It depends on a lot of factors. If it is a 1950 SJ then it could be worth up to $4,000 or so. But if it's in excellent condition, there is the possibility that its been refinished, or had parts replaced like the bridge, tuners, etc. which would dramatically impact the value (like down to $1000 to $1500). Anyone placing a solid value on it would need to check that stuff out.
According to Jason Becker's website, Joe Becker manages him and appears on Jason's new tribute album as well. I got the album and Joe freakin' shreds! But I just went to Joe Becker's website and on top of this he's producing some album with all these guitar greats on it. Of course I found this out after listening to him and MIKE ANTHONY FROM VAN HALEN chat for a minute via realplayer on the website. Howcome I've never heard of this guy before? Can anyone in here tell me more about him? Is he Jason's brother or something? What's the deal??

I recently aquired one in pretyy ratty condition for my step-son. Fortunatly my girlfriend was able to clean it up and get it working for around $20 in about 4 hours. I'm thinking about learning to play the guitar but am unsure of what a good starter guitar would be. My taste in music would steer me towards an acoustic. I'm also trying to stay on a budget so I don't want to overdo it. Any advice would be very appreciated! Thanks!
To bend you put your finger on the string below the note you are going to bend up to. Strike the string and push it up till you get the note/sound you want.
There are variations to this.
You canhave the string alreadt pushed up and then release the pressure to return to the note you are on
or you can push up release push up release to give a wavering effect
How far below or above the note you need to be you will have to experiment with

Unfortunately any mod you make will change the tone and sound. You can put some stacked coil humbucker or single coil slot humbuckers in a single coil slot. You might even get a better sound if you shop around and use good quality parts.

~~~~Electrics are tuned the same, but they do not use the same strings. I suggest Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys. But whatever you use, don't put acoustic strings on your electric.

It depends on the kind of tuners it has on it now. Chances are you can, but if you can't get replacements you could always just fill in the old screw holes, and put on new tuners. (I suggest Schaller).

if you just bought the classic or standard modle and it came with the jade type tuner keys,.. I just replaced mine with a set of grover 201's and they come so close to covering the old holes you don't notice until you start nit-picking the guitar,..and they line up with the other screw holes already in the headstock,.. the only thing I had to do was open up the thru holes in the headstock to .390in to accept the hub on the grover tuners body (but don't drill the holes all the way through so if you want to put the old tuners bck on their front side bushings will still press into the wood in the headstock.

The guitar is a dreadnaught cutaway with factory electronics. I would like to know it's approximate value, and what "SLM" stands for. Thanks. Rico
I had the guitar of which you speak growing up. There were at least two models made that year by Alvarez to commemorate the 60th anniversary of "St Louis Music". St. Louis Music is the company that distributes Alvarez guitars in the united states. The electronics are simple, and are passive (no power used at the guitar) and were rather poor because it was one of the early stabs at putting pickups in acoustics at the factory. The other guitar released that year commemorating the anniversary is much more sought after due to it's design...its a dreadnought with no circular soundhole, it has fillagree sound holes at the top and bottom just below and above where the neck meets the body (think Ovation's guitar design) and these sound holes were covered inside the guitar with paper filters. When I sold mine in the mid-1990's I got $300 in trade from an established guitar shop. I have no idea what they're worth now but seeing as how they're not as special as they seem (Alvarez releases anniversary guitars now like they're dollar bills) I doubt they've went up too much. Hope this helps!

yngwie malmsteen is the best. van halen wasn't really that awesome. at his bands prime he was very inovative but there are many guitarists that have passed him up. (to me) malmsteen, bettencourt, and petrucci are the best right now.

I would have to agree with that. Innovation shouldn't necessarily be mistaken for skill or talent. Clapton was an innovator but he couldn't hold a light to Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray. (My opinion)

I recently purchased through E-Bay an Epiphone Sheraton Gibson. Blonde, maple/birch, with rosewood fretboard, mother of pearl and abalone inlay on the headstock (vine) and fretboard (v design). There is no stylized 'E' anywhere on the instrument and the serial number (or perhaps the manufacturer's number) is printed on a label inside the Fhole but there is no stamped number on the headstock. The number inside the Fhole is: P49415 8817. Could this P represent a Philadelphia produced Epiphone from 1958-1960? The Epiphone has two nickle plated humbucking in black saddles. Tuning pegs are gold as are the bridge and bolted in tailpiece. The bridge and tailpiece are somewhat corroded which suggests some age?
I have been practing scales now,(major, minor) all that stuff..But i can't figure out how to scale over changing chords, even if the chord changes are slow its really hard..I have a question that i would be grateful is someone would solve.
When someone is playing certain chords like A, C, and D, does your solo have to fit with the exact timing with the changes ?.

This is a Gibson Southerner Jumbo 1950 ( authenticated by Gibson).. excellent condition and sound is great.

Malmsteen is the best, technically, and I`m not talking only about the speed. Although, musically, most of his solos are veeeeeery boring.

How Do you Solo Over Changing Chords
I have been practing scales now,(major, minor) all that stuff..But i can't figure out how to scale over changing chords, even if the chord changes are slow its really hard..I have a question that i would be grateful is someone would solve.
