I have been an owner of a Dana scoop since 94. I bought it because I loved the design, it plays incredibly and Alvarez is a trustworthy name. Little did I know the $500 I spent nine years ago would be a good investment as well. There are a number of people out there that will pay in excess of $700 for a scoop in good condition. Your best bet in my opinion is to leave the scoop alone and buy yourself another guitar. Fenders took a long time to beccome classics and with the average price of a nine year old scoop still above the original price I would say that you and I both have treasures on our hands! Enjoy your guitar, play it lovingly and hard like it was ment to be played but most importantly, don't change it!
