Aaron Adamson I would be thrilled to help you with the syles of Lenny Breau. I have instruction videos available at www.washbrook.com
1. “The Intuitive Lenny Breau two note comping techniques for the advanced finger style guitarist”. This video explains the application of two note essential chord tones first from an intuitive approach and then from a theoretical point of view. You can start applying the knowledge right away. Two note comping chord tones are the appropriate 3rd and 7th degrees of any chord played together as a two-note chord to define if the chord is major or minor, or a dominant 7th chord. Lenny’s realization of using only two notes as his chord in any song being played logically freed up his remaining left hand fingers to play melodies. All of Washbrook’s examples start by learning two note comping tones for all chord types in all positions. This is your foundation to expand to the full potential of the fret board. Washbrook’s innovative almost eastern type philosophy of learning the examples builds in the rewards of one really doing it with the rewards of one step at a time. This method provides wise direction and an organized training method to develop coordination. This will insure that one will gain the insight and dexterity to develop the freedom not just to play memorized examples but one day to improvise using two note (or three note) chord tones with improvised melodies on top.
(Two one-hour videos with booklet)

2. “Altered sounds volume #1 Melodic minor for chord re-harmonization and single note improvisation”. This video explains the application of how to use Melodic minor first from an intuitive approach and then from a theoretical point of view. This way you can start applying the knowledge right away. All examples are approached with two note comping as your foundation to expand on. It has never been explained this way before. Washbrook’s unique way of combining the lesson topics with two note comping tones as an easy remunerable anchor point helps to remember and apply the knowledge faster.
(One Hour video and book)

3. “Altered sounds volume #2 Harmonic minor for chord re harmonization and single note improvisation”. This video explains the application of how to use Harmonic minor first from an intuitive approach and then from a theoretical point of view. This way you can start applying the knowledge right away. All examples are approached with two note comping as your foundation to expand on. Washbrook’s unique way of combining the lesson topics with two note comping tones as a bass helps one remember and apply the knowledge faster.
(One Hour video and booklet)

4. “Altered sounds volume #3 diminished scale, whole tone scale, diminished whole tone scales”. The teaching techniques in this video encourage your own natural way of understanding substitutions revealed through the viewpoint of altered chord clusters. Washbrook approaches the lessons on Lenny Breau’s two note comping style as your foundation to expand on. Washbrook defiantly has an individualistic way of explaining this. Washbrook’s unique way of combining the lesson topics with two note comping tones as a home bass helps one remember and apply the knowledge faster. (One Hour video and booklet)

5. “ Washbrook’s walking bass while adding chords and melody played simultaneously technique”.
This video first explains bass movement and applies it to chord progressions. The methods include many exercises to learn chord inversions and their different voice movements using different degrees of the chords as the moving bass part. I then go on even further studying inversions and economy of movement to allow more complex chords and melodies to be played simultaneously along with the bass part. Stimulating examples have been prepared to help you develop this coordination and technical understandings to activity do by yourself at your own pace. But even though the video is full of information and examples the Washbrook’s true theme method approaches this style in a what that allows you to become your own master teacher. It is really like becoming your own arranger for the guitar. Washbrook teaches it like no one else making up bass, melody and chord parts that work from a truly improvisational point of view. It requires time and properly prepared examples, but Washbrook from the start always shows you how to make these examples up yourself as you go along and progress. Players like Martin Taylor, Tuck Andress, and Paul Musso do this technique today, but it is amazing to see Washbrook play this style. He is a natural at walking bass lines with chords and melody. He is doing this from an improvisational view rather than memorizing pieces worked out note for note. It is very a rewarding style because it makes the guitar sound like a little band. It ultimately leads to solo guitar that can be applied to other levels of musical experiences, and is also an excellent way for the jazz student to get a feel for playing single note lines over chord changes in the higher octaves for melody use.
(Two one-hour videos with booklet)

6. “The Intuitive Lenny Breau’s use of Harmonics” One of Lenny’s most famous trademarks was his invention of the use of harmonics. The harp or bell-like quality he would produce by playing the harmonic of chords, single notes, scales or even arpeggios created a haunting and mystical quality, which is Lenny’s signature sound. This video includes basic introduction to how to play harmonics and then moves into advanced concepts. Washbrook applies the use of harmonics creatively with an explanation of chord substitutions, modal applications, tonicization, arpeggio substitution, and help you find the best fingerings for such complex altered mystical sounds.
(One Hour video and booklet)

7. “The Intuitive Lenny Breau finger style interpretations of four popular standards”
This video teaches standards with a slow articulate note-for- note approach with close-up camera shots for easy observation and fast retention for the student. This intimate teaching approach shares a true love and respect to the genius of Lenny Breau. Washbrook shows Lenny’s subtle nuances of tone, dynamics, harmonics, choice of chord substitutions, modal influences, two note comping chords with independent melody, rhythmical placement, phrasing and much more. These demonstrations cover much of Lenny’s stylistic key points and will motivate the student to learn these interpretations
(One Hour video and booklet)

8.“Washbrook’s method of inversions, voice Leading, modal and quartal harmony concepts for guitar”. This video explains the application of how to apply all your inversions of different chords in all positions on the fret board. The voice leading exercises are then applied with the knowledge of all the inversions to standard chord progressions. The fun with modal and quartal harmony concepts will be introduced first from an intuitive approach first and then from a theoretical point of view, so that you can start applying the knowledge right away. Introducing them to you through famous recognizable standards helps you apply the modal and quartal harmony examples. (Two one-hour videos with booklet)
