Well I really love the song, and I can sing it in E but I’ve gotta say that the 3 chord open E version is missing the nuances of the real thing.
In the intro by Hunters and Collectors you can clearly hear something interesting happening at the 3rd chord. It’s certainly not a 3 chord song like so many have tabbed it out. Please don’t post a link to the same tired old chord charts. I’ve searched and seen them. I’d love to add the correct touch to this song. Dropped D tuning could be the way to go, but even that extra chord in open E would be good… many thanks, glen

Ok… I am the biggest fan of holy grail ever and ic an tell you the chord progression on the electric guitar are the standard chords E, A, C#m and B. Acousticaly, mark plays the equivelant but with a capo on four. If you dont undertand that, just put a capo on the fourth fret and play a C, F, Am and G to do this. The bridge or interlude on the acoustic is C, C9, Am, F. C9 is a standard C chord with the fourth string held down with the pinky on four. This is all written relative to the capo. The piano riff converted to guitar goes:

Fasan was made by Klira ,the same guitars also have been made under the name Isana, they are mainly postalorder guitars.
cheapo’s not worth a lot at this moment.
but not that bad quality, tough the Klira products were of a high standard, these names were their budget brands just like fender has squier.
Most of these guitars only have a DIN output because they were ment to use at home on the family radio.
my dad has an old fasan guitar but we can’t get info on it anywhere seemingly! this is the first website i have found even mentioning the make of guitar! it is a gorgeous 40 year old guitar – goodness knows how much it could be worth! i will post up any more info if i find any.

so i have found the holy grail tabs from some of the previous tabs, but i am a VERY basic player, and am just starting out. i can play the E and A chords, but have a lot of trouble playing the C#m and B chords….
is there an easier way of playing them? maybe i could play power chords instead?? thanks a lot
Holy Grail is an awesome song from an awesome writer. I have been having the same trouble with the C#m as you for yonks. Then some genius from Tassie pointed out that if you have a capo on the 4th fret (buy a cheap one if you don’t have one) the chords become C instead of E, F instead of A, Am instead of C#m, G instead of B, and C7 (c plus pinkie two strings down from top finger) instead of E7. Hope that helps. This is how Mark Seymour plays it.

I’ve been trying to get that song right for quite some time. The only tab out there is somewhat right. Here are some corrections I’ve made that are more accurate.
main part is C Dm Em (all bar chords)
then for "it learned how to…" play C, E7, Fm, F, C, F, C
so hit the C on "learned", E7 on "hurt", Fm "learned", F "cry", then C in the silence, F "humans", C "do…"
other than that, i only disagree with one other chord. at the "dishes in the sink…" part, I use a standard F bar chord instead of the chord in the tab.

well well, tonite i got told about how good holy grail was, so i downloaded the song, and of course lving guitar, went looking fo tabs, i found chord progressions, but they dont do this song justice, so i decided to tab it myself, and not some piss poor job, a full tab, i will TRY to convert the piano and trumpet for guitar, i already have the piano bits done, and the intro note thingy, and the main verse, so it wont be long till i get it completed, maybe 1-2 days, i wont be putting it up on the net, if u want a copy send me an email and i’ll send one back along with the tab, its easier, i check my email dailey usually so should get back with it within 24 hours.

a few weeks ago I found a Fasan semi-accoustic bass-guitar in an old school. Since then I’m searching obout any information. Nearly nothing, but some things I found out;
Fasan is (I think) a product of Alois Sandler, a son of a very famous jazz-guitar builder from the 50’s. See the information at this site:

Fasan was made by Klira ,the same guitars also have been made under the name Isana, they are mainly postalorder guitars.
cheapo’s not worth a lot at this moment.
but not that bad quality, tough the Klira products were of a high standard, these names were their budget brands just like fender has squier.
Most of these guitars only have a DIN output because they were ment to use at home on the family radio.
my dad has an old fasan guitar but we can’t get info on it anywhere seemingly! this is the first website i have found even mentioning the make of guitar! it is a gorgeous 40 year old guitar – goodness knows how much it could be worth! i will post up any more info if i find any.

hey there.
so i have found the holy grail tabs from some of the previous tabs, but i am a VERY basic player, and am just starting out. i can play the E and A chords, but have a lot of trouble playing the C#m and B chords….
is there an easier way of playing them? maybe i could play power chords instead?? thanks a lot

Holy Grail is an awesome song from an awesome writer. I have been having the same trouble with the C#m as you for yonks. Then some genius from Tassie pointed out that if you have a capo on the 4th fret (buy a cheap one if you don’t have one) the chords become C instead of E, F instead of A, Am instead of C#m, G instead of B, and C7 (c plus pinkie two strings down from top finger) instead of E7. Hope that helps. This is how Mark Seymour plays it.

You are right it could also be played using the power chords of
E: 7th on A
A: 5th on E
C#: 4th on A (instead of C#m)
B: 7th on E
D: 5th on A

I’ve been trying to get that song right for quite some time. The only tab out there is somewhat right. Here are some corrections I’ve made that are more accurate.
main part is C Dm Em (all bar chords)
then for "it learned how to…" play C, E7, Fm, F, C, F, C
so hit the C on "learned", E7 on "hurt", Fm "learned", F "cry", then C in the silence, F "humans", C "do…"
other than that, i only disagree with one other chord. at the "dishes in the sink…" part, I use a standard F bar chord instead of the chord in the tab.
try it, i think you’ll like it.

well well, tonite i got told about how good holy grail was, so i downloaded the song, and of course lving guitar, went looking fo tabs, i found chord progressions, but they dont do this song justice, so i decided to tab it myself, and not some piss poor job, a full tab, i will TRY to convert the piano and trumpet for guitar, i already have the piano bits done, and the intro note thingy, and the main verse, so it wont be long till i get it completed, maybe 1-2 days, i wont be putting it up on the net, if u want a copy send me an email and i’ll send one back along with the tab, its easier, i check my email dailey usually so should get back with it within 24 hours.
