Re: 7string 6string....

you can pick up a 7string ibanez ax7221 for $399. Don't know how it sounds but for the price what do you expect.

Re: 7string 6string....

It sure can be done- My band tunes to drop B - B F# B E G# and C# - On Occasion I tune the 2 high strings to F# and B - I Use REALLY REALLY heavy strings and have my guitar intonated this way - I use Dimarzio 13 Gauge - 56-13 Maybe this will work for you...

Re: 7string 6string....

duh D'Addario I meant-sorry 3rd shift gets to you...

Re: 7string 6string....

: I have an old guitar and I was thinking (dangerous) ... Why not restring my 6-string with 7-string strings (confused yet) I mean, strings 7-2, or course, I would sacrificing the high E string to the Gods of low tone, however... isnt that the point... Question is... would this work on a six string, or is there something magic about 7 strings... I have a floyd rose liscenced double locking tremolo if thats an issue.... What do you guys think ???

: thanks, ME

Exactly what I did...I didn't buy 7-string strings, though, just a heavy set of 6 (11-48). we have about three tunes that we play in this tuning (including a cover of Dream Theater's "The Mirror") and it works fine....It has even opened up my soloing ideas on the uppper neck.

Graph tech makes graphite saddles for the various
tunematic bridges. Depending on exactly what bridge
you Epi has you might be able to use the gibson nylon
saddles. If your bridge has the adjustable thumb
wheels like a Gibson they *should* fit; they won't
if you have the bridge that has the larger posts
that you need a screwdriver to adjust. No idea where
you can get the gibson ones though.

Why change them? I had a Les Paul that had the nylon
saddles and it didn't sound very good with them. Much
better sustain and tone with metal saddles imho. But
it's pretty impossible to break strings with the nylon
tho, but you can break the saddles.

I don't know how the graphite saddles sound from my
own experience, I;ve heard both pro and con about them..

NAPSTER LIVES.... for a while ,good or bad??

While the whole issue of Napster(good or evil)occupies
our daily thoughts, consider this:Imagine writing an album of tunes that you, slaved over, starved over and lost sleep over. Then you get a shitty deal from a the record company pimps to secure a chance at national exposure(touring). You get swindled by a faggot music lawyer, only to find that the general public can rape and pillage the product of your very soul, for free !!
Hey jerky,if you like my product buy it!! I'm not a two-dollar whore.Want my soul??? PAY FOR IT, DEADBEAT!!

PEDAL ALERT !!!

This is for all you vintage pedal owners.TAKE SPECIAL CARE OF YOUR STOMP-BOXES! Alot of techs. don't want to fix these boxes because there's no money in it, and don't want to bother. And if you do want them fixed, it'll cost you your first born child. Over the past couple of years I've practiced "SAFE EFFECTS" managment.
When not in use, store your boxes in a sandwich-bag or
somthing.Dirt and moisture can wreak havok on the resistors ,diods, and circuitry.A lot of components are
carbon based, air can also effect them.
Beware of people auctioning these boxes.Look at picture
of pedal. This should tell you if the pedal has been abused.Flood them with questions,if you are already familiar with the unit.
Use the proper adaptor, always.Certain pedals may have different VOLTAGE, AMPERAGE requirements.Using the wrong adaptor can either FRY your pedal or cause it not to function properly.
I give "THE FINGER" to all you lazy-assed techs who won't help us out. I give "TWO FINGERS" to Roland(BOSS)
Their web site sucks and they're difficult to deal with!!
Good luck, watch your back fellow players

DiMarzzio - Fred

Does anyone have some input on the DiMarzzio Fred pickup. Also interested in Air Norton.

GO TO DIMARZIO's website. They have a realaudio of all of their pickups. My reccomendation is ethier an Evolution, or an X2N

Re: DiMarzzio - X2N

Had a friend who used the X2N pick-ups.When cranked, got lots of output, but the tone got muddy. So I went
Seymore Duncan,Bill Lawerence,Carvin M22.

I have to completely dissaggree, my X2N stays clear no matter how cranked I'd be skeptical of his rig. The tone zone from Dimarzzio is also s good pick up but not high output

Re: DiMarzzio - Fred

I heard the FFREDS pick-ups are garbage !!
Good luck

Air norton

I'm interested to slap the Air norton in my Strat

Is this a good idea or do I have to buy something else?! (sorry my bad english)

HELP! looking for the right pickups....

ok....I recently bought a brand new Ibanez GRX20 for $160 (which aint bad) I need to replace the crappy factory pickups (2 humbucking). Was thinking about EMG 81's...but I would like some other opinions. thanks

-Thomas

Re: HELP! looking for the right pickups....

EMG's are alright,but I prefer passive pick-ups.Seymore
Duncan makes very good pick-ups.The SH-4 is fat sounding, warm and clear.SH-5(custom)is one of my favorites. It's not as powerful as some(14.5-15K ohms)but when cranked, has razor sharp clarity and really screams.Bill Lawerence pick-ups are sharp, hot, and nasty.Dmarzio PAF pro is best pick-up they make.
Hope this helps

Re: HELP! looking for the right pickups....

i'm making a rock electric guitar and i want to know the best type of pick-ups for it thanx

Re: HELP! looking for the right pickups....

Some seymour duncan dealers even have an exchange deal where you can trade within 30 days for a different p/u, which I thought was great if you're not sure what exactly you're looking for

Re: HELP! looking for the right pickups....

I need some used EMG 81 pickups for agood price

Re: elec guitar to comp = possible? what do i need? (nt)

a good distortion pedal. if u got the $$$$$$ a line 6 pod. then u need a decent home recording programy thing. i got audiowerks 2 with logic audio. there's lots of new hard disk recording stuff. but yeah, go with spending the $$$$ on cpu recording, cause thats where it's all headed. and its just better!

What part of Queens? I am going to be 16 in a month, and I have been playing for about 6 years, and I was just wondering. I really don't trust people over the internet, so I am probably not interested, but yet curious

mesa boogie ANY GOOD DEALERS?

I am looking for any decent priced mesa boogie dealers.

Re: mesa boogie ANY GOOD DEALERS?

: I am looking for any decent priced mesa boogie dealers.

FYI Brian just so you know all certified Mesa dealers have to sell all new equipment at Mesa/Boogie factory set pricing. I dont know how they did this but basically the price is the same in any store that is an authorized Boogie Dealer in the country. That list is available from Mesa Boogie and can be down loaded from their web site or sent to you by calling the company and requesting a catalog!

The Guitar Center in Dallas was authorized by Mesa/Boogie to clear their existing stock at substantial savings during their Labor Day "List" sale. I bought a Maverick 212 combo for $800. I don't know if that deal is still valid, since this is usually a one day event, but they had several items at killer deals.

Guild, Matin or other HELP!!

I have recently been looking around for an acoustic guitar in the $500-$600 range and after determining that electronics weren't that important to me, I went through hundreds of acoustics and finally I have narrowed it down to either the Guild D4 or the Martin DM.

I played both these guitars extensively and I just can't decide which one suits my needs the best. I really like the woodier tone of the guild, but the Martin has a really great balanced tone and feels nicer around the neck, with slightly better action than the Guild.

If there is anyone out there with experience in both of these guitars, please help, or if you want to confuse me even more, suggest a better guitar than either of these two for under $600.

Re: Guild, Matin or other HELP!!

Martin makes an excellent acoustic guitar. However, if you plan on spending less than $1500 then you better look elsewhere. Otherwise you are paying for name.
I recommend a solid wood guitar. Larrivee makes very good solid wood guitars for that price range and up. Also a used Taylor 300 or 400 series would fit the bill. You mentioned playability. Taylor has excellent playability.
I'm personally not a big fan of Guild acoustics anymore. Hope this helps.

Re: Guild, Matin or other HELP!!

you can get a decent martin for under 1500 bucks...i just bought a martin D35 new with case for 1600 with tax and the d35 is a higher end guitar, im sure you could get a new solid wood martin for a little over a thousand, and probably find a used D35 for well under a thousand on ebay. the sound of a solid wood guitar is far superior to that of a laminate guitar like the ones your looking at.
