Can anyone help me id an old battered SG I've acquired for next to nothing? Its cherry (and looks like its been dragged behind a car - very cracked glaze too), has a small Les Paul style raised scratch plate and an embossed single coil black neck pick up set on a steel plate (rounded each side of pick up). It has an obvious replacement bridge (cheap Japanese affair) and obvious replacement bridge humbucker - not sure what original was. The controls (one vol and one tone) are set on a rounded steel plate (like with pick up), tele style, but with a toggle selector switch (n, n/b, b) on the same plate. Also, it has dot inlays on the rose wood board (mother of pearl type) and a gold printed Gibson logo on the headstock. The truss rod cover is plain black. The machines are replacements, so no clues there. It has made in the USA stamped on the back of the headstock (just indentation), but no serial number that I can see.
Its got a lovely sound (I use it for slide), which is suprising when you see how it looks (although I love it).
Someone once told me it was a cheap early 70s version, but I'm not sure. I'd love to find out!!!!
My bass has recently started to have this static in the background. It is definitely not a typical buzz. I need to get it fixed but don't have time to take it in because of gigs. Does anyone know what might cause the static.

I'd check the cable you are using and also check the battery in the bass

Dude his string set up was - 0.013, 0.015, 0.019(unwound) 0.028, 0.038, 0.058, his guitars had fat frets and his action was high, the philosophy behind this, fat tone, hard work and something very big bold and original.

: Which would you rather have? a Martin D-1 or a Martin Shenandoah HD-28
I own a HD-28 Shenandoah I have personally tested it against at least 35 other Martin guitars..(D-28's, D-35's, 000-18's, etc.). The quality of the sound of my guitar I feel is better. The tone, volume, and brightness is second to none. The playability is excellent....My guitar is a pre-63... I have no hesitation to say "Play them both...buy the one you Like"

Shielded cable doesn't have the right resistance. Using it can lead to speaker/amp impedence mismatch, which could blow your amp. Quality speaker cable isn't too much of a hassle (Klotz cable is excellent) though I've had to solder my own jacks, cos the places I got it didn't have cable ready made up. I've heard that good mains cable (two wire) works as a substitute, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
From a dealer standpoint, every distributor sells them and they are all very similar, but I have never seen the maker's name anywhere, probably a company in Indonesia or China... (duh!)

HI mate George Lynch used to play for Dokken extremely fast and talented guitar player. However, Late 80s to early 90s metal with big hair doos, white trainers and lots of ramps on stage, Wicked tone though.
Anyone know where I can find the website for Acoustic? I've been going through pages of search engine results with no luck. Any page with info on the old 70's amps would be helpful, I recently bought an Acoustic 360/361 and am looking for info on all the other amps they produced. Thanks a bunch.

Re: which Martin?
Neither: I'd save up a few more bucks & buy a D-18,
D-18V, or D-28. Maybe check out a 0-18. I'll stick with the hand mades.

Does anyone know why shielded cable can't be used for speaker wire?
