also all the people i know who play metal, use a pedal, a lot of amps cant do the scooped thing very well (boogies and soldanos, vht etc can do it pretty well but at what price ?), also a friend of mine uses his marshall with a graphic before the amp, guitar-graphic-amp, it works very well.
