That crack in the top is almost certainly just in the finish, not in the wood. If so, it's called a surface check and won't cause any harm to the guitar or its sound. If the top itself is cracked, it can almost certainly be fixed without removing the top. Take it to a competent repairman (or two, get a comparison) and have him look at it.
: I have an Ovation Balladeer Electric that is many yuears old. It is in good shape except there appeared spontainiously a crack in the face. I would emagine the top will need to be removed and the crack reapired. Can anyone tell me where I could get this done and if you have any guess at how much it might cost? I'm wondering if a used guitar might be cheaper. Thanks, Tony
