trying to bridge tune a guitar...

I am trying to bridge tune a guitar someone gave me. I cannot get the open low E to match the 12th fret. Is there some instruction or website that has instructions on bridge tuning electric guitars?

Please help! Thanks!

Re: trying to bridge tune a guitar...

Sounds like your intonation is way off, try moving your bridge slightly if you have already tried moving the saddles, and you want to use the 12th fret harmonic to tune the guitar, then the 12th fretted note for comparison. Remember it is just a peice of wood with strings and you can do nothing but improve the sound by messing with the bridge. Good luck.

Crossroads

In the movie Crossroads, when the young music prodidgy is
playing Satan to free Willie brown, he plays a piece
with all the arpegios and what not to be able to keep
his soul and he beats the devil. I was hoping that
someone would know what that piece is called...

Re: Crossroads

That's a fun show, and the dual at the end was amazing. Sorry I have no idea what was played, but I think Steve Vai should have just kept his cool, started his runs in the right spot as to not run out of neck, and kicked some backside!

the piece is done by niccollo paganini, who was in the 18teen hundreds, extremly fast violin player. The song is one of his caporices i do believe. I wwas looking for the tab for it but with no luck.

Re: Crossroads

Hmm.I think it's a cello or violin sonata.I'm not sure
of the name. One of the other guitar gurus might know.

>>>>>>>>>>The piece is called 'Eugene's Trick Bag' and it's Steve Vai's loose interpretation of Nicolo Paganini's Caprice #5. I have the first issue of 'Guitar School' magazine where the entire 'Crossroads Suite' is tabbed in it's entirety. ('Butler's Bag', 'Headcuttin' Duel', and 'Eugene's Trick Bag'.)

Ibanez/Live playing

I have an ibanez rg470, and I was wondering what others feel about this guitar? And their experiences with it?
I'm going to play live, it's not very serious, just for fun really, but I was wondering how Ibanez is for playing live. I've heard some people say that it's not very reliable, and the sound isn't too good without a backup??....(although I don't agree at all with this!). Since I don't have a long experience in playing live, I was wondering If some of you guys could help me out here.

Re: Ibanez/Live playing

Doesn't look like anybody responded and I'd assume you've played your live gig by now. So how did it go with the RG470? In my experience, if you are comfortable with the instrument, you are pleased with the sound, and people aren't turning away when you play, then rock on! I have played acoustic for years, but a softball injury to my left thumb a number of years ago left me with a 3rd degree tear of the UCL. Basically I have a lot of difficulty gripping and it never healed like it should have. Consequently it is almost impossible for me to play barre chords on my Washburn, which have a very close action. I have been shopping for an electric for several months now and I've settled on the RG470. I the neck radius and jumbo frets, which allow me and my bum thumb to play any barre any where on the fretboard. As far as sound goes it is such an individual taste that I believe it is almost impossible to go on what someone else says. Obviously you will get diffrent sound quality from different pickups and strings. But then again, what are you playing through? I play with a church band (one that actually rocks). We run everything through the house board, no amps on stage. Our sound technicians do a great job of balancing the tonal quality of the music from the sound booth. The other guys that play electric use DigiTech effects pedals and I will be using a BOSS ME-30. So there's that to consider also as far as how the sound goes. The one thing that I have noticed in reviews of the RG470 is that most users find it extremely reliable--yes, I'm sure there are some who don't, but overall the consensus seems to favor the RG470 for reliability. If you can deal with the Floyd Rose trem and your guitar is set up right, you should be in good shape. The only problem is if you break a string during a set. No thirty-second string changes with the Floyd.

Hope this helps--enjoy your music!

John

IBANEZ WEBSITE????????????????????????????

Hey guys, I need help. I found a website that gave a great listing for all Ibanez models from the 70's to the 90's. It gave details on each guitar.
The problem is now I can't find it again. My history does not go back far enough. ANY help would be appreciated. Thank you.

How? Andy Summers guitar sound

I listened to Zenyatta Mondata the other day for first time in ages. I'm just curious to know how Andy Summers gets his guitar sound on 'De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da'. I know he uses a telecaster and racks of posh eighties effects that these days would fit into your average cheapo multi pedal.
Any ideas?

Re: How? Andy Summers guitar sound

Hmm.Andy Summers,from what I remember,used a lot of stereo choruses,flangers and delays.Also,palm muting
arppegios near the bridge pickup.
Hope this helps

Just check out the Toronto Campus!! And also, take a look at some of the other players attending our other campuses!!!

Re: How? Andy Summers guitar sound

More than likely a stereo chorus, Fender Stratocaster, and a Marshall half stack... and some delay on the brige section of the song. I am no expert, but a huge fan of Andy Summers. I do not think he used his Tele on this one... but it's always a possibility

look at:
web.tiscali.it/andatta/menu.htm

this website tells all including delay times.

the sound on the intro of secret journey !!!

i know that Andy was explaining it in a video..but can anyone explain to me how he acheived that "cloudy" sound in the intro of secret journey??thanks

Re: How? Andy Summers guitar sound

Well, only andy knows the answer to this one. for some help, go to your friendly web search engine and type in ZENYATTA ANDATTA, go to the site and look under the equipment submenu. This will tell you what he was using in those days and the change in equipment through the years including what he's using now. Good luck

Re: How? Andy Summers guitar sound

Andy Summers didn't to the best of my knowledge use rack gear back then. What he did do though was get Pete Cornish to build him an effects pedalboard. Within this board was put a Boss CS2 Chorus, Boss Delay (not sure what one), Boss OD1 Overdrive, plus a host of other goodies that escape me. He used this rig right up till the Synchronicity tour. Add onto that two Marshall 4 x 12's and two Marshall heads (and in some cases half stacks) and you have the Andy Summers live rig from the Police days. You can actually see the pedalboard in some shots in the Synchronicity live video.

Only Pete Cornish and Andy know what was in the original pedalboard, you could do worse than to contact Pete Cornish by going to www.petecornish.com and ask him straight. Be patient as he's an extremely busy man but he will answer eventually. He won't tell you how to wire up a borad of your own but he should tell you what effects he installed into the board for Andy, you see Pete Cornish keeps schematics of every board he's ever built.

Hope this helps.

Re: HELP-need help with floyd rose

: : How do you change the pickups on a floyd rose floating bridge with out throwing the tremolo out of balance
Easy, put something under the rose to keep it stable, take off strings, take out PU'S, install new PU'S, restring, and.....Play

Re: HELP-need help with floyd rose

: How do you change the pickups on a floyd rose floating bridge with out throwing the tremolo out of balance
You should find a chunk of wood to block the tremolo from moving. There are also special [cheep] plastic tools that slide under the trem to secure it when changing strings. Also remember to solder the ends [ball end] to keep the sting from stretching [if, of course you have the floyd proII]. By doing this, you'll notice a great increase in sustain..

Re: HELP-need help with floyd rose

: this is the first time i use a guitar with floyd rose and i dont know how to use it or what is it for. please help me! send me some information.

Re: HELP-need help with floyd rose

: How do you change the pickups on a floyd rose floating bridge with out throwing the tremolo out of balance
I find that using a deck of cards to slide under the bridge works good, that way you can adjust the height of the Floyd by adding or subtracting cards from the deck.
