As I understand it, the JV (which stands for Japanese Vintage)were the original 'reissue' guitars made under contract in Japan in 82 and 83 before Fender US starting doing reissues themselves. They apparently used brilliant woods and the electrics are actually US! Fender US didn't like the fact that the JVs were actually better than what they were producing at the time, and the result was the US reissue series, and much crappier/cheaper Squiers from 84 on. The word is they are a damn good guitar and well worth getting your hands on (especially as they are often priced like later carppy Squiers).
