Epiphone everly brothers reissue? good deal$$?? help!

hi,
ive been offered an Epiphone everly brothers reissue of the original gibson everly guitar.. model number sq180 for £140.
is this a good deal?

the guitar isnt mint, the scratchplate is coming away a little...? anyone know anything about these guitars??....other than tht they look good?

he also says tht the guitar has a slightly warm & restrained sound because of the large scratchplate?

i saw an ad for 1 in a guitar mag, priced at £189 new?...but ive been led to beleive tht they have now been discontinued?

i dont know what to do?...there are about 3 other guitars im considering buying, but they are all new, this is second hand.

the other guitars are:
an ovation adamas copy by stagg, electro acoustic - £140
epiphone J200 Acoustic - £279
epiphone hummingbird - £249

please help, im in need of some good advice.

thanks

Akron Band Seeks Drummer & 2nd Guitar Player

Singer/guitar player and bass player in Akron, Ohio seek new drummer and 2nd guitar player to complete the band. We are serious, experienced musicians looking for the same. Our sound is made up of driving guitars and melodic vocals in need of a hard hitting backbeat to complete the scene.
We don't cop anyone's style, but some of our influences are Guided By Voices, Cheap Trick, Pixies, The Cars, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Early AC/DC, and anything rock.
We have a demo in the works that will be available soon to anyone who is interested.
If you can practice two nights a week, and do a minimum of two shows a month after the band gets off the ground, please contact me at hombre_despierto@yahoo.com.

Re: Akron Band Seeks Drummer & 2nd Guitar Player

Takamine EC 350

I'm looking for either a volume pot or a preamp for a Takamine EC 350 F or M (not real sure of the model number). But, it's a Takamine electric acoustic with a preamp and 4 slider controls and a pull out volume.

I would appreciate any help...

buzzing in my amps

I hear a very slight buzzing or humming in my Marshall amp, and also in the amp feature of my Yamaha sequencer that disappears when I touch the connecting cable or my guitar. Should I turn some knob down, off, what? Or is this normal? Any help would be simply lovely. Thanks

Re: buzzing in my amps

sounds like a grounding problem of some sort to me.
but buzzing can come from a bunch of things. i have an outlet in my room that makes my guitar amp buzz a little. the others in the room don't do that, it probably is the ground wire. if it goes away when you touch it, it is probably a ground issue in something..
try different wires.
try another outlet.
try another outlet in another grid. (usually another room.)
check the wire and the plug on the amp too. (you never know, could be that)
when i use my headphones, i notice my strat buzz more than when i use just the amp.

I also notice a buzz more when i have the ac adapter for my effects closer to the guitar. it helps to put the adapter as far away from the guitar as possible. if the guitar is facing the other way it helps alot too.

Sometimes pickups or wires pick up buzzing from electrical things in the room. like a light. Single coils sure love to pick up hum from lights.

sometimes a poorly sheilded wire can do that too.

Your guitar is grounded thru the bridge to the strings to you. (not very ideal actually.)
so if you touch the strings sometimes, or the bridge, you might notice less hum. As far as that goes, other things that can affect hum are:
the wire going to the bridge, the pickups, the wiring inside the guitar, the connections.

If your guitar doesnt have good sheilding tape inside it, or sheilding paint, then its a good idea to get some and put it in there. it cuts down hum.

hope one of these ideas helps. they arent expensive things to "fix" if usually, but it takes a while to figure out what it is sometimes.

Buzz can also happen if you have too many earth wires in your loop.

For example, if you use a multi-way adapter to plug your amp and effects processor, and they all have earth wires in them (which they are likely to do), dissconnect the ones from your amp and processor (tape them up safely though!)

Make sure your multi-way is earthed though - I used to use a circuit breaker plug as well.

It's not the only reason amp buzz happens, but it's a possible cause.

Sigma Banjo

I know its not a guitar but I am trying to find out info on a Sigma 5 string I own. Sigma with a sideways M at the top..."or a Latin E?" Mother of Pearl diamond/cross patterns on the neck, looks like ebony on the neck but walnut back on the head, wooden pick up...purchase late 70's. Looking for make #, and approx value. Great condition.

IBANEZ 7 String Bridge Question

I'm wondering if I can put a fixed Ibanez 7 string bridge on my Universe. This floating bridge is ridiculous to keep in tune.

Re: IBANEZ 7 String Bridge Question

Have you had the guitar setup properly by someone who really knows floating, double-lock trems? (Hint: Don't take it to someone who stopped learning about guitars after the Stratocaster peaked.)

Re: IBANEZ 7 String Bridge Question

You can put a piece of wood between the spring holder
thing and the wood of the guitar.
This way you can still use the fine tuners and lock
the nut.
Its kind-of hard to explain where to put the piece
of wood.
I would be glad to email you a picture.
The set-ups I have on my 7 strings are solid.
Also with a fixed bridge you can do a dropped A
tuning without tweaking the other strings.
This costs basically nothing and it can be removed at anytime.
I hope I helped
