mate, stick at it, after a while things will come together and you'll start to sound good. As for solo's, if thats what you want to play then persevere and you WILL get there. I myself cant play solo's cos they don't really interst me, i'm purely rhythmn, i've been playing for about 6 months and I couldn't live without it ! thats the key, if you really want to do it. I think an accoustic is a good way to start, the main issue is the action on the guitar (the distance between strings and fretboard) with an accoustic it will be harder, but it will strengthren up your fingers in the long run, also because an electric is smaller generally, playing bar chords and the like will be easier
