Searching LA...

Hi, I'm looking for a person that worked at "Gold Mountain" in the Burbank area. Last I heard she had moved to a studio called "The Gas Company" or something like that. I don't know if these are publishing company's or recording studios. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

guitarist/arranger/songwriter/producer fro hire

Hello my name is Scott Jones. I am a currently the music/band director, guitarist, transcriber/arranger at my church in St. Louis. It is a contemporary service that has afforded me the great priviledge of writing in every style imaginable and sharing God's glory through my gifts to a congregation of 3-4000 people. This includes all vocal arranging, all transcribing, new instrumental arrangements of hymns and worship songs, all orchestrations of horns, strings, piano, full rhythm section; in the styles of pop, country, jazz, orchestral...etc. I am also a songwriter/producer. I often use drum loops in my arrangements. I sometimes revise old songs to mirror the current styles of Sara McLaughlin, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos etc...

I have the vision of doing what I do in Nashville.

Need a song? A guitarist? A new arrangement? Strings or horns arranged? Artist recording a C.D. needing those objective ears to guide the recording/songwriting process?
I believe we should talk.

Future endeavors include contracted music director/guitarist for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Mid-America Emmy Awards.

I would love to share recordings of my playing and arrangements with anyone who desires a professional relationship.

Promotion Kit

I'm looking for suggestions as to content of a promo kit that would be appropriate for handing out to local live music venues. Obviously, a B&W photo, band bio, and CD will go in the kit. Any other suggestions? I would appreciate input from musicians in all genres, so that I have a representative sample of what's being done out there. Thanks.

I have some unrelated advise. If there is live music at say a music store, like a big tower records, ask the manager whether the store has a local music section. If there is a section, ask them if they could put your CD in one of thier listen stations. Also when you put a kit together, add maybe a bit of mystery to your photos and stuff, like make your pictures darker, come up with an interesting symbol things like that. Also if you haven't done it already, create a website. The internet has become a hot spot to check out music, and utilize that. There are also some sites where you could post Mp3's of your music. Thats about it, well anyway good luck to your band

Re: Promotion Kit

Did the site already...it has a few MP3's on it.

strings on guitars

Can someone tell me if seven string guitars are too much harder then six string guitars?

Re: strings on guitars

: Can someone tell me if seven string guitars are too much harder then six string guitars?

Seven string guitars are very easy to play. The only difference is the neck is a bit fatter. You could play it like a 6 string if you want, its just another low string

how much is it worth?

i have a 1973 ovation balladeer that is in pretty good condition (could stand to be refretted, but plays well and sounds nice). anyone have any idea what it might be worth?

thanks

I just had something stuff up on my Floyd Rose

Hey,
I was just playing my guitar and doing some dive bombs with my floyd rose,.. its a Jackson Janpanese Dinky, and one time when i brought the bar back up to the standard postion.. i heard some sort of cracking noise...

my bridge is now parallel to the body. It used to be angled slightly above the guitar, as a result, all my strings are higher in pitch.. except the D, which is now mysteriously lower(way lower), no strings are broken?? and i cant take it into a store for a few days due to public holidays....

Does anyone have any idea waht happend? and what to do about it?

Re: I just had something stuff up on my Floyd Rose

I'd check the tremelo springs, and knife edge pivots.

Springs do stretch eventually and the knife edges sometimes need grinding when they lose their edge.

Ben
http://www.bensnet.fsnet.co.uk

Something else i noticed about the problem

Thanx for all the help you guys have been giving me...

I just also noticed that the saddle for the D string is not fixed to the bridge as the others seem to be. If i push down on the D saddle, it moves by itself, if i push down on another the whole bridge moves.

Re: I just had something stuff up on my Floyd Rose

: It sounds like you may have had a heavier gauge string installed w/o adjusting the internal rose springs. I understand the floyd rose should be flush, or parallel, to the body when it was adjusted properly. if you were dive bombing from a point that was out of tension range you may have cracked some part of the internal spring mechanism

Wireless guitars?

I have seen many guitarists on stage without leads, the ultimate for roaming and the ability to get rid of the speghetti that builds up.
Does anyone know what they use for the IR/Radio unit (both ends), what it is and either where i can buy one (in the UK) or the schematic for one.

I would try nadywireless.com for wireless guitar pickup
and microphones. Maybe he can provide you with some information on a local distributor, etc. Know he makes several wireless options for guitar.

fender buzz

I need help stoping all this buzz from my tele-thinline can anyone help me?.......

Re: fender buzz

: I need help stoping all this buzz from my tele-thinline can anyone help me?.......

The string buzz is probably caused by the action on your tele. You have to make the action higher.

Re: fender buzz

Rasing the action will hopefully help, like was said earlier..

however, on my old guitar (which was one of those $300 guitar + amp, guitars) i had the same problem, i raised the action to the point of agony for my hands... and the buzz still remained, i took it to a store and the guitar tech their said that my frets were unevenly filed.. and that was causing the buzz...

Re: fender buzz

Moo

Re: fender buzz

Is it the strings buzzing or your pickups buzzing when you are not playing and the volume is on?
If it is your pickups you can check two things.
One try and move away from your amp, teles love to buzz and fi a light is on the same frequenct as it then she will make noise.
Second make sure that the electrical tape seperating the pick ups from the rest of the body, underneath the pickups is still there.
If it is still ther ethen go and get some more of that kind of tape and pu tmore on your guitar. See if that helps.

Here's some stuff that may or may not help.

I've seen those go for at least $2,000, but as much as $2,400. That guitar is valuable because its out of production, and the fact that it was full with features

I would be interested in buying the EVH if it's still for sale

String Set Tension

Where do (if they do) guitar manufacturers list the
recommended string set tension for various models.
I know they mostly ship with light gauges standard,
but there must be some limit.
Thanks

The standard nut, could take from .08-.13 string tension, thats about the limit. For instance, you can't put bass strings on a guitar. Any package saying guitar strings can be used. I have never seen anything go above .13. This is for any guitar.

The Guitar Man

Re: Anyone Own an Anderson Guitar?

I've got a Gretch Orange Hollow Tele. What I can tell you is that I find that the sound of the pickups is probably the understated aspect of the guitar. Just by changing the volume knob you get a huge range of tonal colors. And the thing is light as a feather. I don't know the woods. Anderson use a lot of different woods but I have never taken the time to find out what is in this one.

Oh and most importantly, I have stopped looking for a new guitar. This does it for me. And I am an incurable gear addict.

Now if I could find the perfect amp..........

I have a Anderson ( warmoth made, Anderson stamped ) Thinline telle, with a AAAAA quilt top. The electronics has been changed to a strat neck p.u. and an English made p.u. in the ashtray. Because the body is semi hollow the balance is depending on the weight of neck and hardware.
It looks fantastic but I'll either replace the strat p.u by a P90 - or sell it for $ 1500 :-

( neck is AAAA tigerstripe, gold hardware )

Ciao,
Lars
