Crate BV120HB
Guitar Player had a review of the Crate BV120HB a couple of months ago, but the dealer web sites indicate it is discontinued. Did Crate issue a replacement amp or rename this one?

Old Gretch ??
Can anyone help ? I have a Gretch guitar that was my Grandfather's. Story has it, that he paid 300.00 for it in the fifty's from a pawn shop in Atlantic City. From what I've found out so far, I think it's from the twenty's and the serial number ( your not going to believe this) is 7777 and is stamped in the head of the peg board. It is sunburst in color, hollow body and I think it is in almost perfect shape considering the age. Can anyone help in finding out any and all info about this guitar.
Thanks
Fred

Whammy
Hey all,
I have a Digitech WH-4 reissue and to be honest am fed up with its unreliability. I only use it for the whammy mode as it is. I’ve been told that a WH-1 is much better, but living in New Zealand, it’s hard to come by anything slightly interesting. I can bring them in but it costs a lot. Does anyone know of a different pedal that does a whammy pitch shift like the Digitech one?
Cheers,
Karlos

Contessa guitar
I have a Contessa guitar that was given to me 30+ years ago. Can anyone give me any information that would help me to learn more about it?
Thank you very much!
Now what do i do????
I decided to make a homemade himidifier for my acoustic Guild 12-string. I went and got our travel soapdish from the bathroom, put a sponge that was wet and wrung out inside, put it inside my guitar and closed the case for 8 hours.
When I opened the case, I noticed that now the guitar's interior smells like soap!! Even worse, it smells like IRISH SPRING!! Gone is my lovely smell of maple and spruce that I loved so dearly!
What do I do now? Is this a permanent mark on my guitar's fragrance?? Say it isn't so!!
Re: Now what do i do????
how about giving it a rinse with some spring pine Wash and Go shampoo, that gives a nice fragrance, or maybe hang one of those car freshners in the soundhole, the things shaped like a pine tree!! i even suprise myself with these suggestions sometimes. i oughta be getting paid for this!

Re: Now what do i do???? LOL....thats funny!
Oh my god! LOL...thats a new trick,I never heard of!
Take you guitar out of the case, leave the case open and the guitar out in a warm (not hot)room for a day or so.Dude, that kind of thing can DESTROY your instrument.
Re: Now what do i do???? LOL....thats funny!
Common sense tells us not to do some of these things, maybe we should start a new series, you know like 'America's dumbest criminals', and 'pets that ATTACK!' maybe we should should have 'Guitars that bit back!!'
'well Mike it all went wrong when i took the guitar out of the case, the guy down the shop said i should take it to the nearest swamp and throw it in a few times, so i did, and then i took it home and hung it above the fireplace for 5 days to dry off, then i nailed it to a tree and let the local birds nest in it for the spring, and just look at it now!! its ruined!!, i took it back to the shop and the guy says hes never seen neck warping like it, he said it remided him of his fishing pole under full strain from a 200lb marlin.
Artificial harmonics
Ive been playing the guitar for quite a while now and it was only the other day when i came across my first song with artificial harmonics in, i seriously have problems getting the same sound as the one in the song, infact i find it pretty difficult to get any sound at all, anybody have any advice? Much appreasiated in advance :D
Re: Artificial harmonics
try choking up on the pick. You need to mute the string with the tip of your thumb almost simultaneously during the picking process. I can get a Pinch alost anywhere between the ends of both pickups but starting out, if you are playing the 1-4 frets then you should be trying them right about the rythym pickup. Move down the body as you move down the neck.
Re: Artificial harmonics
Andrew pretty much said it.Around the rythym pick up is where the 24th fret would be.These are strong, stable harmonics.
By striking the note and scraping the string with your thumb(same time),you can get the "double octave' harmonic. We used to call this "pinch harmonics".Follow your ears...you'll find it.
Good Luck

fannin acoustic guitar
i bought a fannin acoustic about 15 years ago. i can't find a model number on it anywhere. the serial number is 30450978, i'm guessing the last 2 numbers indicate the year of manufacture. if anyone can give me any idea who made this guitar or how much it's worth give me a yell
bass amp vs reg six strng amp
I play the six and seven string guitar, I am wanting to know the
difference between a bass amp and guitar amp in reguards to the subjects of
input Impedance 22kOhms(the bass) and Impedance 3.9MOhms (input
impedence on a reg guit amp)Are these the items that are the major
differences? How do they effect tone are there other factors to take in to
concideration? I don't need a real in depth definition. I had always heard
that "in the day" lots of reg (6 stringers) guitarists used the fender
bassman head does anybody know how would affect a regular 6 or seven
string guit.?
hofner guitars
i would like to know something more about hofner extra thin, single cutaway, one pickup, with a violine key on the headstock. (gold letters on the headstock)

Question about guitar
Hi. I'm Rachelle Kirk, I'm 16 years old and I have a certain antique guitar. My twin sister bought it about 5 months ago, and I don't know anything about it. I was wondering if you could give me some ideas on what kind of guitar it is and maybe how old it may be. If you need a picture, I would be happy to take one, so just give me an e-mail address and I'll send a couple pics. Thanks for your time.
Re: Question about guitar
a desription of the guitar and a name / serial number model number, colour, shape, would help out.
pedals and fx loop
please settle arguement. what pedals go in front of amp and which can go thru the loop! thanks
Re: pedals and fx loop
any pedal can go in front of the amp, and any pedal can go in the effects loop, most people i know run the stuff through the front, as god intended.
Guitar Strap Question
Someone tell me how to get the strap on! There is one button on the bottom where I could attatch the strap, and the other side has a string on it, what the hell am I suppose to do with the other side of the strap?
Thanks
Re: Guitar Strap Question
accoustic or electric? the string is meant for accoustic guitars with no 'button' on the top of the guitar and you would tie the string around the headstock, i think if you take the string off you will be left with a hole which you then attacth to the second 'button'.
Re: Guitar Strap Question
Oh I got it, thanks for answering. I have an acoustic.
High E notes resinating in other strings after being plucked
I've rearly played other guitars so I don't know if this is a common thing. The best way to discribe what my problem is if you pluck the open high E string and then touch the string to end the noise it keeps going. I couln't understand why this was happening untill I touched the lower E string and A string and discovered they were vibrating(I can even hear it when my room is quite). When any high E note is played the resonation from that note travels to the lower E and A string. The noise is faint but more then strong enough for the pickups to play it clearly. The real problem with it is if you play an F note right after an E note the remanent E noise clashed and sounds awful. The lower E and A string will not do this if they are tuned too high or low, only when perfectly tuned. Thats the worst clashing sound, some other notes do it aswell. I'd say the second worst note is high G note, it causes the D string to vibrate. I doubt this is a common problem, I couldn’t find anyone complaining about this on the net and I don’t see this being a minor problem. Does anyone have any idea what this could be.
I think I may have a cheap guitar!!
Re: High E notes resinating in other strings after being plucked
Hmm.It could be a couple of things.
1)if the guitar IS cheap, you as you may suspect, the wood is probably too light. This can make the vibrations last too long.
2)the action maybe too low. This can cause unwanted overtones and harmonics cause the fret is acting like a nut.An uneven fret height can do this.
I would take it to a guitar tech for examination.Tell him that you're getting DOUBLE TONES.A good set up and fret grind could help.
Since the problem only occurs when the axe is "perfectly" tuned, odds are its a fret or neck problem.
Good Luck
Re: High E notes resinating in other strings after being plucked
I actually suspected the wood cause it is very light. Looks like I'm just going to have to open up the walet. Thanks
I"m so very tired of this problem!!!
Re: High E notes resinating in other strings after being plucked
it's worth noting that when a string is plucked it will cause any other string to resonate that is on the same frequency, ie the same tuning, but this will only be a slight resonation, it happens with all stringed instruments.
Re: High E notes resinating in other strings after being plucked
Yes but when I want the note to end it doesn't because it's resonating in another string. I wonder if low output pickups will leave them out.
Re: High E notes resinating in other strings after being plucked
with practice you should be able to mute all the other strings with your hand.

stock yamaha pickup wiring
I'm using an old stock yamaha humbucking pickup in another guitar and I'm not sure how to wire it. The pick up has a red, a white, and a ground. I've read that these kind of pickups are supposed to have a hot wire, a ground and a coil tap wire. Does anyone know which wire (the white or red) is the hot and which is the tap?
HELP Good beginner guitar
Hey, I just got started a few months ago with an old Yamaha acoustic, and I want to know what a good beginner's electric guitar would be. I've talked to my geometry teacher, who is an expert (he collects and plays, and he has somewhere around 18), and he said that the cheaper Stratocasters would be his choice (the ones in the $250-$350 range). I've browsed on a few sites, and for the most part, that's the choice guitar. I just wanted to kow if anyone had any advice one way or another. Since I'll probably forget this site, please e-mail. Thanks.

In my opinion this is probrably the best Pro 15 watt amp that money can buy at the moment. I have two that I run in streo, but I'm severely tempted to get another as back up - if it dont break the bank
