The 7 modes are major scales starting on different root notes.The Key of Gmaj;G=Ionian mode,A=Dorian, C#=Phrigian mode,ect.,ect.Certain modes are very useful in special situations.Example,the Dorian can be used over a 7th chord.Or a 2,5 transition.These modes are already in your blues scales.Which ones you'll use depends on the tune's chord structure.
