SG trussrod...
Any one know where i can gte a white gibson SG standard trussrod cover with the SG letters in black? many thanks for your help, Im just f@ckin' up my SG...just added a third pickup:)
Alex
Re: SG trussrod...
The answer this time is not WD music. You have to make your own using a 3 ply pickguard or similar material. It can be custom engraved at a trophy shop.
Re: SG trussrod...
ive seen a cream coloured one, and black too, i think it was at 'Allparts' but not white.
sorry

Gibson Nighthawk noisey noisey
My Nighthawk is very noisey. I opened up the back
and found out that there is no shielding in the cavity
I also tested to see if the grousnd wire was really
attatched to the bridge and it was. Meaning i do have a dead short as it should be whaen guits are groundedd properly. still 60 cycle hum is heard on
every pick selection. What should I do.
Re: Gibson Nighthawk noisey noisey
if it were me i would put a meter on it and test earth continuity back to the jack plug to the the pickups and all over the hardware. as you say it definatly suggests an earth short.

I went ahead and shielded the whole guitar with copper tape and continuity tested the tape
to make sure I had a closed cercuit form pick up cavitiy to the eclectronics to the bridge. I also soldered a new wire through out to ground. But it is still buzzing. I got the instructions from guitarnut. What now?

Guitar Cleaning
I just got a new Fender Acustick Guitar and dont know how to clean it. I dont know if I should us just water or wood cleaner becasue of the polish, and I dont want to wreck it so please HELP ME!
Re: Guitar Cleaning
use a household spray polish, the kind you polish your table tops with, in UK we have a wax free polish which doesnt smear. you can also buy dedicated guitar cleaning polishes which are very good, fender do an excellent one in co-op with mcguire.
Chorus Pedals
I'm looking for a smooth, rich Chorus that can still sound a bit blues-y. Anyone got any tips?
Re: Chorus Pedals
Boss chorus ensemble pedal CE-5, ive played one of those and it was very good, i dont think you can beat the boss pedals for chorus, and of course they are built like a sherman tank.
Re: Chorus Pedals............Ibanez CS-9
Distortion/Overdrive friendly,rich sound,good vibrato and stereo.
LEGENDARY!
help on learrning how to tab
i am just learning how to play and i dont know anything about tabs or anything pleasesssss help me
Re: help on learrning how to tab
:well first off, you can go two ways, first you could just learn tabs and play off that. Or you could learn actual chords and musical theory. I suggest the latter of the two. But if you want to learn how to read tabs, it is not that hard.
1. Read left to right
ex- read the tabs like you read a book
2. You can't usually get the rythem of a song from tablature, you have to listen to the song and then play to the song
3. Ex of tabs
e(top string, nearest to you)---------------------
a------------------------------------------------
d------------------------------------------------
g------------------------------------------------
b------------------------------------------------
e-very bottom(thinnest)----------------------------
Just play what you see in the order it comes

epiphone les paul
Can any one rate the Epiphone les paul? Is the custom that much better than the standard? How does the 100 series compare?
Re: epiphone les paul
the 100 series are s**t neva use one. but the customs dont infact have a better sound compared to the standard. if i was you id bye the standard. customs play and look no where near as gud as the standards.
i used a epiphone les paul i wouldnt rate it much worse than my gibson. i still use my epiphone as my backup, their reli nice guitars.
Re: epiphone les paul
I've kinda narrowed it down to the Alpine white Custom ($600) or the 3 Pick up Black Beauty Custom ($740) thanks!

Feedback
Hi, i am currently using a Gibson SG Srtandard through a marshall AVT275 and often use a BOSS PW-10 V-WAH pedal. When i turn the gain knob on the amp up to about 6 or and crank up the gain on the pedal i get so much feedback and thye pickups pick up even the slightest movement. The AVT275 has 4 channels, Acoustic simulator, Clean and OD1/OD2. Which channel should i play through and how could i get the metal sounf i want without so much feedback?
Re: Feedback
You could:
- Move away from the amp.
- Turn down the volume on the amp.
- Roll off some treble on the amp.
- Turn down the volume on the guitar.
- Roll off some treble on the guitar.
- Wear a space helmet, put the reverb on full and be one with the feedback.
- Sell off all that 21st century Marshall valvestate crap on E-bay and whip out an acoustic.
Seriously - for your metal sounds you should be playing the OD1/OD2 channels. Just screw with the volume and EQ (presence too) on the amp coupled with volume and tone settings on your gitbox until you find the magic zone. Remember- you may have to sacrifice overall sound quality to get rid of your screechies at "metal" volumes.

Re: Feedback
New pickups? please elaborate a bit on that Trev. are the stock SG pickups prone to feedback? please enlighten us with your infinate wisdome.
Re: Feedback
Lee you know better than that, im no gibson master like you, i think what most any guitar ive had come into my personal shop (aka bedroom) that has had a feedback issue such as one gibson flying v, it was bad pickups or humbuckers, though i do have a paraffin waxer its not pressurized therefore it doesnt do much justice, and no its not a cosmetic either. i was just suggesting the idea of the pickups bein bad. And i only have infinite wisdom towards floyds, just not the best infinite, take luck! Trevor

Re: Feedback
i think you are overcooking your gain, i would only use 1 gain control, that one on the amp, bypass the wah and see if you can get the sound you want by using your OD channels, if you want a metal sound and cant find it on your amp then i suggest you get yourself a Boss MT-2 pedal, when using the pedal use the clean channel, obviously keeping the volume down and taking off some treble will help with the feedback problem too.
Re: Feedback
Hmm. Overdrive is volume. The pedal has a volume. The Guitar has a volume and the amp has volume plus overdrive....That's too much volume!
In live situations,it's best to keep the Dist./OD level about 9 o'clock.Amp on 6 o'clock.
In your case,I would put the OD pedal on 7 or 8 o'clock and use it ONLY as a booster.
LET THE AMP DO MOST OF THE WORK
Set the amp's dist. to match your CLEAN volume setting. This is for "crunch rythym" sound.
Then, kick in the pedal for Lead(solo) sounds.
Thats a basic setup for live stuff.
Question...if you have an OD1 and OD2 channel...why do you need a pedal??
Hope this helps
