolutely straight. The necks come off and you can adjust the angle. I put a shim (little piece of wood) under it and it has a lovely action. The plastic adjustable and movable bridge looks like new. The original pearloid scratchplate was warped but I solved that pouring boiling water over it and placing it on a flat surface. The only thing that makes it not brand new looking is some paint flaking on the back of the neck from me playing it. I would sell it is someone were interested. My rarest is a Rosetti Airline 3. They are rare anyway but mine has a solid mahogany body(which I ,nor anyone has ever seen. It has Fender tuners fitted(the first 60’s Fender tuners with the F logo on, they are U shaped). It has a maple neck and rosewood fretboard. It has a white pearloid scratchplate and a moveable metal bridge(this is usually not present). It has 3 humbucker sized single coil pick ups( they sound very like Kurt Cobains Univox pick ups) with a switch for each, so any combination is possible. It has a nice vibrato which works like a Fender Mustang one.I find the body puzzling. It is the exact size and shape as all Airlines but being mahogany I wonder if someone made it. If they did they certainly were good. It has a lovely patina from where it has been played over the last 50 plus years. I would be willing to sell that too. I love the fact that Rosetti/Egmonds can be rare, even exotic, yet you can get a 60 year old one for less than an Epiphone.

I have an Egmond 6 string, kind of a sun burst finish, small folk acoustic type guitar. The label inside states: "Egmond, made in Holland. The signature on this label guarantees that this instrument is a genuine Egmond guitar which passed minute final inspection. Egmond Brothers LTD., Holland, Factory of musical instruments." The numbers stamped on the back of the peg head are 27951111. I’ve been researching this guitar for s while now and the closest I can come is that this was the same make and model as George Harrison’s first guitar. I need to dig deeper into those numbers stamped on the back of the neck and I’m not sure where to go from here. I know it is very old because it was given to my wife by her grandfather when their family migrated from Germany last century. Any help on this guitar or any tips on where to find those serial numbers (which lead to the year, make, and model – I think) would be of great help. Thanks.

Sorry, made an arse of my last post. I had an Egmond acoustic in the late 60s. This was when they were made. It was a single cut away body rather like the les paul. If I remember coeectly it cost me £6:00 Sterling. I din’t know if your is worth more than you paid or not but I wish I had kept every guitar I owned, I am now 52 and one or two of them are now collectors pieces. Don’t get rid of them, keep them stored in a case and play and clean them occasionally. In years to come they will be worth something.

egmond guitars were made in holland in a town called best until 72. unlike most guitars there seems to be no record of serial manufacture dates etc…they became very popular in the mid 60s and were mccartney/harrisons first guitars in the beatles.cheap and affordable 1000s flooded the guitar market in uk but very few survive.v hard to value but rarity alone is important factor… if you got one hang on too it.

I bought an Egmond Acoustic guitar from a car boot in Tiverton Devon for £1, last sunday. Candy sunburst to black, f holes and fingerpick plate. In good condition but unloved. A litle TLC and she is reponding well, a really ggod tone. I still need to adjust the truss brace to refine the action.

Hi…I own a beautiful Egmond acoustic guitar, it is a very deep red to black sunburst with a brown tortoise-shell type pickguard and is in fairly good condition for its age. I picked it up a few years ago in a junk shop for ir£6 (about 10 euro) . The neck was severly twisted due to neglect and the fact it was lying underneath a speaker cab for a long time. Over the last few years i have managed to carefully straighten it out again using steam and judicious tightening of the truss rod and now have an absolutely beautiful guitar to play . It is much heavier and more solid than a modern acoustic and this really does show through in the quality of tone-perfect for blues and slide playing . I would be very interested in more info about this guitar, i.e. when was it made ? Is it worth anything (not that i’d ever sell ) etc etc. Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

        Lars

        Hello,

I’m probably going to buy one from a local shop here in Holland, and according to the website of Egmond,
you can find out what period the guitar is from looking at the head and the sticker inside. If it has an iron or plastic logo on the headstock, held in place with 2 tiny screws, it’s late 50s, early 60s.
And I guess you guys convinced me in buying one by telling about a lovely tone and great playability!

        Thanks,

        Lars

I just bought an Egmond hollowbody from I believe around 1967. I took it to a local repairman for service, and he found that the neck was held on by a single bolt and spring! Does anyone know anything about this neck joint design? He removed the spring and shimmed the neck, and now it plays horribly.

I have renewed my opinion about egmonds in fact egmond is a guitarbrand that was formed in holland in I believe 1935 and they kept on producinging guitars in their factory in Best near eindhoven until the 70’s. The company was taken over by Martin. At their highst production level they were producing as many as a several thousand guitars a week, they were sold al across the globe. And were the cheapest guitars around. The guitars are in the european market at a price between the 50 and the 150 euro’s that almost the same as dollars. Please send me pictures of the guitar for my archive and maybe I can tell you what is the type of guitar you have

I found mine in a dungheap, cracked top, no strings, mechanism rusted. It has a glued-in oval, golden label with green print. On the top of the rim the label says: Manufacturies des Instrumentes a Cordes. On the bottom it says: Guitares-Banjo’s-Mandolines etc. In the center it says: Egmond Freres. On the inside, on the back near the neck is stamped in black: Made in Holland.
I put new mechanism on, re-strung it and the hell with the crack and it plays just fine.
Age: No idea. Value: it looks very cheap, and I had it for nothing.

My father was Principal of a college in Uganda. After independence in 1963 we returned to UK. The students spent many happy hours playing the instruments in our house and they bought my father an Egmond Freres guitar. All students signed it. I think it was made in Holland. It carries many powerful memories of my childhood and I have it with me, hoping to restore it for my parents who are now in their 90’s having outlived most of their students in Uganda.
