Re: strat fingerboards

: I am new to guitars. Is there any difference between a maple and rosewood fingerboard except the type of wood used? Does it affect quality or sound or anything like that? Thanks!

I'd go along with what Joe and Gil have said. Personally, I've never felt particularly comfortable with any maple boarded guitar, so that though I was originally quite scepticval about there being much difference I need to acccept that there is. It's more about what it feels like to lpay, though for me. Maple necks do sound a little brighter, I think, but I don't dislike that sound when others play it, so its not the sound that's putting me off. Try a few and see what you think. In any event, as one of the others said, the board is not going to be a crucial issue - your amp, pickups, playing style, whether you use a pick or your fingers, all of those things will fundamentally influence your sound.

Re: strat fingerboards

Yes, there is a difference. Maple is a very hard, dense wood. It will have a brighter tone and it will feel a little different than a rosewood fretboard. Also, unlike rosewood, maple must be finished. Rosewood is a softer wood and doesn't need to be finished which is why it has a warmer, softer tone. I have Strats with maple and rosewood necks and there is a difference.

aging my strat

Re: aging my strat

: can annybody tell me how to age my stratocaster

i have a refinished strat from the mid seventys and you would never know it was refinished. i took a look at where my hand was coming in contact with the body and wore through the paint with some real fine sandpaper. i also walk around with it strapped on and am not afraid to bang into stuff like doorways etc...i also chipped up the bottom edges and the bak edge quite a bit (throgh the paint so you can see the primmer below the paint. this guitar looks like it has been around the block. my belt buckle does a pretty good job on the back. i sometimes sit afew feet away from it and throw things(like my lighter or something) at it. i love the look! check out some magazines and stuff to see some photos that show the wear spots on some famous guy's guitar and apply your (distress) to those places. good luck and have some fun because you really can,t screw up.

Picking stamina

Hi all. Any suggestions how to increase my picking stamina? I play death metal and after two or three songs my right wrist and forearm are so tired that its impossible to maintain picking rythm with my fellow guitarist and my playing gets sloppy and noisy. If i use only very light palm-mute i don't tire that easily, but its necessary to really lay my palm on the strings to get an aggressive sound. Should i build my forearm muscles or do i just pick the wrong way? Know any good excercises?

Re: Picking stamina

Hi, try this url out, it´s very good for building right hand technique.

Re: Picking stamina

Thanx! fantastic, i identified lot of the problems right away. I've been neglecting my right hand for far too long now. "if your left hand tempts you, cut it off." =)

sheet music needed

Hi
I am learning to play the guitar and need some sheet music to bring some variety in my studying. No tabs, but sheet: lines with dots.
I have been searching, but can find only polka and stuff like that.
Does anyone know of sites with rock and popmusic ?

Thanx in advanz

Re: sheet music needed

:Any tablature constructed using Powertab (version 1.7) will include musical notation
as well as tablature. It's a great program, and there are many sites around that are full
of music files for this program. Just download Powertab 1.7 (it's free), unzip it (Winzip if you
have it), and search for those tabs.

www.crosswinds.net/~hairrockers has some really good stuff, for example.

Good luck

This is going to depend where you are. If you're in Northern England, probably £1000 to £1500. A little more, perhaps, around London. Elsewhere, no idea, I'm afraid. If you're near Leeds and sellling it for under £600 though I know someone who might be interested (which is also why I have an idea how much they cost!)

CHORUS EFFECT????

What exactly does a chorus pedal do?? What bands/artists use
them? When? Are they usefull or handy in any way??

Re: CHORUS EFFECT????

Hmm.I don't know how to explain technically.Choruses, flangers, phase shifters are really types of delays. They
generaly work on SINE WAVES manipulation. They are classified as signal modulators.Choruses give you a bath-tub type sound with a swirling effect.Andy Summers
(Police),Robert Fripp(King Crimson),Funkadelic,Prince,
and a host of others used this sound. It was the main
effect used back in the 80's.They are VERY useful,
especially for vocals! If I'm not using reverb on vocal
tracks, then I'll use Chorus to give them depth and color.Voodoo Labs makes a very good chorus,Maxons are V.G.,Small Clones are wild little gizmos!I also like the Boss CE-3,but I think the old MXR(big, yellow)are the best ever!
Hope this Helps

TC elec for the sweetest chorus

Martin Guitar comparison

I'm pondering the purchase of a Martin OM 21. The OM 28V is available for about $700 more. I want the best guitar for sound and playability and wonder if the OM 28V is significantly a better guitar or is the OM 21 a good guitar without the fancy detail?

Re: Martin Guitar comparison

I own a Martin and although I love it, still the best guitar I've ever played was a Santa Cruz. I'd check one of those out before you make your mind up. However, they start at around $2k so perhaps that's out of the range.

my gt3 and marshall compatability

where is the best setting on my marshall for an almost flat setting on the amp to take full advantage of the gt3. the head is a 50 watt baby grand head (the one with the small emblem) some setting on the amp only allows a full growling tone with no clean capability. seems the fender bassman has the best overall tone and versality...any suggestions

I own a 1983 Gibson Flying V and I want more edge for solo-playing. What should I do? pickup change? an overdrive-compressor box? poor technique?
