Re: PUTTING A HUMBUCKER IN A STRAT
I put a duncan lil 59 in my strat. It is a single coil size humbucker. I put it in the bridge position and it rocks. I think for what you are looking for this would be a good way to go. Plus musicians friend has them for $50. Hope this helps.

Ovation Model 1624
I have an ovation Model 1624 that is absolutely mint with everything original and in a hard case. I don't think it's been played hardly at all, the cord is still in sealed manufacturesrs bag. Has owners manual. How can I find out if it's worth anything. (It's been sitting in it's casr for over 30 years.)
Thanks Please e-mail at me LLMS223@aol.com because I don't know how to check these messages again. = )

wiring an ibanez with fender selector
I was hoping that someone could give me a hand with replacing my pickup selector. I've got an Ibanez ex series electric guitar circa 1991 that I am replacing the pickup selector in. The one I removed was oem from Ibanez and the one I am replacing it with is a fender part. I have a single coil in the neck and middle position with a humbucker in the bridge. The connections on the two selectors are not laid out the same and I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions on how to wire the new selector so that I can have the same pickup combinations as the origional. The combos were Bridge, bridge+mid, mid, mid+neck, neck. I am not schematic literate so any help would be appreciated.

Jay Turser guitars
Anyone know anything about Jay Turser guitars, specifically
the 200c Les Paul
Re: Jay Turser guitars....not too bad ! !
Tried a Jay Turser S.G. I was very impressed!! Necks are cut nicely, fretboad seemed healthy and the pickups
weren't too shabby.I recommend these axes for any beginner, they're built well.I almost bought the S.G., but I really don't need another guitar.Check one out.
Good Luck

Buy a Jay Turser, swap out the pickups with new or used used USA-made pickups from Gibson, Fender, Ernieball, Seymour Duncan, and you'd have a pretty good guitar.

I swapped an old bass for one.Plays well , sounds good after minor truss rod tweaking... the pick-up advice is sound; replace 'em if you can afford to. Still slight fret buzz around 13th,14th fret E and A strings.Real nice to play for the price.
Its the SG copy I write of here; the gold top LP copy I looked at was rougher playing and had manufacturing flaws pretty much top to bottom. Cheers.

I obtained a Les Paul model from Junior Cain in Old Saybrook Ct. I have totally given up
on using my Powerhouse Strat for this one. I play it thru my Roland JC-120 and the tone
and playability of this JT is comparable, if not better than, any gibson or fender that I've
played. When you get the chance to get one grab it you'll never regret it. I'm presently
trying to find a Cherry red JT-135 ( es-335 copy) with a black pickguard. I know the power
and sustain will be above reproach. Good luck and don't hesitate to buy a JT. Ray

How many scales do I have to now??
Hellow all guitrplayers out in the world!!I just wonder how abou how many scaled do I have to know.I meen I'm not i beginner,I've played for two years.I just want to know wat äe the bacik scales??
Ohh..yeah...rigt and just a nother thing.I wonder if there i s.o who can play 32-notes at 210bph???
I can do it!!!!!!!
Have a nice time
none of 'em
you don't need to know any scales. if speed is the only concern, it's probably best not to know anything about music. music woud just get in the way. if you just stick to one note, you could probably play a lot faster anyway. in fact, you probably don't need all those strings. just take off all but one, rip out the frets, and thrash away. maybe you'll set a world record or something.
Re: How many scales do I have to now??
Hmm.If you can play that fast,I doubt you'll need any help from anyone. You sound alot like me when I first started. However,to your first question I'll say learn them all.Start with Minor and Major pentatonics, then the seven modes.Don't worry about the names, just learn them, then forget them.
Good Luck,SPEEDY !!

There is a recording of snoozer on Fat Cats Jazz label that Johnny wiggs did in his hospital room before he died.My grandmother knew Snoozer when she lived in Shreveport. When she was in New Orleans in the 70's, she went into the jazz hall of fame and asked if they had any records of Snoozer. They gave her the Fat Cats album. You can hear the hard walls of the hospital room in the record. It made her so sad to hear the record, she couldn't stand to listen to it so she gave it to me virtually unplayed. I still have it. She said that snoozer would show up at their house ad that they would go riding around in their Buick Roadmaster with him in the back playing his guitar. She said that he was the first person to play jazz on the guitar and the banjo. She also said he could sound like two guitars at once and that he could get a "pipe organ sound" out of his guitar. I assume she was referring to harmonics but i was unfamiliar with harmonics when she told me the story. She also said that Jack Teagarden(sp?)was in Los Angeles one time, drunk, and decided he wanted to hear Snoozer. So he got on the train, went to Louisiana, stayed drunk for most of the trip, saw Snoozer, sobered up then had his car sent out from California, and drove back. She said the record was just a shadow of what she heard in the back of the car and didn't want to listen to it. She also said that Snoozer liked to drink, and would kind of crash around town at peoples houses. They would hear that Snoozer was in town, find him, and go for a drive.I know my grandfater liked to drink too,she never mentioned it, but I bet she drove while Snoozer and Scott(grandpa)passed a bottle. That's all I know.Write if you hear more.

Maple or rosewood?
I'll be buying a new guitar soon (probably a Mexican Strat). Is there really much difference that I--a serious amateur w/ good ear, but relatively new to guitar (2 yrs)--am likely to notice between a rosewood vs. maple fingerboard?
Also, is there a better guitar out there than a Mex Strat for that little money (like, something with the sound and versatility of an American strat, but cheap)?
Thanks,
AMS.
Re: Maple or rosewood?
Hmm.Maple necks tend to make the guitar sound brighter,
where as rosewood necks have a darker, chunkier sound.
I've found that maple necks offer little resistance
when bending strings and playing fast. But rosewood has a bigger, beefier, tone.Ebony is my favorite,it's right in between the two. Maple does have one flaw.As the neck gets worn, the finish will come off or it'll need
to be replaced.Rosewood necks are usually "slabbed" on
top of a maple or ash neck and can be serviced easier.
Both are good for different reasons.
Good Luck
Re: Maple or rosewood?
i'm up for anything that saves dosh. save the pennies now & the £s ... what a load of rubbish!! Just get some new strings mate or drink the isopropyl
Are you on smack?
Right, right. Drink the isopropyl... save dosh... But what does that have to do with maple versus rosewood fingerboards?
: i'm up for anything that saves dosh. save the pennies now & the £s ... what a load of rubbish!! Just get some new strings mate or drink the isopropyl
Re: Maple or rosewood?
Well, your first question was answered by Eddie G. As far as the second question, if you want the American Strat tone but can't afford the American Strat price, the Mexi Strat is the closest for the least amount of money. Or, if you spend a little more then try the Japanese Strat. It is between the Mexican and the American. Good luck!
Rapidly "Corroding" Strings
There may yet be a quick and easy shortcut to keeping gunky, corroded strings from occuring too soon. I used to have this problem until I tried, out of desperation, the "alcohol bath".
This requires the of loosening all strings on the guitar and very carefully sliding aluminum foil under the loosened strings, with special care not to break any of the foil while making sure that it covers everything from the nut to the bridge. A generous application of common rubbing alcohol (I prefer *isopropyl* to *ethyl* for sheer alkalynity)with the use of a thin cotton cloth rubbed all up and down the strings, removes almost all the oxides, acids and any substance from the hands and fingers. Again, be careful not to tear the foil and allow the alcohol to seep onto the neck and body. I've done this for a long time and it hasn't failed to be of benefit. It's worth a try and nothing's lost but about an hour if it does fail. (I can't help but be ill-at-ease thinking about the use of WD40 over such a wide area of a guitar, despite the recommendations of more experienced specialists.)

Quick and easy?????
You call that quick and easy? for the time it would take to wrap strings i would rather spend the 4 dollares for a new set:
