I too am a beginning guitarist, but the things you will need, if you don't already have them, is a tuner or pitchpipe, extra strings, etc. but you already know that, im sure. A really good teach yourself guitar book is called Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method, Grade 1, most likely. It has a blue cover and is a great book if you want to teach yourself, or just on the side of lessons. It has pictures of everything and is easy to understand. If you are going to take lessons (not on the internet) then your instructer will most likely have a book that they want you to use. If you want some free music programs off the internet that you can download off the internet in about a minute, go to www.music-utilities.com . You can learn the chords, notes, and where the notes go on the staff there on this site.
I hope this helped,
Amanda
